    Interesting tip on using washes to make tufts look more like the surrounding terrain, thank you!

    I would love to see some videos on how to make bases like that. It seems simple but I struggle with my bases quite a bot

      Well I can take care of you there. :) - I have lots of basing videos, here are a few kind of like these battle ready bases -

      I have lots of basing videos in the Hobby Cheating playlist, as I said, I love bases. :)

    Grass in nature doesn’t get mowed so knee hight sounds pretty accurate in a lot of cases. Still good to have options!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, the 6mm can certainly be realistic for very wild grasses, but not all wild grasses grow that tall and as you said, I love having those options.

    Those bases are fantastic! And interesting idea of washing/drybrushing grass

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The washing and drybrushing of the grass is a real game changer on making the grass look like part of the world.

      Vince Venturella can't wait to give it a try. Also, any videos on painting winter uniforms? I'm going to start a valhallan IG army in the next few weeks and looking for some ideas.

    Hmm never thought of using a wash on tufts thanks for that tip

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It makes a huge difference. A little wash shoved in the heart of the tuft and spread around the base of the tuft and it will just look like it's part of the dirt as opposed to a tuft stuck on separately.

    Damn! As someone who despises doing stuff with texture paint these look amazing!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, they can really make for an incredible base if you aren't one who loves making bases from scratch. The quality is really incredible.

    Hmm.. I think I remember their Kickstarter way back when. I'm glad to see that they've come this far. The 2mm is definitely a good change from the average 6mm. Agreed on base snobbery and building; definitely an aspect of the hobby overlooked by too many.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agreed, I have always been a fan of having the 6mm for tall stuff, but I love the 2mm for more common mosses and low grasses.

    I like to pick up these kinds of products at a convention or a store because I will have a much better idea what they look like. Sometimes the pictures online don't translate well to real life. I hope conventions are coming back next year...

    I would totally add some snow to those arid desert bases for a Slaves to Chaos army.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, what's great is that you can take these and still add some more to them, but you are starting so far ahead. :)

      I wish GW would update Slaves to Darkness (warriors). They're a cool army. The knights look amazing.

  • @davea.9927
    @davea.9927 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Omg this is great. The tufts I have currently, I have to cut down a little since they're to tall.
    The premade bases look amazing too. I may kinda feel a little bad though since I didn't create them

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's always my challenge as well, as I love making the bases, but I have to say, I am impressed by the quality for sure.

    Nice, I like that the grass tufts aren't just circles.

    I like GG tufts - love the new alien colours! My three main tufts go-tos are Serious-Play, GamersGrass and Leadbear's Tufts (Australian). Tried many others, mostly disappointing, so I keep coming back to my tried and true favourites. For moss, I favour miniNatur.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, those new alien tufts are amazing. Wonderful for those truly strange or bright landscapes.

  • @PeninsulaPaintingProjects

    These look really nice. I'm sure I've got the yellow flowers not used them yet

  • @Wijkert
    @Wijkert 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you say that Gamers Grass is your favorite manufacture for tufts and related products? I own tufts from Army Painter, but mainly from MiniNatur and the issue I have with some of them is that they are mono-colored and thus look artificial without painting them myself.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I truly love the gamer's grass stuff.

  • @roberthaddon5069

    I too love making bases, but I might get some of these anyway just for the inspiration.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, and keep in mind, you can always add to these as well and make them your own, but I get it, I am a base fanatic as well. :)

    Just saw this! When I saw those colored Tufts, I thought to myself “That would be great for a Tzeentch style base!” Also for perhaps the game Silver Tower, to base those minis In the game, for the game.
    Maybe it’s just me but.... I don’t think any “Gravel base” fits well with the floor tiles that come in Silver Tower. Still, not that big a deal, just mentioning here.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I agree, I hate gravel bases for Silver Tower, I went for stone bases colored like the cardboard tiles.

    • @Tombonzo
      @Tombonzo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vince Venturella - wow that’s awesome! Did you happen to make a video on that, or do you have any pictures of those bases somewhere? I still need to do all of mine.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Tombonzo Sadly I didn't. Good idea for a future video though. Really, it's pretty simple, just lay down some green stuff or miliput, shape some square tiles, paint a blue-ish color and done. :)

    • @Tombonzo
      @Tombonzo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Vince, I will give that a go when I do those bases, with some Tzeentch-ish colors. Maybe a blue Tuft here n there?!

  • @TheAkeris
    @TheAkeris 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Vince, you always say, that you should wash/shade your tufts. Is there any trick to it? If I use Agrax for example, do you dilute it? Because after my tests, the "bristles" are sticking together or they stick to the base and it looks really bad, more like just "wet" ? Is there any solution to this? What did I do wrong?
    Thanks for answering in advance and thanks for your great videos every week!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure, the key is to have a moist brush and really jam it in there. Mixing in a little drop of flow aid can also help.

      @@VinceVenturella Thanks Vince, ill give that try!

  • @mrTirwit

    I know this is quite an old video, but do you have any tips about how to position and glue the models onto the battle ready bases? My problem is that they have so much on them, that I can never get the model in a leveled position.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  ปีที่แล้ว

      So I have a video in the playlist specifically on this very subject, but the short answer is when you're prepping the base, make sure you leave a few flat spaces but worst case, the pin is your friend and worst, worst case, you just add a little paste under the foot to close the gap.

    Hey Vince! Watching the review and can't distinguish what is shown at around 6:40 as "foliage", what is the exact name of the product? Thanks!
