    Freddie Mercury, greatest frontman of any band. Nobody had his flair, energy, voice and flamboyancy. Sadly missed.

    This song was written by John Deacon, the bassist. He and Freddie were very enthusiastic about this song. Now Michael Jackson was a Queen fan & would go to their concerts when Queen was in town. So Queen played this song for MJ and with his head bopping up & down he said “That’s it, that’s the gravy.” MJ encouraged Queen to release as a single said it would be a big hit. #1 in the U.S. and U.K. Here’s a short vid of MJ backstage th-cam.com/video/zL7hGqMFY18/w-d-xo.html

    I’m back - The song is in reference to The Valentines Massacre. “Machine Guns ready to go .. are you ready hey are you ready for this? Out of the doorway the bullets rip to the sound of the beat yeah” SHOOT OUT!! Freddie was not vocally trained just a God-given gift. Tho he played some piano at Boarding School which he attend for over 8 years in India. Freddie was born in Zanzibar as Farrokh Bulsara. His father worked for the British Gov’t on the island of Zanzibar. The boys at school called him Freddie as a nickname. A Revolution forced the Bulsara family to move to London when Freddie was 18 yrs old. When Queen was formed in 1970 Freddie had legally changed his name to Freddie Mercury. In Greek mythology Mercury means “the swift messenger of the Gods”. In Roman mythology Mercury means “God of translators & interpreters”. And the planet Mercury is the fastest planet as it moves around the Sun. So you can see why FREDDIE MERCURY likes the name & was inspired by the song he wrote MY FAIRY KING where the lyrics mention Mother Mercury. Sorry I’m waffling!! 😬

    The bassline is arguably one of the most recognisable bass riffs ever. That’s pretty amazing in itself, as not many people can even pick out the bass in a song let alone remember it or recognise it. What makes it more so is that John Deacon who wrote it also gave us the bass riff for Under Pressure with Queen and David Bowie.
    I can’t think of another band that has produced two more iconic and interesting bass riffs.

    I saw them on this tour, August, 1980 in North Carolina when I was 16. I wish you all could have been there. The tour shirts were a dominatrix straddling the ocean, standing on England and America... she was crackin' that whip and Queen was rockin' that joint. May I recommend Queen doing "Now I'm Here," live at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1979. Freddie owns the crowd; it's awesome and from their early, rockin' days.

  • @marciebulsaraorcutt
    @marciebulsaraorcutt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have a perceptive ear, Honey. Fred did not have ANY formal voice lessons; he did LOVE opera. His favorite singer (in addition to Aretha Franklin) was operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe, with whom he recorded the operatic album Barcelona in 1987... Freddie was the FIRST singer/musician to cross music genre lines from pop/rock to collaborate with someone in the opera music field. (At the time, Luciano Pavarotti said that Freddie & Montsie - that was her nickname - were "dumbing down" opera... Then just a couple/few years later, Pavarotti did his own team-up album w the pop/rock genre.😄) Montsie & Fred became the best of friends; they ADORED each other. After Fred had passed away, Montsie was approached by other singers/musicians to do other genre crossover collaborations... But she turned them all down, because she said it wouldn't be the same/as good an experience as what she had had w Freddie.💕
