    He got emotional talking about Port Olisar and i have the same feeling. It just have a special place in our hearts. This whole game started with Port Olisar, i remember when that was the only place to land. Just leave it there, i still today keep flying there cause i want to spawn in the same place i started out in 2015.

      You can't have launch pads in an MMO, they could do launch pad elevators like an automated parking garage, but the number of players and volume of ships needs to reflect the numbers of players

    I love that Todd is still with the project; he's one of my fav directors. He's so no-nonsense and practical about what needs to happen next... it's a critical skill to have in this case. Hoping 3.14 is ok, especially with FPs and 30K's; really don't want another 3.0.0 release that was horrendously over-hyped and bugged to death.

      Most people who argue that CIG is in the wrong for developing further content before fixing issues like server desync, just have no idea how software development, let alone game development works in a company of 600 employees.
      They just view it through the lens of CIG being one entity, and assuming they can just split their efforts, and cutting from one aspect would directly help in making another aspect faster.
      But unlike in small indie studios with simple games, there are dedicated teams. The art team and gameplay teams have almost zero competence when it comes to backend server tech on the scale of Star Citizen. Making those teams "help" with server desync is going to achieve nothing. So they go on and develop the ships and gameplay loops for us, while the server/networking team is working their assess off, since the fruits of their labor is the biggest roadblock for the game actually becoming a functioning game.

      @MISFIT I literally encounter people on Spectrum every single patch who say ‘they need to stop making planets/ships/landing zones and focus on Gameplay Loops®’ (which is funny as most of them have no idea what that even entails and are just parroting what they read on the front page of the subreddit) they’re basically saying ‘all the people in accounting should work on engineering now’

      @MISFIT actually, from my experience they’re very representative of a portion of the community, and one that is ever growing as misinformed or uninformed people join daily, so as much as you’d like to think that it’s pointless and preaching to the choir, I’d bet that CIG has a better grasp on what and who they need to address directly than either of us. They wouldn’t bring it up for no reason, that I’m certain of.

    They did make the shuttle for players to buy. It’s called an Ares. Which is a shuttle built around a size 7 gun.

    When seeing the clouds and their gargantuan, wind-sculpted faces, I am reminded of air and space battles from movies like "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" or "Star Trek II :Wraith of Khan." I am hoping that spaceship dogfights will be able to convey some of that same feeling of cat and mouse chases through the clouds.

    43:20 As far as the color of HUDs, I think it's more impactful when discussing alien ships and the inability to distinguish "red enemy" from "red friendly." Preferences aside, the ability to function should not be impeded by the color of your HUD.

      Maybe landing hud is provided. Seen too many ships with nose pointed straight down in order to see the ground. Even my old Cessna could tell me how far I was above the ground.

    I don’t know how anyone can think that the state of this game is acceptable after millions of dollars and years of development. One star system and barely stable one at that after all that time and money while thy draw wages year after year and sell payed content for up to thousands of dollars is nothing short of fraud

    CIG devs are a cut above the rest, for CR does not comprise. As such they find new ways to make the impossible possible. This is what the gaming industry needs, and not saying there are not awesome game companies out there. It's just that we are getting fewer and less creative games as of late.

    I think it would be fair to say that Orison's massive thrusters would not be powered by an individual reactor but a group of redundant reactors, or perhaps even each thruster module coming with its own self contained reactor. That way, whenever maintenance is needed, or a failure happens, other thrusters are not going to be affected, and as such any of the other thrusters, combined perhaps with some of the lattice structures that connect some of the platforms together would be able to pick up the slack.

    Thank you John and the shuttle artist for not bending to the infantile demands of victims of hyperconsumerism among the playerbase who think everything that is in the verse has to have a player-ownable version.       Not sure thats true, some gas giants probably do. All we know of is Saturn and Jupiter and vicious weather on Jupiter seems to be in particular zones.

    I'm happy with all of these changes to scanning and targeting, I just want there to be proper feedback to the player as to why something may or may not be working. Otherwise it's just going to seem broken or bugged.

    It's good to hear that they are really prioritizing bug fixing and "quality of life" changes that really break the immersion. It's not an overwhelming problem, but its kind of comical when you're bringing a friend in and you have to explain like 30 issues that they just have to learn to ignore to enjoy the game.
    If the radius of Crusader is 7,500km then the surface area is 707 million km^2 compared to earth 510 million km^2.
    If the addition of AI Blades and AI controlled actors as crew can we have capacitor gameplay managed by the computer? Otherwise it would seem that having additional seats would be unnecessary. The Connie for example: 2 in the turrets, pilot, and copilot. If the copilot manages the capacitors and systems while the other 3 fight it would be a staple multicrew AI or not.

    I love the detail of the game. The idea of characters, or even ships, being able to "hide" in ambient "noise" is beautiful. I've been playing Fortnite with my son and I use sneaking and positional sound a lot in my gameplay style. By the time we can afford to have a third Star Citizen capable computer running at the house, he should be a good partner for me for the FPS missions, not just the space missions.

    for those who fear to not be able to manage capacitor and be in disavantage, I assure you it is a really intuitive, easy concept to take in your hands.
    it's something existing in other game and you just do it automaticly, you don't even think about it, it's almost reflex, or muscle memory, like using WASD in an fps game.

    Honestly, I hope the Constellation struts mostly stay as is since they're good for blocking the sun, but it would be lovely to remove or slim down the two that cross the centre of the pilot's view.

    I don't know about you, but if my city solely relied on big thrusters running 24/7 to keep me from the crushing depths I'd want a whole slew of redundancies. Also, I'm not sure how/why the landing zones and parks are open to the local atmosphere. Wouldn't they be constantly buffeted by hurricane-force winds, or is there something I'm missing? I just think that CIG should work on designing domed cities since then they could use them as a jumping-off point from which they could design cities and habs in a wide range of environments. In the case of Orison, if the atmosphere of the dome were lighter than the planets then they could use it as a lifting gas.

    When considering the nature of targeting and tracking in gas and dust clouds was particle ablation on the ship's shield and hull and the additional IR and EM signal this would create considered or planned? Something like above SCM speed in thick enough particles causing ablative damage which scales with speed.

    I would like Tony Z's team to consider the idea of a "contextual story generator" tied to unfolding events, whether simply probabilistic, VRNPC, or fully subsumed NPC simulated "player", in some role or another, even a chronological employment history and background. This logic tree hierarchy of storied language (ave daily conversation is only about 100 words) ultimately would require a powerful AI, with great voiceover tech to make NPC communications, ever more natural and realistic, and really well acted. There's voice tech that could take 100 of these recordings and bifurcate it out to 10's of 1000's of different voices. The other aim is an on-demand publishing system that records the unfolding Lore of the game as it plays out, from different POVs from the players, to the larger UEE historical chronicals or whatehaveyou, to an series of customized onboard computer personalities. All these stacks of "frames" where meaning and context is decisive pile up and in many ways help guide and lead the pace of the game, whether with a ratio of 9 NPC's to player, or less or more, whatever works, but to have another layer of "balancing" that contains the unfolding history and each player's role in it, as an economic consumer and active historical participant, along with a record of accomplishments and various incentivizations to carry out a kind of unfolding narrative that mixes the game logic with the player's own, which ultimately has a limit of some kind in terms of things done, to do, and aims to achieve. Some of the NPC's would then go down in Star Citizen history, as would some of the players, unless they prefer to remain somewhat anonymous, but most would want recognition, and a series of ascending challenges through the dynamic mission giving system, where perhaps more attention is paid to that outcome in the story hierarchy when running missions (they go down in history and could make game history or play a role in it's pivotal moment).
    Great way to record what happens and to capture an infinite series of stories that can be written or parts spoken by an NPC, either to another NPC or to a player, within the unfolding context of the game, at different levels, from the macro to the micro-economic, even social spheres of influence with other players, and NPC's. What an absolute trip that would be.
    And let's face it, you can't have a simulated world run by NPCs that the player cannot meaningfully interact with. They're not all robots in the lore. This would sit on and to a degree drive quantum through markers, tags, etc. as far as what happened, when, where, how, even why.
    And somewhere on Earth at UEE headquarters, there's a "Chronical" or some AI with a 3D holographic representation of the entire archive, where a player can find themselves within it, and examine various contexts in terms of what's happening in the public knowledge sphere - that's really "the game" itself, and the way Chris envisioned it. Not some free for all dog piling griefer scene.
    These layers of activity and unfolding narrative, can't go unnoticed, so even the probabilistic NPC's that go through the VNPC to NPC cycle and back again, don't vanish when you leave the area NEVER TO EXIST AGAIN, but have a story, at least in potentia, that could be called up and accessed, bringing the entity back to life AS IF it had been playing out an ongoing narrative that led it somewhere, even within the apparent unfolding history of what's going on, for everyone. It can be made up of course, so long as it's entirely congruent, the point of distinction vanishes. Whole swaths of unplayed or unmanifest NPCs would still form the background history, even if they were never there and it never really happened.
    Some players should wonder if they're playing the game of if the game isn't leading them at the same time, even while they are entirely free in an open world MMO.
    The activities or actions can't be left up in the air as if they did not happen or play any role in the larger context, and thus having no real impact on the NPC-led simulated universe. That's no good. Somewhere, at the balancing point, from every POV there's a story to be told, but it doesn't really exist unless called upon so the contextual story generating AI doesn't take up unnecessary resources, while calculating the whole game and every part of it, or monitoring the occurrence of all entities, at every level, so that the NPC you hitch a ride with on ArcCorp can engage in a meaningful and helpful conversation with the player that's relevant to what's actually happening including the price of adonite or whatever, or the clash of such and such, from which this cabby fled to start a new life. Story. Life is story. Meaning and context is decisive.
    This has only been done in gaming development in the most rudimentary manner. So it hasn't been done, but it has to happen.

      they said, in ISC earlier, there will be volumetric on all planets with atmo. Just not at 3.14. once tweaked they will expand to all planets in future patches.

      I imagine it will take on some form of damage once you go beyond the crush point. Then explode.
      No fancy crushing sounds or groans like your imagining from Hunting red October.
      It would require a massive amount of work and literally a hundred different audio packets for each type of ship and depth etc.
      It will be the same invisible border in most games.

      @@spacehorn409 I think the issue is one a bit more deep-rooted than something that can be fixed at the end of a patch cycle, though...they've had issues with copilot control since inception, so I don't remain too hopeful for a last-minute patch-in. It's probably rooted in more fundamental systems that will get replaced later, is my guess. Appreciate the optimism, though. =)

    I'm curious with all the realism in the game, will Crusader actually end u crushing your ship if you go to deep into the atmosphere?? How realistic are they going here with a gas giant?

      Not with 3.14 but that is the direction they are going. For example , A terrapin or Carrack with its canopy lowered may be able to survive at depths that would destroy other ships.
