I use the Cooper STT, which is more a Mud or 60 off and 40 on road tire. This makes them more noisy, but they have great grip allround. I have allot of respect for the Cooper STT and ST (AT) tires. Also have respect for the BF Goodrich AT tire.

looks like the budget pajero sport held its own against the more illustrious land cruiser and the range rover

I'm pretty sure that 'Pajero' is badged as a Challenger in Australia. Our Pajero is quite different to that and with a lovely 3.2 DiD motor.
This is what we call the Pajero Sport. It is based on the Triton Pickup. The normal Pajero is very different.
