Another really nice Flathead to start the video with. Back when I subscribed to Bass Master magazine ( a trash fish to cat fishermen ). there was a comic section called " Harry and Charlie ", or something to that effect, made me think about " The Adventures of Spencer and Denny ", or Denny and Spencer. The comic relief was great. Thanks for going to all the trouble to make these great videos. I really enjoy them.
I totally agree with you about the Channel Cat/Flathead comparison in "bait grabs". I think when a Flathead takes your bait and you miss the hook set, its because the hook just didn't stick. I really don't think they grab and hold a bait in their jaws. Just my thoughts. Happy Fishing!
It just seems to make the most sense to me. Maybe one of these days I'll rig up an aquaview or something and we will all be able to see. Thnaks for sharing your thoughts!
Spencer it's good to see you and your friend cutting up and stuff like that my brother died about five years ago and we always finish together we did everything together it brought back memories of me and my brother God bless you have a good day and other great video 🎣🎣🎣👍👍👍
Nice catch. That channel Denny caught would have been nice. If he were to land it, lol. Finally got myself a boat and going flathead hunting this weekend. Love the video and can't wait to see more.
Caught my biggest channel cat 2 days ago by watching your videos and using your techniques. Thanks for making great videos man keep it up, catfish fishing is the best!!
@@RiverCertified Yes Sir not a prob.. keep em coming, I am learning from you.the stuff you fish looks very very similar to what we have here in Ohio and it's good to have someone who fishes this stuff and break things down and I am learning more new things that I didn't really realize
Cutting the fins off a bullhead is a play lake thing, it helps a flathead hold on longer when they dont fully eat the bait or setting on it before the run
We cut the spines off all our bullies before we put em in our bait tanks for a few reasons , 1 so when you go to grab them you don't get stuck by them , 2 so they don't stick ea other while I'm the bait tank , 3 so when hooking them you don't accidentally get stabbed by there fin's . But I have noticed that the bullies without fin s it seems like the flathead's take em quicker and not stop there run to turn the bait in there mouth vs ones with fins still on , we use side cuts or wire cutters and clip them as close to the body as possible and leave the soft fins intact . Hope this helps been watching your videos last 2 days man I can't wait to get a Kayak for this spring to learn on n hopefully be having small river adventure's by summer with friends
Love the way you constantly give your fishing partners crap. Exactly the way me and my brothers/friends talk when we fish lol. Just constant criticism and insults, but we always know it's a country boys way of saying " love you bro". Lol
Definitely noted. Not many in these waters, but they are moving up on my list to go after. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch all my videos!
Hitting the south skunk again soon !!!!! Been picking up more channel cats then flatheads but all is fun..keep up the goodwork ready for a live stream again lol
another great video. like the bait stop trick. might have an idea for you to try. I started doing this years back and haven't baited a hook for flats any differently. one day I watched a salt water video where this guy was hooking up his huge baits with rubber bands. well that got me thinking that my girlfriend had a ton of those little clear dime size hair tie rubber bands so I snagged 20 or so and went to the store and bought the biggest needles they had. I used a grinder and took out one side of the eye making myself really cheap baiting hooks. I loop the band on the hook and hook it to my bait needle and either run the needle through the nose, mouth, or behind the fin of my bait depending on the rig and or water current. pull the needle all the way through and loop the band back onto the hook. simple quick and easy to rig up. less damage to the bait, the baits stays on the hook very good and dang near 100% hook exposure. also if the hook looks as if it may foul the hook you can pull on the hook stretch the band twist and hook back through the loops a few times and get the hook positioned right where it is best. been doing this for years and so far I have had wonderful results.
Hey man, really appreciate the suggestion! I used to do that with live mullet when fishing the salt for kings and tarpon. I've never done it with flatheads because it always seemed like "one more thing". After all the live baits I've been losing, I might have to change it up. Thanks for passing on the knowledge man!
had quite an adventure this weekend took my 12 year old conoeing and fishing he ended up catching a shovelhead that was 47.5 inches long according to the in-fisherman guide for catfish it weighs about 54-58lbs. couldnt believe it when it popped up i didnt take a chance in loosen it grabed that dude right up by his bottom jaw he got me but worth every bit of it to see the look on my boys face priceless!

@River Certified +1 Like :) Nice slob-fish! What is your opinion of fishing for big cats using a low-profile baitcasting bass reel? I'm interested in setting up a dual use heavy action rod for punching through vegetation for bass AND live bait fishing for big cats. What's the main issue guys use round levelwind baitcasters for cats? I understand they probably have more torque and obviously hold more line -- any other reasons? I'm probably going to use it more for bass fishing, anyway, but I'd like to give catfishing a shot -- wanted your opinion on why guys don't seem to use the low-profile bass reels for catfishin'...
Sorry for the late reply. Nothing wrong with a low profile reel. I use these cus they work and I've had em for years. Just make sure you have it spooled with 65-80 lb braid. You want a reel that can put out 10-20 lbs of drag. Good luck man!
@@RiverCertified Good advice; pretty much what you told me earlier because you actually answered this question when I posed it to you in chat during a livestream a little while ago XD
Top notch cat fisherman for sure..no doubt!!! Would like some education on spinning reels and line selection. Reason being is I feel I’m not covering enough real estate with my casting not sure if it’s the reel or the line. Huge fan of abu Garcia but something’s off.
River Certified oh I use penn classic red 209 and 309 for that amount of weight when cat fishing and only 10lb on my spinning reels. My request is more for pan fishing mono, Fluorocarbons or braid and the what reel you think is best
Ahhhh.. if money is no object a new shimano stradic spooled with 10 lb nanofil is my choice. Otherwise, I like a penn fierce 2000 size with the same line. Either I like a 6 lb flouro leader
Just a random idea I just had. Do you know if there are any flathead fisheries that u have a chance to hook into a bull shark aswell in that you've fished or know of?
I like the heavy power ones for flatheads and blues. I use both the 7'6" and 9'6" depending on the situation. I landed the fish in the video on the 9'6". Thanks for watching!
I will be fishing steady current in the Missouri River 6-8 mph and some places more. The rods I use most of the time are 6’ 6” heavy action. I like big bait. I’m talking mega baits. I don’t fish for quantity it’s all quality. Just worried a 9’ 6” mh rod will be to light for those baits and that current. Thanks
I hear what you are saying. They are light rods, but more powerful than you would think. A buddy of mine is a guide in St. Louis. Jason with STLcatfishing. He uses the 7'6" mh rods as his side rods for suspend drifting. He uses 16-24 ounce sinkers on them and two hooks each baited with skipjack. I would recommend the 7'6" heavy for what you are doing.
It was either this video or another video you were talking about bait stops for your hooks. You can save some $ if you take hot glue sticks and cut small chunks off them and slip the hook through the pieces.
Been using bullhead for years and the cutting off the fins thing is a joke. We used to be able to fish with bullhead as big as we wanted and I've personally used em up to 2 lbs as bait. Now here in Missouri they limit us to no bigger than 9 inches for bait. Sucks. I've seen 3 lb channel cats in the belly of 20 lb flathead and they are constantly eating spiny channel and bullhead so don't bother cutting off the fins. Just kills the bait or at the least makes them less lively. Another cool vid. Tight lines and keep your powder dry.
My thoughts exactly. Didn't realize Missouri had those bait restrictions. I knew Minnesota did. I'm still gonna make a video of it because I think people would like to see what happens.
Great banter got to love to buds slagging each other for a trip not an inch given on either side 😉 keep up the good work gentsif it was 12 rounds of boxing I would have called it 114/113
I use bells on scotts st. I havent gotten beaten up yet. So far everyone seems chill there. Except for bikers. Some bikers will bike over your stuff rather then using the bike lane.
Me again hell ya more importner hell yes I've always heard cut em off to maybe that's why I hardly don't catch shit on yellow belly I've got very certain live bait I personally use and catch em keep it up your a fishing machine

Def channel cats. Fish some ponds with no flatheads and channels tend to do that quite often
It was either this video or another video you were talking about bait stops for your hooks. You can save some $ if you take hot glue sticks and cut small chunks off them and slip the hook through the pieces.
Thats good info. Ever have em melt jn the tackke box if it gets hot?
No I have not
River Certified yeah I just cut them maybe a an 8th of an inch thick you get about 30 or so out of each glue stick
Nothing better then a big flathead on the other line stay fishing
Can't argue with that logic. Thank you for watching!
Awesome video
Lol bro I like ur videoss keep up tha work brotha
Glad you do! I'll do my best to keep them coming!
How deep do you fish
Ok Denny is my fav guest lol
I tolerate him when I have to haha
What line do you use?
85 lb whiskerseeker braid and 50 lb leader. All my tackle is linked in the video description.
Awesome thank you. I saw that it just shows the brand when you click on the link not the actual lb
What rig would you use for a rockey river? Three way with snap swivel ?
The rigs I use fro heavy cover are in this video. th-cam.com/video/X6Aweber9z0/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for watching Matt!
Great banter got to love to buds slagging each other for a trip not an inch given on either side 😉 keep up the good work gentsif it was 12 rounds of boxing I would have called it 114/113
When you said "a legend", for a minute there I thought you were talking about Denny Halgren...😊
I would love to fish with Denny Halgren. He is a true legend
I use bells on scotts st. I havent gotten beaten up yet. So far everyone seems chill there. Except for bikers. Some bikers will bike over your stuff rather then using the bike lane.
I'm glad you're safe 😁
is it just me but..... Wow bro! You catch a fish like that and no big.!,,
I get lucky😁
Crustless bullheads :)
😂😂😂
Find a way to put a GoPro on your fishing rig
If only I had more money. Thanks for watching!
Scott street is hood
Haha there's some rough characters there man, but the fishing can be good at times. Thanks for watching!
Just take an hour's midday nap. You will be beating your chest afterward.
Mud cat(bull head) chomped that bait
1:50. That looks extremely painful for your private parts lol
