    Reability can really be an issue for some Audi engines. So recently I researched a lot about the audi engines and I also made a top 5 of the most RELIABLE AUDI engines.

    My two cents, AVOID the 2.0 TSI/TFSI engines. Are they reliable? Yeah... after you install new timing chains so they don't stretch, with new timing guides, and a new tensioner (especially for pre-2012 EA888 Gen 2 2.0T where the tensioner can give out any second and mechanically total your engine). Oil burning (that can get to 1qt/300 miles) due to small oil control rings that get clogged with carbon require a complete engine removal and rebuild with new pistons, and for pre-2012 Gen 2 you also need to get 23mm rods to accommodate the updated pistons (revision DM pistons) since they come with 21mm rods. Cam lobe wear that leads to a ticking/clacking on cold start. PCVs that fail every 60k miles, waterpumps that leak due to plastic housings, turbo wastegate failure that leads to underboost codes and requires a new turbo, HPFP that leak and cause gasoline to leak into your oil, stuck open fuel injectors which also leak fuel into your oil, intake manifold flap runners that get stuck.
    The list goes on. The Gen 3 are on the more reliable side with updated piston rings, updated timing chains that are more reistant to stretch (they still stretch, not nearly as much and don't require new timing chains + guides every 80k - 120k miles). But for the Gen 1 and Gen 2 EA888 2.0T (up to 2016 at least in the U.S.) don't walk away from them, RUN away unless the engine has had a full rebuild with documents to prove it. I've worked on too many 2.0T engines. They're easy engines to work on which is good because you'll constantly be wrenching on them. I wrenched on my 2.0T a lot, and for friends with the 2.0T I have had to work on many, many times.

    So is the 4.2 in a 2012 A8 (last year of that engine) fairly reliable or does it still have the timing chain or tensioner problems? Thanks a lot!

    I dont know if its a flex but my audi 80 b3 1990 1.8s petrol (naturally aspirated ofc) engine has over 600 000km and still runs so smoothly and it was never rebuilt or anything just regular service maintenance... The biggest issue I had with it was 1.5 years ago when my head gasket leaked. But all in all its still going strong no issues and it starts instantly every time.

      Your wrong. That 3.0tdi CDUC engine will give you a mountain of problems later on. Those chain guides and tensioners are doomed to fail.
      My advice do NOT buy a second 3.0 Tdi CDUC/ CDUD engine 245ps

      The CGQB engine is great. The CDUC and CDUD had problems. They had recalls for the tensioner guides being made of cheap plastic and failing.

    • @mydimeisup5103
      @mydimeisup5103 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      3.0T is pretty reliable. Besides PCV, thermostat, and waterpump its a good engine. The pre-2016 3.0Ts (at least in the U.S., I know the rest of the world got CREC 3.0T earlier) can suffer from cold start timing chain slap, but audi TSB says a long as it doesn't last more than 2 seconds, its fine. You can install updated chain tensioners to solve the chain slap.

    Hello.
    Which of the Q7 engines are reliable and trouble free?

    • @cubgarage
      @cubgarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! So the 3.6 vr6 petrol and the 6.0 v12 tdi engines are the most reliable. But if you will buy an average 3.0 tdi (which is obviously cheaper and the parts are more commoun), it won't be so bad with the maintenance. All the engines have specific problems, but the 3.6 vr6 is the most reliable. I hope that I help you! Aloso ask a mechanic to check the car you want to buy!

      @@ikedichukwuchesa413 It's about the same engine that was put on the Tuareg and on the Audi. The Vr6 its not so common because it has 3,6 l and the taxes are big in Europe. And it burns alot of petrol. But its more reliable. The 3.0 tdi it is more common, the parts are more accessible and it is more economical than the 3.6. But the 3.0 has some specific issuses and generaly speaking its not so reliable as the 3.6 l.
