  • For newbies to Baja spearfishing, or fishing, this video will help you understand what’s going on the pacific side, especially the surf line. Here I shoot a large Pacific Permit, a gulf grouper and stone a lot of fish, and we eat em in La Paz.
The speargun keeps changing, that’s because these sequences are from two or three different days. I used the iroko 130 speargun, the Rob Allen 110 and a 90cm Renesub.
The dive lamp is from Orca Torch (www.orcatorch.com). I was asked to review it. This is not the review.
For some reason, maybe because Ines bought me a fish identification book for xmas, I identify everything I see, orally... strange right? This gave me the idea of perhaps making fish identification videos for the region. This place sure needs it. The online resources are not super good, and I did struggle over the last 6 years for find any.
Here are fish id moments, and links! I nearded out real bad lol.

That was so cool, good shots! Can’t stop thinking about that poor surgeonfish 😅

This was awesome. I’m gearing up for a trip to puerto Vallarta soon, so the narration was super helpful to start learning to identify the species down there.

Thanks, fish identification is always an issue when i go somewhere new. I figure i might as well help out. I'll do proper fish identification videos in the future.

Did you know that you weren't going to bend your shaft when stoning the two fish point blank in the rocks? Great storytelling as always, you should do National Geo.

thanks, somehow I cannot seem to bend those south african shafts... This one is a RA but i also have spearmaster shafts that are indestructable lol. That said, sometimes I buy one and it bends real fast. I think it has to do with the temperature curing... if it's done right or not.

@@potvinr I go through too many SS shafts with sharkfins stretched alll the way back. The SA sharkfins I've seen have more relaxed placement, which used to irk me but bending SS shafts with short bands irk me more haha

@@christopherlao8549 You won't see me go to SS anytime soon, especially not the 17-4ph 1970s technology still sold by Riffe jajajaja

Awesome video! Are there any good spots around La Paz where you can spearfish from the shore?

everything is around 60 minute drive from la paz. The town is in the center of every spot but there is nothing close to town.
