  • In this episode, we battle the ice build-up on our pathway. It was impossible to chip or scrape off because it was over an inch think 😳…so we picked up a cheap PROPANE TORCH & pilfered a propane tank from our camper. Let’s see what “Big Bertha” can do! This contraption is so badass! 😝😝😝
    Is this FLAMETHROWER easy to use? Will this setup even work to melt off our sidewalk?
    Tune in to find out!

      Lol! Yeah…there’s people who don’t understand this is a one-time thing to solve a dangerous ice situation. It needed to be handled quickly before someone fell & got hurt. (A friend of ours fell & broke her ankle at her house & so we were extra panicky about the ice here…😳)

    This works better if it is close to freezing or above outside. I've had issues with refreezing. Am using a smaller version of the propane torch that Bernzomatic makes. I may just be that it is underpowered but it was the only thing available that I could find.

      We got lucky & it dried right up after we did this & had no issues with refreezing.

      How much time do you have before it refreezes? If you can lay down some salt after melting, that would probably resolve the refreezing issue. You might even be able to lay down salt before torching.

      Depends on outside temperature & what time of day you’re doing this. We did it early in the day & it dried right up. We don’t use salt because this was recently poured concrete (& our old sidewalk/steps got completely chewed up & destroyed from using salt in winter…salt’s hard on concrete & our crete guy recommended avoiding it so we use #2 chicken grit for our winter traction.)

    Curious if this would work on the end of the driveway where city plow goes by. I would shovel before but spinal injury

      Good question! It should melt just the same…but depending on how big the pile is, you’ll use quite a bit of propane.

    How long does the tank last?

      Quite a while…we did our pathway several times last winter & that wasn’t even a full tank when we started (& we didn’t end up emptying that tank either). We didn’t really keep track, but this year we will start with a full tank & tally it up just to see how far it goes!

    But won't the layer of water refreeze during the night and be slick again?

      @PopplePeople  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! It’s actually quite dry here in the winter & we did this early in the day so it dried up before dark. We had no issues with it icing back over.

    Now you just need to wait on the water to harden into black ice so that annoying mother-in-law can finally have that slip-n-fall you've always wanted!

      😝 lol! It never did turn to black ice. It actually dried up nicely. (We were worried that black ice might form afterwards but it never did.)
