Ed Miliband on fire as he destroys Rishi Sunak over cost of living crisis

  • Ed Miliband gave British voters a taste of what a Mili-prime minister may have looked like in the House of Commons today, as he took Chancellor Rishi Sunak to task over his handling of the cost of living crisis.
With millions experiencing hunger and facing a dire year ahead, the Shadow Secretary of State for Climate Change and Net Zero tore into the Chancellor for being 'so out of touch' that he doesn't realise 10 million families in the UK don't have any savings.

There is something fundamentally wrong when someone can do an important and high skill job like nurse, school teacher, fire fighter, etc and yet be expected to get a second job to make ends meet. We literally have nurses skipping meals and going to food banks. That is not at all right. That is firmly this governments responsibility.

Labours idea of high taxes, huge State sector with nice pensions, Bureacracy on another level and a return to the EU etc is a great idea Right?.I'm working class, born and bought up on a Council estate, not affluent but I will never vote Labour because I want to be free to control my own life and not have a bloated, expensive State machine to tell me how to live my life.

You can say something along the lines "Sorry, I cannot afford it. I'd like to continue with our agreed price". It's far more expensive for them to pay the estate agent fees to re-market the property and lose rent by having it empty for a month or two, than it is to just accept the existing rent. Having said that, there's obviously a chance you'll be asked to leave when your existing contract expires. So it's not a completely risk free move.

That's why our economy here in the UK hasn't really gone anywhere since 2010, because the minimum wage isn't fit for purpose and the tories have been suppressing real wage growth. It's only when the workers have enough spare money to spend, that the economy grows. @@dragonfly6908 it’s not primarily about wealth. It’s how they use their power in government. Sunak is meant to be serving the people of this country and doing his upmost to make this an improved place to live for everyone. It’s an honour, as well as a huge responsibility.
Instead he uses tax payers money and the country’s reserves as a cash cow to serve his and his party’s narrow self-interests. Cutting universal credit during a pandemic and cost of living crisis while you write off £4.3 billion of fraudulently-claimed Covid loans (likely including his wife’s).
The man is a disgrace. Just like his boss, Johnson. They don’t care about securing the future of this country and making it a fairer, happier place - they are in it for the short term and will get all they can out of it before leaving someone else to the wreckage. Just like Cameron and Osborne before them.

It wasn’t a simple decision to make but I chose the young mum probably because her 4 months old baby was so cute and every other landlord had turned her down because she was a dss tenant.
    She’s been a great tenant.
I watched the girl grow up and almost never put the rent up so the girl won’t have to change schools. The girl was very happy and did very well at school.
Last year, the tenant has told me that she’s leaving. It was strange. It turned out that she saved £200 a month from the benefits but mostly because I didn’t raise rent cause I felt sorry for the girl. 12 years and it’s £30K!
She started working full time and still got some benefits and now bought a house on the same road…

I eat pasta and chicken once a day because I can’t afford anything else , I’m on basic universal credit because I lost everything due to covid lockdown restrictions,, I now suffer from depression and anxiety,, I’ve lost nearly two stone in weight ,, thanks to our government I’m 52 and sleeping on a friend’s sofa living on 300 pounds per month, it’s mental and physical abuse from the top down, if I could sue the government I would.. they have destroyed my life along with millions of other innocent and otherwise healthy people’s lives
