Answer: It's narrow, water shoots through it at a high rate of speed. During outgoing tide, the incoming swells meet the rapid outflow of water and it creates very steep, irregular waves. There is also a sandbar as you come out of the inlet at about 2 o'clock off the nose of your boat as you head into the ocean. Some people get lulled into thinking that that particular calm water is safe, then a swell comes in and breaks on the sandbar. It can be nasty. With a little experience, even small boats can navigate the inlet, but you have to think ahead, control the throttle and most importantly, know when you shouldn't proceed.

Terry Weldon this might be a stupid question, but is the beach portion as dangerous? I’m not understanding if there’s a difference between the actual beach and the inlet?

@@matchathemalamute no the beach is definitely not dangerous, even the inlet isn't really dangerous, people are just dumb

Oh, so it is the same as any other dangerous inlet, except not as bad?

This was a really stupid video - after watching the whole thing I STILL don't know why the Boynton Inlet is so dangerous

splais43 It's dangerous because it's really narrow, so the water flow is very fast, and the bar outside it means as soon as you turn out of the mouth big rollers are right in your face. Anyone that swims in it is a God damn moron.

RikkiTikkiTavi I know that. Boynton Inlet is where I boat. I just thought the video did zero job of saying WHY the inlet is dangerous

I saved two little kid cubans that drifted out off the beach back in the early 80s. They were under water when i paddled up on them. People were whistling to me from the beach and pointing. Next day a kid surfer died after his leash wrapped around a buoy.

I read that this thing was designed in 1927. If you think about it the inlet should be redesigned for safety and shut down during reconstruction. It's little more than a very dangerous funnel...i.e., a man made rip and a liability to anyone who enters it.

This is the worst report on “why” the camera the text the interviewed told us nothing. They should remove this embarrassment of a report.

It's an inlet, their all hazardous to some degree or another. If you lack the skill, or your boats not up to the task, stick to Lake Worth inlet to the north.

its dangerous? oh...I thought Oregon Inlet, Merrimack River, Hells Gate, Haulover.. I thought those were dangerous. Who swims in an inlet? am I missing something?

@country yea..I have only been through it a couple times...I fish out of St Lucie Inlet north of there. Anyone that would swim in there needs their head checked, of course there is plenty of that going around.
