what a wild game, after some point every decision you made was something i would have never come up with lol but your focus on pacing to win at the last second worked out here
im the bigjeff345 guy. this was a great game, but i made one crucial mistake when i look back at this game. there was a point where 5 ore was available to take me to 9 and buy 2 devs, but i got greedy and hoped 6 ore would be available so i could double city to win. still a great game though
At 30:47 instead of being fixed on 2 cities you could have discarded 3 wood and 3 wheat and stolen for city then settle and won on that turn. Unless I’m really messing up the math it was win right there.
You are right. He won but he made so many mistakes at the end. From discarding the sheep and wood, to using you to city instead of porting the wheat...
It wasn’t the win. He still would have needed to rob a brick or ore for the win. But I calculated the same. I also thought about the 4 missing roads. That is one brick short as well.
Crazy game! Everyone talking about the suboptimal gameplay but ignoring the absolutely optimal entertainment value 😂 Another great video as always man keep it up 🤙
sunbeatle!! dude i bungled this late game so much, but you're right.... we would have never gotten 5 7 outs with the win in hand without it! appreciate you man, it was great to meet you.
@ made for great content AND you still got the win so it’s Ws all around. Great to meet you too man, next event let’s make sure we face off in the finals 💪
The turn before the one where you had 12 cards and two cities in hand for the win and sevened out, you could have citied. Am I correct in thinking that if you had, you would have won on that next turn, barring sevens from the others? What was your thinking behind not citying? Being a threat was irrelevant at that point, no? Since all knights were gone.
You could have built 2 cities and went to 9 on board before 25 minutes. Even if they rob you your sheer production surely would have allowed you to road settle on the 8 imo.
hey, bluehere! i am so mad i didnt spend 2 more seconds actually seeing how many wheats you could have in the end before fishing for it for the win. i saw you had just spent some for the city and i was sure red had at least 2. My mistake, at least i won the one we played before this one :P Great game and vibes all around tho
So many misplays at the end oh my goodness.... YOP for city at 30:11 and you don't 7 out (hand management!!!!), port wheat for city instead of YOPing at 30:50 and you win next turn regardless of 7 with settle..... man oh man that was a tough end game to watch. Very fortunate to win despite the mistakes here
i'm not going to pretend these things aren't true lol. idk why i was so fixated on 2 cities. city settle like didn't even cross my my and and it was much less complicated to exectue
@hughcatan i don't think people realize how much extra mental energy you're probably using by trying to record a video and make entertaining content and explaining your thought process to some degree while also playing. unless you're really on your game oversights can happen to anyone as it is.
@ @claire-ing oh absolutely i just like to give my thoughts after - love you as a content creator my man i mean absolutely 0 disrespect with that. top 10 in the world don't come easy :)
This actually might be the best reasoning for it. I played this game a few days ago, and I feel like I just didn’t even consider the settle on the 8 wheat as if I forgot about it. I’d like to say I did but can’t say for sure
If you forgo the wheat port you could make a continuous road network. Then it’s really just a race to 15 with orange. It was definitely a possibility you could out produce his roads
i think hugh set this up for content he could have just built 2 cities and go for 9 but he did this for content and made a banger what a wild game HAHAHAHA
you could have basically citied twice to go to 9 with them 3 or 4 devs you bought in the end there. Think that would have been good. Bc. you're also out of settles.
😂 I'm not saying Catan brings out the worst in me, I'm just saying that the phrase "I'm not your bit**!!!" is uttered selectively and happens to coincide with Catan box being opened.
So i like watching the game being played but there are some terms i dont understand so i dont know whats actually going on. I think vp/wp refers to the win point "card". But what is a mano, dev and double/tripple pop? These are clearly terms that means something but what i dont know.
i'm glad you asked! if you have any other questions in any future videos just ask and i'll answer: 1. VP means the development card "victory point" 2. "Mono" refers to the development card "monopoly 3. "Dev" means "development card" 4. "Pop" is a slang term for "development card" 5. "Double/triple Pop" means buying 2 or 3 developments cards on one turn. I hope that helped!
why not port your wheat for the city to go to 9 instead of using the YOP? YOP just makes your next move (settle or city) that much more flexible and easy
Came to comment about the end when discarding why not city settle by discarding wood and wheat but found everyone saying the same hahahah Any ways ggs wp
So entertaining to have such close games like that. The commentary just ties it all in as well. What a great video!
thanks dude! this one was wild! I appreciate you
Absolutely loving the content, never stop. Welcome back Hugh we missed you
thank you! i appreciate the kind words and support
what a wild game, after some point every decision you made was something i would have never come up with lol but your focus on pacing to win at the last second worked out here
lol this is a nice way of saying i made late game mistakes! wild game indeed
im the bigjeff345 guy. this was a great game, but i made one crucial mistake when i look back at this game. there was a point where 5 ore was available to take me to 9 and buy 2 devs, but i got greedy and hoped 6 ore would be available so i could double city to win. still a great game though
i feel like we all made mistakes in this game haha. GG well played man i hope to see you in game again soon!
At 30:47 instead of being fixed on 2 cities you could have discarded 3 wood and 3 wheat and stolen for city then settle and won on that turn. Unless I’m really messing up the math it was win right there.

yeah when i was editing i was like "why am i so fixated on 2 cities when i could city settle". glad you brought that up!
glad to know even top 5 misses wins hahah makes me feel better about all my missed wins
Great game! You were holding the last knight when you last asked red, deck was hotttt
yeah whoops lol. Thank you!
You’ve got a lot of great videos but this was easily one of the most entertaining, all the way to the finish😂 those 7s. You can’t script it better
Thanks man I appreciate that! This one was particularly crazy! Appreciate all the support
These kind of games are the worst to play but the best to watch
Yes and yes lol. I was cracking up editing the ending
The turn before the one where you had 12 cards and two cities in hand for the win and sevened out, you could have citied. Am I correct in thinking that if you had, you would have won on that next turn, barring sevens from the others? What was your thinking behind not citying? 100% he should of citied there was no hiding his win condition and holding could only hurt him. I was going nuts like wtf!!!
i can't speak to whether or not this was smart... but my thought process is if i city then my 8 wheat gets solo'd and that was my most important tile.
Hahaha this game!! Love you but you boggled that win a few times at the end there^ ^ you deserve some luck though gg!
haha thanks brother i appreciate you!
You could have built 2 cities and went to 9 on board before 25 minutes. Even if they rob you your sheer production surely would have allowed you to road settle on the 8 imo.
this is also very true, needless to say not my best late game lol
hey, bluehere! i am so mad i didnt spend 2 more seconds actually seeing how many wheats you could have in the end before fishing for it for the win. i saw you had just spent some for the city and i was sure red had at least 2. My mistake, at least i won the one we played before this one :P Great game and vibes all around tho
Dude awesome but maddening game!! Ggs! I hope we see each other again soon in game. You and I couldn’t catch a break those last 15-20 turns lol
The dice didn’t want to cooperate all game and you had great number coverage
it was quite the game for dice rolls and timing of the 7s lol
no ur not alone. This game brings out the devil inside of me
lol sometimes it just gets you over a line in the sand that other games don't
the best game i watched so far its so intense and funny
So many misplays at the end oh my goodness.... YOP for city at 30:11 and you don't 7 out (hand management!!!!), port wheat for city instead of YOPing at 30:50 and you win next turn regardless of 7 with settle..... man oh man that was a tough end game to watch. i'm not going to pretend these things aren't true lol. idk why i was so fixated on 2 cities. city settle like didn't even cross my my and and it was much less complicated to exectue
fwiw they were gonna 7 out the next round anyway cuz they still would have had 9 cards+ by then, but would have lost less cards
@hughcatan i don't think people realize how much extra mental energy you're probably using by trying to record a video and make entertaining content and explaining your thought process to some degree while also playing. unless you're really on your game oversights can happen to anyone as it is.
@claire-ing so true!! i'm not a great multitasker so a very fluid end game with so much chaos is a recipe for hugh blunders LOL. i appreciate you!
@ @claire-ing oh absolutely i just like to give my thoughts after - love you as a content creator my man i mean absolutely 0 disrespect with that. top 10 in the world don't come easy :)
great game, ty for the content hugh
thank you! i appreciate you
"Please no seven."
*DUDUDUN*
"I hate this effing game."
lol
What a game Hugh! Gg Wp🥳
thanks man!! it was a wild one
I was curious why you didn’t choose to city with the yop the turn before your 7’d out with win in hand. Did you forget you had open settle?
This actually might be the best reasoning for it. I played this game a few days ago, and I feel like I just didn’t even consider the settle on the 8 wheat as if I forgot about it. I’d like to say I did but can’t say for sure
Dude that ending was nuts
ridiculous on so many levels lol
If you forgo the wheat port you could make a continuous road network. Then it’s really just a race to 15 with orange. It was definitely a possibility you could out produce his roads
it's a possibility for sure, i just felt so far behind it would have cost a lot to catch up
@ yea I agree. Too likely blue/red would’ve just crushed had you done that
i think hugh set this up for content he could have just built 2 cities and go for 9 but he did this for content and made a banger what a wild game HAHAHAHA
When is tournament recap???
28:13 If you trade wheat & sheep for 1 wood or brick you have win in hand with road, should've definitely tried
you could have basically citied twice to go to 9 with them 3 or 4 devs you bought in the end there. Think that would have been good. Bc. you're also out of settles.
yup! i like didn't realize i was out of settles, and then forgot i had the settle on the 8 or something i was so honed in on 2 cities!
this guy is goated
27:00 red cant have knight bc you have the last one
this would appear to be the case lol
😂 I'm not saying Catan brings out the worst in me, I'm just saying that the phrase "I'm not your bit**!!!" is uttered selectively and happens to coincide with Catan box being opened.
Zero correlation between the 2 lol
Getting 7'd out that many times at end game is pain
dude so painful but also made for fun content lol
yikers! what a game.
oofers! thank you it was a fun one lol
I curse my opponents every game. The game makes me incredibly angry.
Believe me I get it lol
So i like watching the game being played but there are some terms i dont understand so i dont know whats actually going on.

I hope that helped!
@@hughcatan Thanks a lot man, i know what the knight does but the development cards not so much.
When you were at 8, Instead of 2 cities or city/settle, if you build some roads, you could have taken road with 11 lengths
it's a possibility i just figured orange was all in on road
Either way, you are the pro for a reason and results showed it. Loved the game
Not porting for a road to take you to 0 cards on 8 points kinda surprised me
Yeah I made a lot of late game blunders lol
why not port your wheat for the city to go to 9 instead of using the YOP? YOP just makes your next move (settle or city) that much more flexible and easy

Any ways ggs wp
it's a blunder party welcome welcome!
I thought my 7s luck was bad lol😂
this went from oh shoot, to infuriating, to funny in like 2 minutes between blue and me lol
Should have keptuthe year of plenty
gg Hugh!
Ggs!
This was very painful to watch Hugh lol. So many mistakes... entertaining though lmao
dude, u played so bad. u had to win so much early
you're not wrong lol
