The town's population actually grew by 20% since the airport opened, only a small neighborhood was abandonned. So it's hardly a 'ghost town'.

This "ghost town" actually has over 30,000 inhabitants, up from 25,000 when the airport opened and less than 7,000 a generation before that. To European standards, this is a boom town - with the exception of the one street and one old mansion Nessy shows us.
It boasts two railway stations, five multisports complexes, NINETEEN schools and the old swimming pool was replaced by a newer and bigger one only 8 years before this was filmed.

The article specifies that the old center of the city has been abandonned by all its inhabitants except a few ones. The move happened because of the airport. The old town center is between 1km and 2km away from the new town. If you look on Google maps it lists both towns, the new one and the old one. It is a "ghost town".

Love the style girl hie! Dreamy, modern - you change for the circumstance. Knew of this town quand je Googlerais French history, etc. All this helps both my curiosity, and knowledge of little details of French history, culture, etc, for when I finally go for it, and take the test for French naturalisation. Gawd elp em with my Ulster/Scots accent, peppered with Ch'ti expressions. Can't wait for the next episode biloute. An urban Dora l'Exploratrice, in a dress! Bon weekend petal. x

can you please tell people that Goussainville isn't abandoned only a small part of the town is and that's the "vieux pays'" area otherwise Goussainville is a booming suburban town where the price of houses is the same as the rest of la banlieue, not to mention that Roissy en France is way closer to the airport and has people living there too.

The govt should turn this neighborhood into a hospital/resource center for the deaf, and if they followed up on the bookshop community idea, maybe adding some antique shops and cafes, as well (all run by the deaf) it would bring in tourist revenue.

Goussainville isn't empty for no reason... Goussainville, having the Main French International airport nearby is a risky zone... the evidence is that two major crashes occurred there, the last one being the Concorde death... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goussainville,_Val-d'Oise ... there probably is no ghosts there, but this town has had tragic events happening...

Oh wow. I lived in a village right beside the Manila international Airport when i was a boy. I have memories of the deafening sound of planes taking off right above the roof like every half hour. The entire house would shake violently. I think we were right under the flight path.
Then we moved to another village but still around the airport. Right across our street, behind the perimeter wall was the tarmac. One morning, all the neighborhood kids were climbing over each other to get over that wall. Some workers had parked this gigantic airplane tire just over the other side .

Haha, I have been here but it was far from being a ghost town. I had a VERY short lay-over in Paris and opted to stay at a hotel close to CDG rather than nap in the terminal. Welcome to the HOTEL MEDIAN ROISSY. Not the best place I've ever lain my head but it would have been a worthy stay had I known about the abandoned part of the town.
