This was 100% in 1976. I remember Ralf Hütter announcing Trans Europe Express in 2004 during the Amsterdam concert:"This song we first played live in Amsterdam in 1976."
1976 with "new technology" like synthesizers Minimoogs, ARP Odysseys etc had to be really difficult to pull these live show off TEE is a very complex album to play live and with tape machines... I respect Kraftwerk for playing live
What a beautiful concert. Goose bumps all over. During Kometenmelodie I got goose bumps from the Orchestron intro, it is so warm, and multilayered. Simply awesome.
To me, Komentenmelodie is really pretty. Wouldn't be surprised if they've played it in concert and some folks in the audience have teared up a little. Just goes to show that electronic music can sometimes actually sound rather pretty or beautiful; doesn't always have to be those silly "oontz oontz oontz oontz" sounds and weird screechy synth sounds and other weird stuff like that. As fun as all that is, it can, sometimes, get old after a while. It's nice to hear electronic music that's actually very beautiful.
I listened to almost every live concert that is available on youtube...you MUST hear it ! Every concert is so goddamn unique that you will ultimately fall in love with this great and creative band !!!
I agree to the '76 date...as many bands play their songs before the album release. You also hear that the audiance has no clue about what song is coming.
Yes, they asked some DJ friends who worked in several clubs in Cologne, but that was a bit later in their career. They did this for checking their mixes of "The Man-Machine" and "Computer World". During the 82-86 era, they asked the DJ to play demos and rough versions of some songs from "Electric Cafe". I can't remember where I read this (or if it's true), but some clubbers remembers prototype versions of "Sex Object" and "Telephone Call" being played there, mixed with other songs.
Really enjoying this... funny how they have better vocoder (the mensch machine sound at the beginning is so full) and choir sounds here than they would on the actual later album... love the improvisations on the Arp Odyssey on Kometenmelodie! Just shows you how free they were in those days. Can you imagine what it would have been like in 1976 to have witnessed this?
With this performance I can hear why they were (and are) considered being pioneers and creators of the new. This is not evident when I hear the concerts of the last 10 - 15 years. Peter Kroll, Singapore
Oh, very accurate! That's the beauty of this, that the album wasn't made yet. They had to extend their performances with more material in the early years, when they had a smaller repertoire. Also, they relied on public reception while in process of shaping new songs. Personally, I'd love so much to have a hq recording of this Europe Endless version.
Well, you should check out a very accurate and true to the original cover version of Europe Endless live performance by artist that goes on TH-cam by name Musik Arbeiter. He did a great job! :)
Que placer poder seguir descubriendo conciertos antiguos de Kraftwerk, de cuando recién comenzaban. Gracias youtube y a los amigos que proveen el material. Mención especial a Europe endless, que canción mas hermosa y evocadora de emociones. Gracias Kraftwerk.
Ohm sweet ohm clearly Karl is playing the electric vibraphone that Wolfgang built, also it can be heard on The Hall of Mirrors doing the lead and the "solo". Nice to hear on the low register too.
Jullie waren wel een ongelofelijk lousy publiek zeg.... "oh ja, daar speelt ook nog een bandje op het podium". "Maar we zijn hip en het interesseert ons niet bijster veel"
Karl said in an interview that Radioactivity was not anti-Nuke song when it came out. It had to do with radio music airwaves. 3 of the 4 nuke disasters mentioned at the beginning of the song had not even occurred.
That's right. At first they simply described the technology of nuclear energy and radiostations. They changed their perspective later on, when they became more aware of the disadvantages and risks of atomic energy. They also replaced the name of Hiroshima in the live visuals with Fukoshima in more recent performances.
@@Wuppie62 They knew that it was dangerous. We knew that uranium was deadly when women's jaws were falling off in the 20s. The song is clearly beautiful and weary, it has respect for something so powerful and dangerous. The song was made in 1975. Not 1944. Not everything is a black and white political statement. It's no different than an ode to fire - it's beautiful, magical and extremely deadly.
Would it have killed Ralf and the boys to include a spruced up remaster of this as a bonus disc with the Catalogue box set edition of TEE? I mean, come on, the Joy Division live material released on their box set makes this sound like Minimum Maximum. No-one would have cared about the less-than-stellar sound quality, and I'm sure that could have been enhanced quite a lot with professional gear. Hell, there shoulda been a live concert of each album on ALL the discs. Luton/Tango/Lichtof etc on The Mix and so on.
the audio here is nastily chuffled up with lossy MPEG compression, but if someone was able to go back to the original tape, redigitize it and apply modern cleanup techniques, then yes, I expect it would sound very good. The best starting point would be a concert where there's a line-recording made directly from a mixing desk, rather than from just a microphone in the audience.
The thing here is, Kraftwerk are no ordinary band, and these rough live versions, from their point of view are inferior to the released studio versions, and frankly, I agree. Same way the remasters make the original editions of the albums obsolete - remasters are (arguably) of higher quality, the "purest" forms of their songs. It may seem naive, but I can respect them wishing to distill and keep just the essential.
I haven't had this strong reaction to music for a while... whoaa this is excellent! I mean, chills just washed over me with every new song, especially Goethe/Kometenmelodie and Die Sonne/Ohm sweet ohm. Couldn't sit still during Europe endless, I'd like some exclusive demo release of that version heh. (a bit curious about where you could possibly have found this, did you actually have this on tape or did it take some supreme internet search technique) anyways, thank you for uploading this!
They play Tongebirge during this concert, and I believe they also played Tanzmusik during several concerts in 1976, however they did make those songs purely electronic for those performances.
Trans-Europe Express wasn't released until March 1977, so not sure how accurate the September 11, 1976 date is for this recording given the "Europe Endless" performance.. Great performance regardless.
This was 100% in 1976. I remember Ralf Hütter announcing Trans Europe Express in 2004 during the Amsterdam concert:"This song we first played live in Amsterdam in 1976."
Why Ohm Sweet Ohm is so beautyful? Amazing performance. Love it.

This is so good! At this concert they played Trans Europe Express for the first time live.

Interesting to notice they called themselves "Mensch Maschine" before the actual same titled album was released.
And how “Trans-Europe Express” was performed for the first time but wasn’t released until 1977.
It’s because that’s where they got the name of the album from
@@kraftwerklover69 yes but before 1978 they were more mannequins in suits than robots or machines
Dude, what a fucking bomb. Just out of this world.

Rest in Peace Florian
That has been 44 years ago - fantastic!
Wolfgang's drumming...Ralf's beautiful playing...Florian just being cool...Bartos so mechanical.

Europe Endless, is the music I want for my funeral
So sad that Autobahn is incomplete because the audio of this bootleg is excellent

What a great version of 'Europe Endless' :)
I thought it was a bit shit to be honest
Nothing beats the orignal imo, but it sure was interesting to hear this demo version along with TEE
The drive of the synth.... pushing the song through the joint, I wished they woukd have kept it this way forever!

Wow this is like hearing the demo versions of some of their best songs.. Trans Europe Express and Europe Endless.. priceless recording.. thank you!
Very sweet, very kind, hopeful.
Man the first live version of TEE gives me some goosebumps along with thumbnail for the song section

Ralf and his minimoog actually at that part but you hear him on the e flute in tongebirge
Wonderful concert. Early Kraftwerk is so eerily fascinating...🖤
Hi ! Have your new ! Channel I like this live show ! I will out this in my library so Keep the show's coming your new ! No.1 fan !

What a fascinating rendition of Europe endless.
The first time I ever heard a vocoder was on a Kraftwerk album. Sorcery.
I can't thank you enough for uploading this! What an incredible live performance!
Wow. Just seen them there over 38 years later with The catalogues 3D shows 1 & 2

Excellent concert 😊 !

Many Thanks. I visited KW live session only since 1991. This is great stuff!

I think the date Sep 76 is right. You can hear clearly that the versions of "Europe Endless" an "TEE" are raw versions.
but much better though
COMET Melodie done beautifully all their songs done brilliantly here..why not a live album of this!
Did they have better equipment compared to the 1975 and earlier 1976 gigs?
Mahler is playing before they start!
That was the first year they used an intro vocoder.

Sounds like the T.E.E.was pulled by a class 28 co-bo that night.
Does anyone know the source of organ music used for Faust's Prologue in Heaven at 14:30?
That's what I'm trying to figure out as well
1976: year the pre-autobahn albums were erased from kraftwerk's catalog
