- After visiting the abandoned RARET Maxoqueira Radio Station I discovered that there was still more to explore. I had to go back and explore the smallest and oldest radio receiver station from the time of the Cold War and Radio Free Europe. And this time I found some content inside.
First part: • Abandoned Radio Statio...
In the 1950s, the governments of Portugal and the United States signed an agreement to build a radio station to broadcast anti-Soviet propaganda to the countries of the communist bloc. The Americans thought that Portugal had all the necessary conditions to receive such a project. The chosen place was Herdade da Nossa Senhora da Glória: the land was perfect, since it was flat, had many hectares and was in a very discreet location.
The programs arrived from Munich, Germany, to a listening center in Maxoqueira, in Benavente, which recorded or forwarded them to Glória do Ribatejo. The contents were immediately relayed.
In 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall announced that there was soon a bridge between communist countries and the West. Soon, RARET would become totally useless. In 1995 the Maxoqueira post was deactivated, and a year later the RARET facility officially closed. Two years later, they were completely abandoned.

@@FalcaoAlex sim. Por ainda ter as antenas, etc. Devem ter preferido fazer ali. A raret original já não tem as grandes antenas e está tudo vazio e abandonado. As casa do bairro é que são mesmo na raret.
