At 15:10 Column 3 shows that the only solve for #3 is in block 7 eliminating the #3 possibility in block 1, row 3. That MUST BE A 4. That now means the #4 in block 2 also points rthe correct location for #6 and #3. This was an easier fix thamn what you suggested. Thanks for your challenges though, it is all good stuff!
4:17 Strategies everyone should know? One has identified a set of cells. If a digit is restricted to a subset of those cells, it's restricted to those cells. That's useful for everything from a triple's cell with only two digits, to applying a Sashimi X-wing as a finned X-wing without knowing anything about "Sashimi" -- or solving a skyscraper without knowing anything about skyscrapers, as a finned X-wing. 10:10 The grid of placed digits was essentially the same as mine, when I found the X-wing in 1s. It allowed me to place a couple of 5s at minimum. 13:00 I had the entire grid centermarked when I found the X-wing. Unfortunately I missed both the skyscraper in 3s and the 234 Y-wing in columns 2 and 3. What I did instead was trying the 3 of a 23 pair in R2C3, and showed that 4 had to be in column 2 in both blocks 1 and 7. So I placed 2 in R2C3. I think this did the same thing as the skyscraper and the Y-wing. 15:30 Unfortunately, I missed that second skyscraper, and didn't find any substitute. I wound up bifurcating on the of the skyscraper cells -- R3C6. 17:20 Once the bifurcation forced the 4 into R3C6, I didn't need any further strategy. It was all unwinding the centermarks. For me, the same thing would have happened with that second skyscraper. Okay I just noticed that I entered 13 instead of 16 in R1C2, when bifurcating with 4 in R3C6. Another well-placed blunder -- in this case, a typo -- led me to finish the puzzle without further strategies. I don't know if I would have needed the final Y-wing.
I have followed three sudoku channels so far; yours is the best, so far. At 80 I have taken up this puzzle type a few months now and I am already skipping the 'easy' ones and tackling the medium and hard ones - thanks to you. If I find a better channel I will let you know ( :) ). Though I do have to rewatch your shows a few times to get the technique down, I read a booklet about the rules and techniques including your own handout. Thank you.
Gotta practice the XY-wings more. Did not see that! Also, I sent a message about a sudoku I was struggling from. Couldn't export it to sudokupad sadly.
Totally different approach to the advanced strategies. At the point you used the 34 skyscraper, XY-chain from the 14's in column 1 forces a 4 in R3C6. (Cleaning up from that hat gets me to the same place where you got with the skyscrapers.) Another XY-chain from the 37's in block 7 eliminates the 7 in R9C7. The pattern that's left is BUG+1.
My strategy is grind and learn. Again, I solved it and then watched your video. I managed to solve this puzzle in 41 minutes. I saw the x-wings on 1s and used them. I saw the skyscraper pattern but forgot how to apply it. I continued to fill out BVCs until I spotted the X-Y Wing. After I solved 2 in Box 9 it went quickly. In the beginning I fleshed out Box 5 and most of rows 3, 4 & 5. My solving looked much like yours through the X-Wing. After that, not so much.
Greetings, Chaotix here. I hope you enjoy the puzzle I set. It does shows the intended way on using various Advanced strategies to use. Maybe someday I can set Classic using way advanced such as Swordfish and bizzarre techniques in order to progress further. May everyone had a Happy New Year, and solve more Sudokus to come.
Great question. I recommend you go through all the digits of the puzzle to get all the easy solves out of the way. After that, I would look at either single candidate strategies or bivalue cells, and that usually depends on how many of either I see. If I see several BVCs, then I would suggest you focus on those. Hope that helps.

10:40 I found almost everything apart from the 124 xywing at the end.... aaaaaaa
😅
Thanks for the solve! 🤗

This took me 40 minutes, that's not bad for a hard Sudoku. This would have taken me hours a few years ago.
I love hearing about your progress, Brad. Keep it up!
Great practice
Thanks for watching.😀

Oh cool that you sent it. I’ll check it out it.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Mike. I think the more you learn, the less you will have to grind.

Thank you for sharing, Chaotix. I’ve enjoyed all the puzzles of yours that I tried. I look forward to seeing what new ideas you come up with next. 😊
Can you do a video on Aligned Pair Exclusion?
I'll look into it, Kody. 😀
I have a lot of difficulty understanding whether the best strategy is to look at position for values or BVC, do you have any tips for this?
