    Thanks Mr. Lagwig, very nice video! I would like to see how to time the camshaft in relation to the crankshaft.

    Lew - Curious how the Joe's motor pool rear main seal worked out, it looks like a nice seal but there's a lot of talk about all of the gasket manufacturer's current offerings being too large on the seal surface.
    Brian (Metalshaper) says the only way to get a current neoprene lip seal to work is to have the crank seal surface welded & ground to 2.335". Did you measure the sealing surface OD? & have you seen any Leakage with this seal?
    My seal surface measures 2.310" which is consistent with most measurements I have seen for this crank.

      I have not had one leak yet. I polish the seal surface but not too much. I use a razor to remove any flash on the ends. Also, I always shim the crank shaft end play to get it in spec. No seal will hold if the crank drifts fore and aft.

    Dear Lew, i am starting to repair my 1951 willys CJ3A and i would like, if it is possible that you tell me the repair book you use. You show one but you mention another that if i do not understand in wrong way, the other has some mistakes, and i do not want to use a book that may have mistakes or information that it is not correct at all. Thank you!

    Mr. Lagwig, please don’t think I’m trying to be cute but if just a small film of to much oil can make your tolerances differ wouldn’t the sealant on the rear main seal bearing make it off a lot more?

      It seems that if you only use a thin wipe over the mating faces that 90 % squeezes out and 10% fills the machine voids. I have seen engines where way to much was used or the goo took a set prior to squeezing.

    I see your spec on the main bearing was .0029 t0 .003 but you plastiguage read .0015. Is this a good amount because its close? Isnt that a little tight for spec?

    • @hummernutsfl
      @hummernutsfl  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      .0003 is the end spec.

    • @hummernutsfl
      @hummernutsfl  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So mid way on spec is .0016. We are at .0015.

    So interesting. Im restoring my MB 1942 i did the chassis and all the suspension, rebuild the engine is something else.
    I hope you where close to help me with that.
    The crankshaft is on the machine shop ready to resize im just waiting the rid bearings.
    Its ok if the bearings will be resize like that?:
    3 bearings will be .030
    1 bearing .060
    And mains bearings will be 0.30
    Thank you!

      no worries. it is common to undersize the crank bearings. i usually have my machine shop guy order the bearing kit so the burden of getting it right is on him. One thing, srcub the oil passages in the block and crank super clean. Wipe the bearings and mounting surfaces super clean. one spec of dirt under the shell will show a bump in the shell after just a few minutes of running.
      Good luck on your build!

      One question.
      Around how much its cost to rebuild the L134 ? Im going to start to look around to get it done. I don't have the knowledge to do it by my self i think...

      Last one I did, I paid about 1400 for all the machine work. Guides, bores, a sleeve, deck and head. This included an engine kit which is pistons, rings, and bearings and gasket set. I'm told that is cheap. Others pay upwards of 2k.
