If you plant corn, cut it one month before fully grown, then immediately plant barley, cut it one month before fully grown, plant corn. This rotation will yield you more than grass, on the same field, even with the current full grass yield at two months getting you four cuts a year. No empty field, and barley is worth more as silage than selling it as a crop. The calendar aligns perfectly to do this, and barley gives the most chaff of any crop except Corn. Just FYI.
In real life it's not about yield. It's about the moisture content. You don't just have stages of corn growth in real life, but weather and climate and lots of outside factors determine when you chaff, because even a full bunker is useless if it is poor product.
It's less than 1% so I believe it's within the margin of error. I would make mention of being able to double crop the field with grass when you harvest early and getting a full grass harvest out of it before you replant corn, but honestly at that point just plant grass year round.
Your videos are amazing-thank you for creating them! I’m new to the game, and they’ve been an absolute lifesaver. I do have a suggestion, though. As a newcomer, some terms like 'swathing' and 'silage' are a bit over my head, and a few videos seem to assume prior knowledge. The base game doesn’t really provide a primer on all the machines and their functions, so as someone with no farming background, I’d really appreciate content that fills in those blanks. With your artistic flair, I’m sure it would be both helpful and enjoyable!
Grass is still giving full harvest every 2 months. Since corn does NOT yield double or more what grass does for silage, it's kind of a non player in that arena just now. If they get grass back to three months for full harvest, it would be way more competitive. Grass might still win even at three months if you consider it's so much easier to work with and the gear to max out your efficiency is so much cheaper. I think we are all sick of mowing now, too. Here's to hoping corn becomes an option soon. Thank you for the great content.
I’d say that corn still offers a competitive choice depending on the needs of your farm. My main crop is cotton, with an awful lot of fields devoted. Sowing and harvest is a very busy time for me. Green corn from planting to harvest fits fits neatly into the cotton growing period and gives me something to do during the off-season. I get nearly 2 million liters of silage per year without impacting my Cotton rotation at all. I could run grass and get more silage yearly, but I would be doing constant grass work and might have to put it off during cotton season, negating any yield gains. Now, if you’re running a large dairy and are doing grass work anyway, corn is not a very appealing option. It would be nice to see a bonus to 3rd month grass, as well as green vs mature corn. It would give a little more depth to the choice.
Plant corn, cut one month before fully grown, immediately plant barley. Cut one month before fully grown, immediately plant corn. Cutting in the last growth stage and the "ready to harvest" stage yields the same amount of chaff. Field is never empty and you get more silage than the same field would give even with four grass cuts a year. Barley gives more chaff than any other crop, excluding corn, when chaffed. In fact, it's usually worth more money if turned into silage and sold that way over selling the crop even at peak pricing, just like corn. Just FYI.
Can you please do a tracks vs wide tires, v weights for the best traction? I cant find a TH-cam video on it other than 22 which you did. Also, for some reason when I put tracks on my tractors the AI worker goes bonkers. I removed the tracks and went with wheels and the AI worker went back to normal. Please test that also. Love your vids. Cheers
FC have you noticed that when using distribution in productions. That the further away the building is when distribution it charges you more. I noticed it while using greenhouse and the Canning factory.
He's only playing with seasons off because this is his test save. I've been watching his content for a long time and he's always played with seasons on except his last series on 22 because it was on mars
Corn needs a major rework imo. It should not be one of the lowest profit crops, definitely should not be beaten by beans, also it needs to yield a lot more, for both grain and silage
In game, it definitely should, because it's field corn. Not for human consumption. It's entire purpose is animal feed. Field corn is not worth as much as other corn types. The error the game has made is that it just calls it corn, and not specifically which type it is. In fact, compared to real world pricing it's way higher than it should be in game, As I write this, corn is 4.54 per bushel. It take roughly 35 liters to make a bushel. So, using game metrics, 1000 liters is just over 28 bushels. 28 bushels at 4.54 per is 127.12. So if you sold 1000 liters of corn in real life you'd get 130 bucks rounded. How much do you get in game? Also, you get in real life about 85 bushels of corn per acre, assuming everything goes well (this would be considered a good harvest). Converted to the in game liters, you'd get about 2997 liters of corn per acre. You can look at the fields yourself to see how close it is to real life numbers. The one factor you don't have to worry about in game is weather affecting your yield. As long as you do the proper planting steps you get that max yield. In real life, it doesn't work that way. But assuming you pull a good harvest in real life, it matches up very closely with in game numbers. As a side note, soybeans in real life are double the price of corn, almost always...but never less than 1.75 price per bushel. And you get about half the yield as well. The reason soybeans are higher is due to the lower yields. Real life farmer here, and I can testify that on normal difficulty in game...pricing is pretty close to real life, as far as selling crops goes.
Corn and Soybeans should be use more in production also. Corn to me should be the most versatile crop in the game. Corn oil, flour, silage, cereal (corn flakes), preserves - cream of corn, canned corn, canned mixed veggies carrots, corn, peas and Green beans. Also we should be able to make Soybean Oil as a base game production by now.

Only works for one year then the barley would have to be planted the second year in October.
I think in real life, the green would do more yield than the dried out corn.

Perfect timing 👌 I was literally planning on using corn for chaff when I text logged on! Thank you 🙏

Nice video. That difference feels like a no difference to me. Would be interesting in you did each state a few times to see if there is variance
Do u always play with season off
I think most FS creators/tubers play with seasons off. There are exeption though like Daggerwin for one
