  • Titles read: "AMERICANS MARCH THROUGH LONDON".
    London.
Various shots of American troops - soldiers, sailors and marines - marching through the city of London. This is the first American ceremonial parade of the Second World War. A large crowd watches, cheers and applauds. They pass St Paul's Cathedral. Allied flags are carried.
At the rear of the parade we can see some girls marching along with linked arms - groupies? (Who can blame them - American soldiers are so handsome!).
The parade reaches Guildhall and the troops go inside. Sir John Laurie Lord Mayor of London is at the entrance of Guildhall to welcome the guests, who include Major General Lee and Mr Brendan Bracken. Inside, we see the servicemen sitting at long tables where they had a lunch of soup, cold chicken, jacket potatoes and salad and a beer.
L/S of the Stars and Stripes (American) flag flying over Guildhall.

I am an American with British roots (as millions of us are) and I LOVE his comment “They’re part of the family. Home from home.” Beautifully put. Blood brothers in more ways than one.

@@KhanLikeNo0ther The same applies to you. All American’s are not born, they are made……. And clearly you are as American as I am. That is the beauty of “the melting pot.” Melt in, or leave. Kept your love of your place of birth, but never forget, WE are your family now. Just as much as they are.

American of British Ancestry. I like the statement "They're Family, Home away from Home", very nice and a warm sentiment shared by many Americans!

Imagine British people 200 years ago imagining their little colony one day coming to their aid and marching through their capital. It would've been unthinkable but I'm glad our nations have become good friends since

No wonder GIs were popular among women. Their uniforms are sexy as hell. Even the most plain looking guy would look like Hollywood star in those uniforms.

I imagine seeing U.S. troops in England at that moment made many Brits ecstatic, they knew that with the U.S. on its side England would survive Hitler's madness and over the next months America's industrial might would get up to speed and the allies would have more weapons and materials than they knew what to do with. The Brits though for the first two years of WW2 fought alone and fought fiercely for their island.

My grandfather was an Indiana farm kid who spent the first few years in the army stationed in the United Kingdom. He also met and married my grandmother while stationed in Belfast. He experienced a few blitz attacks while stationed in London.

The flag was originally designed for the Zionist Movement on July 24, 1891 by Jacob Baruch Askowith and his son Charles, and originally was referred to as the 'flag of Judah'.

With the contempt Brits have for Americans, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the crowd jeered at the troops or even threw something.

@@o_o825 no, do visit the UK. People are generally friendly towards Americans. Yes they will have some light hearted banter, but that's just British humour, nothing more. Also I've been around europe and everyone says the same things about Americans obnoxious, loud and dumb but it's all exaggerated lol.

@Yankee76 The Manhattan project was instrumental in winning WW2 and it shaped the world we live in today. After WW1 our countries were largely in the same camps barring a couple of mishaps here and there and by the end of the second world war The United States were easily our closest ally. As the years went by more and more of our colonies wanted Independence and we made sure the handover of power was swift in order to maintain good relations with our former dominions. We were making way for our greatest allies who we knew had our best interests at heart, to take our place in leading world affairs while we could take up more of a supporting role and no longer have to go through the troubles of running a global empire.

@Yankee76 That's true. I've always wondered how the world would look if nuclear weapons were never created. Canada hugely earned their independence after their contribution in the second world war.
