Neko Case & Kelly Hogan singing together is a beautiful thing
The chills, every time she hits that first chorus...
Frisson!
Man the dude on the slide doesn’t even play it full time and he’s one of the best I’ve seen. Unreal performance all around!
Incredible voice, it's like Patsy Cline mixed with Dolly Parton. So much soul.
There's a bit of Grace Slick in there dont overlook...
I really hear the timbre and influence of Wanda Jackson.
@@unwavery Oh my. Never made the connection before, but you are spot on. 🌻
I compare her to Maria Mckee
She always thanks the audience for appreciating her songs and I swear she always means it, for like 25 years
She played at t Edmonton Folk Festival several years back, I was working the artists music and merch tent right beside the main stage when she was doing her sound check in the early afternoon.
I got to watch a 20 minute mini concert all by myself, and she thanked me for staying to watch. Even while they were working to set levels, she sounded amazing.
Neko Case was in the audience at a book reading in Washington, around 2009 (?)
I HAD to approach her and thank her for her music/ art. She was incredibly humble and kind. Always will be a huge fan of her work. Thank you, Neko!
When I first heard Neko in 2001 -- her stunning "Furnace Room Lullaby" used in the Cate Blanchett film "The Gift" -- I thought that her voice was too good to be true. The next year I got this album, "Blacklisted". This track in particular had me thinking again, no way, there has to be some studio trickery to make that sound. But here it is, live!
Every time!
She sings into a high microphone like Lemmy Kilmister. I fucking love it. I love her. I love him. I love great music...
"A handprint on the driver's side
It looks a lot like engine oil
And tastes like being poor and small
And popsicles in summer"
Given what inspired this song . . . God, those lines pack a wallop.
Yeah, kinda like Bob Dylan: Great music and totally pretentious, cryptic and mostly nonsensical lyrics. I love Neko for her music; the lyrics I ignore.
Totally pretentious and non-sensical... sounds like the defect is more on your end, little buddy. I'm sure you could find a boy band, or maybe some lite pop rock, that wouldn't offend your delicate sensibilities
I read somewhere it was about the Green River Killer
@@ckuehncnwhsyt It’s almost like you have to interpret the words
@@andrewwetmore5729 it is
Love you Neko.....that voice is so FULL
God damn that woman can sing!
Ted Williams could bat pretty good too ;-)
Love your voice, earthy! 🌄
Love your music!
Great song!
Loving the bell of the steel
2:35, love that break.
2:57 this section hits me so hard
This is a song about the Green River serial killer. He was active in the area she grew up in.
“Does your soul cast about like an old paper bag”
Tom on bass kills it
I had no idea this song was about a serial killer. So much better knowing that.
About the oldest trope and truth, violence relentless against women.
I read that like a tear welling in the back of one eye, and then it socked me in the gut. You speak truth. Every day, that's one of the truest truths.
Turn your speaker up to 11. She's already there.
"For those like you, that lost their way murdered on the interstate..." Reminds me of wreckless drivers on Hwy not noticing someone in blind spot!
it's more much dark than that. You should check out the story behind the song :)
I heard it was about Ted Bundy, is that correct?
It's actually about Gary Ridgway
That's interesting, thanks.
Savage go hey love always
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Who are the others on the stage?
Who is the woman doing the low harmonies?
That's Kelly Hogan, also a solo musician in her own right. If you're lucky enough to catch her live with Neko, you'll find her a hilarious and engaging stage presence.
Kelly Hogan, a goddess among mortals.
deep red hair
needs to be in a fallout game
Why camare man went far at end was such bad move
Deep Red Bells
/
Lyrics
He led you to this hiding place
His lightning threats spun silver tongues
The red bells beckon you to ride
A handprint on the driver's side
It looks a lot like engine oil and tastes like being poor and small
And Popsicles in the summer
Deep red bells, deep as I've been done
Deep red bells, deep as I've been done
It always has to come this
Red bells ring this tragic hour
We've lost sight of the overpass
The daylight won't remember that
When speckled fronds raise round your bones
Who took the time to fold your clothes
And sthe Valley of the Shadow
Deep red bells, deep as I've been done
Deep red bells, deep as I've been done
Where does this mean world cast its cold eye
Who's left to suffer long about you
Does your soul cast about like an old paper bag
Past empty lots and early graves
Those like you who lost their way
Murdered on the interstate
While the red bells rang like thunder
Deep red bells, deep as I've been done
Deep red bells, deep as I've been done
