I literally just got into looking at motorcycles last week. Looked at supersport bikes at first, but being outdoorsy, they two stroke things put me down the rabbit hole of these crazy 500 two stroke dirtbikes…THEYRE SO SICK. Stayed up all night the past couple days researching how a two stroke engine works and the different types of fuel mixtures, etc. I’m now addicted and want my own two stroke…
Bro! You've never rode uh Dirt Bike before and want to get a 500 2smoker????????? Squid, get a bike you can learn on first. You're gunna WEED yourself on such a high level bike. You'll have 100 times more fun on a 125, banging through all the gears and learning how to ride. With so much reciprocating mass on the Big Boy Bikes, you'll NEVER be able to ride that bike to its true potential. 🤦♂️🤘
A 500cc two stroke is a LOT of bike. As Ali said, get an aluminum-frame YZ250 or CR250 if you have experience. If not, a 125 will give you all you want/need for a while. Two-strokes are a different animal. Much more fun and rewarding than a 4-Stroke, IMO. Much easier to work on, as well.
Three letters: EPA. Ever wonder why there's red locktite on the throttle bodies of the TPIs? They don't want us messing with the air fuel ratio. For a 500, i doubt it's possible to meet the liberal no fun requirements.
Dirt Bike, you guys are still the best! A couple quick things... First, the pipe maker, Hygge, is pronounced either "Hoo Guh" or "Hyoo Guh," depending on who you ask. It's a Scandanavian word meaning "A Cozy Quality." Second, while the TPI is cool, BRC offers a conversion kit to make it TBI, which is a bit of an upgrade. I'm a little surprised Charles (MX Revival) didn't upgrade to it.
The Tpi injection location is Quite Scary on this build unless they are Running premix 🤔. I bought a PinIt RLB for my TE300 as these have such a long Warmup time and your basically running on Fuel spray till you Blip the Throttle. Stock Mapping supposedly was a little conservative on oiling too. I guess some guys were adding an ounce of oil per gallon or so for a little insurance.
I'm now 54 but back in the day I owned a couple of CR500. The last being a 2000 model. This bike sounds better off the bottom and the delivery sounds smooth as fuck. I loved my CR 500 but it could be in your face off road at times. Of all the bikes I have owned by far my favorite. I went to a 2005 KTM 525 SX and hated its handling. Sold that and went back to a good old 2010 KX 250. Loved it till I smashed my shoulder and that was the end of riding for me. Life got in the way after that. If you are young and fit live life to the full, NO REGRETS!!
Man, I can never get over how the TBI/TPI bikes sound, they sound like they have a constant knock or something. And I've notices the BRC 500's dont have the same roar as the CR and KX500's
I had a husky 500xc and a cr 500. True desert racers but it wasnt till the advent of the steering stabelizer which made it more rideable and not too twitchy. It saved my life so many times. Don't race a 500 without one
"If you think a 300 is a little bit too much for you..." LOL That statement resonates with all us weenies out there that hold on for dear life while our 65cc bike tries to wheelie! 🤣
The true hero will be the one that gets 2 strikes racing pro again. We should have a 125,250 and maybe a 500 class and the 4 strikes can race but they have to race in the correct cc class and not race down a class. If they loose then to bad but we all know that’s what will happen. With today’s technology and a 2 stroke motor there is just no chance the 4 strokes can win. This battle is with the AMA and manufacturers and possibly others. This is not and EPA issue at all. It can’t be because they still sell and race 2 strokes. The reason they don’t sell the 2 strokes is because they have to race up a class. A 2 stroke 250 has to race the 450 class which is just beyond stupid and not sure who ever got together on this. None of this will happen until the riders as well as fans join together and get organized to change this back. Motocross has incredible history and these people changed it and they are not selling more bikes. The bikes are now out of reach in price for most kids and racers. This sport came from a blue collar background and the best riders are not even out there now. Jett is by far the best yet he’s a skinny little kid where as racers should be very muscular. It also takes a bit more talent to ride the 2 strokes which is a huge part of motocross. Anyway for those that know TH-cam and maybe able to make videos on getting the sport back the we all love maybe you can do something. It’s also about finding out who was behind all this and getting them fired and change the sport back to what we had. This is the only way to sell bikes and fill the seats with fans. The 4 strokes are the same as a zero turn mower engine so these kids all grew up around these and it’s nothing fascinating to hear like the 2 strokes. What happened to the sport is horrible
I don’t know why Honda who dominated easy on the 2 strokes wouldn’t offer the CR125 & CR250. If they came out with those bikes it would change the sport again. There would be at least a year waiting list. Why would they even build a 4 stroke to race motocross because they have less power and so many more moving parts which allows them to break down so much sooner? It’s not to sell parts because most of the average people won’t buy them now due to the troubles with them
Four strokes are definitely faster but that's not the only reason we buy two strokes. One thing is for sure, Honda would sell a LOT of CRs if they made them!
@ You said faster! Remember that the reason they allowed 450’s to race the 250’s is because there was no way the 250 4 strokes could race and win against a 250 2 stroke. Same thing with the 125’s. The 4 stroke 125 could in no way race against a 2 stroke and they don’t even race or promote the 125 anymore. They are way to slow to race
Lots of Questions’. Tpi Injected on a 500 “ are you adding an ounce of Oil to each Gallon of Fuel for a little Scuffing Protection? At idle this beast is running on Basically Fuel Spray. Stock Ecu Mapping? 🤔🙌🏻
TBI not TPI if this is next generation 23+ if. Its a 22 or later, that's a fail. Atmospheric sensors routinely fail and blow engines. 8hrs on a TE250 21 we put 4 sensors on the bike. Sold it asap why it was still worth anything.
Very intriguing 🤔 sucks at todays price points but for a 98 to 06 drop this would have rewrote some things i mean every sport/hobby has to 1st of all keep it interesting 👍 😅 hope the we need retro thoughts keep coming .... cuz the 2 stroke is being squeezed out everywhere but 3rd world....😢
Acts like a great and powerful bike with good handling. I rode the YZ 465's for years and the CR 500 Husky.. This looks like I could handle this even at 76 years of age. That said, real men don't have spoke wraps.....pretty lil' yellow ones..... No offense, Mark. I will ride a 4-stroke but find they are about as exciting as kissing my sister.....two-strokes forever! The sound is glorious!
Cool bike but nothing more than a look at me I gots lots of money bike. Regular 300 would eat it up on those type trails. Still incredible engineering.

Get you an aluminum frame yz250 or honda cr250 you cant go wrong with those all years were good

@@tankeater the fact that you said two smoker shows your a clown
Ignore the comments, just buy it.
I don't see why KTM doesn't offer one of these under at lest one of the three brands, people would buy them like crazy.
Just be glad they're not only still around to provide two strokes to the NA market and also actually putting R&D into two strokes.
I would buy one in advance.
Ya bring back the 500
Because KTM are a politically correct liberal company

I have an 87 Husqvarna WR430 and that thing is awsome on the trails. If you want to do a comparison to an old school big bore Husqvarna two stroke
Nice, I had a WR 360. Decomp head for easy starting.
Market for sure needs 500cc. two strokes today.
I got a 2017 Husqvarna Fe501 street legal with a 1994 cr500 engine. The bike was built by MRE. Its actually for sale too!
Did the frame have to be modified to fit the engine?

This has me thinking of keeping my second YZ250 for a 500 build...

Trail building just got a whole lot easier!
What is the song used in the intro?? Love it!
At 11:56 it sounds like an old CVT transmission. By that I mean that clutch is slipping on that straightway - noticeable. Awesome build, however! 👍👍
Agree.
That's the Rukluse auto clutch. They must have a lighter set of springs which doesn't allow for it to engage right away; it allows it to slip some.
I think if I was to cover my spokes I would want it chrome only. No fluorescent colors.
Impressive. My 300 2t for now is enough.
Braaaap!!❤️
After watching the death of two strokes back in the day, I am glad to see others spreading the religion of Brap!

ahahahah Thank You for this!
I was hoping this was a tbi that would be sick
That thing is pure grunt
Soooo. It's either a KX 500, or a CR 500 motor. The CR doesn't have a power valve, the KX has the KIPS system, which is much better.....
Didn't you guys ride this like over a month ago?

Carbon fiber swingarm doesn't seem like a very good idea for longevity.
