    Very good, it's a dejavu for me. I also worked on a mainframe 30 years ago. Later on the PC I missed the ISPF editor. So I bought the PC version. I still use these today in a DOSBOX under LINUX.
    I have an original version with box and manuals. There are two Books included 1. is a User's Guide and 2. a Command Reference and additional a SPF/PC Quick Reference.
    The manufacturer was CTC (Command Technology Corporation in 1040 Marina Village Parkway, Alameda). This Version always works under OS/2.
    There is a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge on the box and the books. Very nice stuff.
    The interesting thing is, that keys are assigned the same way as on the Mainframe. I mean, that the right Strg- Key is defined as Enter and the Enter Key ist defined as "Next Line". This is confusing for beginners.
    However, my mainframe knowledge is a bit rusty. I have been working as an SAP programmer with the ABAP programming language for 15 years and will soon be retiring.

      I have SPF/PC too and I reviewed it in this channel and I also made it available for download from GitHub repo

    Nostalgia!! I retired in 2002 from an MVS Systems Support group. You've brought back memories. While you only mentioned it briefly, I learned to love REXX. Back at home, I owned SPF/PC. Did a lot of programming in Clipper on the PC.

    I just tried it, and its actually fun, and very ISPF alike. Thanks for the heads up.

    Been using a slightly older version SPF/PC for years! Fun!

    True. I used to program with ispf.

    Nice !!! I have somewhere a diskette which also contains (another) version of SPF/PC. I will search for it and retry ti run it . Thanks also for these souvenirs of the old day.

    Digital Research (CP/M) and Digital Equipment (PDP, VAX) were quite distinct companies.

      Yes that is clear

      While I fully understand why Digital Research dropped "Intergalactic" from their name, I wish they hadn't, it was just so hilariously nerdy 😅

    XEdit on VM and now Kedit on Windows!

    Hey, moshix. Do you have experience with MS COBOL 5 ? I've installed it and tried compiling few simple programs and it threw at me some very strange errors, during both - compile and link stages. P.S. MS COBOL 2.10 is working just fine, but is seems to have very different implementation (interpreter).

    Note on your discussion of PL/I compiler producers at around the 12 minute mark: Digital Equipment Corporation who developed the PDP and VAX computers was not in any way related to Digital Research, Inc., the developer of CP/M.

    • @moshixmainframechannel
      @moshixmainframechannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Da. True. Although Dec had great PLI compilers

    • @mrz80
      @mrz80 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@moshixmainframechannel Digital Research did do a PL/I compiler for CP/M. I remember wanting to get it just so I could say I had it but it was way too pricey for my poor-college-student budget at the time. :) I *do* still have my CP/M FORTRAN compiler, though, thus maintaining my dinosaur credentials :D .

    OK, I have a partial answer here. Turned off the num lock, didn't make any difference.
    Used the Enter key by the number pad and it worked.
    Very odd, as the numbers on the number pad don't work

    • @moshixmainframechannel
      @moshixmainframechannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d not odd. It’s 3270 behavior

    • @michaelthomas6632
      @michaelthomas6632 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@moshixmainframechannel I guess a real 3270 didn't have a number pad at all.
      I have several 3270 emulators like x and tn and the free one you could get for OSX macs, and none of them had that issue. Perhaps because they were preconfigured not to.
      Thanks for the great video. I keep going over it again and again and picking up new things.

    Very strange result after copying all the files over to Dosbox-x.
    The screen looks just like yours on SPFPC.
    It types in the option line, even the backspace works, but when I hit enter nothing happens and the curser goes back to the beginning of the line.
    All the function keys work, like F1, F3, F4.

    • @moshixmainframechannel
      @moshixmainframechannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to reconfigure your enter key in spf to be something like Ctrl or so. As I mention in my video

    • @jaaput
      @jaaput ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The out-of-the-box-default is Ctrl-Enter to perform the Enter-function. Pressing just the Enter-key will do a NewLine.

    Having trouble with the Keyboard when using SPFPC. I have to start dosbox as admin in windows and spfpc does not work when using the menus because it does not pick up the keyboard. It will work by using the dosbox keyboard crtl f1 and selecting key you want, Any clues? Thanks

    • @moshixmainframechannel
      @moshixmainframechannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s strange. Try to change the CPU type emulation in dosbox, or maybe go for a slower CPU speed.

    • @davidthompson5845
      @davidthompson5845 ปีที่แล้ว

      What was funny the PF keys worked OK. I found the problem the Enter key was the right ctl key. It just works in slow speed. Sometime I have to hit the ctl key 2 or 3 times to get it to work. Thanks.

    Some disappointment with the PL/I from WinWorld
    The site gives disc images as well as a folder with all the files that can easily be copied over as well as the manual.
    It is not possible to run the demo program in the manual because of missing programs. This was a 4 disc product and only 3 discs are part of the WinWorld collection. The missing disc is
    DISK #4
    File Contents
    LIB86.CMD LIB-86 software librarian
    LINK86.CMD LINK-86 Linkage editor
    RASM86.CMD RASM-86 Relocating 8086 assembler
    XREF86.CMD XREF-86 cross reference utility
    These are rather important to compile anything. I'll be searching the web for a site that has the image to disc 4.
