The only way to fill in the letters is with lines, so you would have to do more lines closer together, but it will still never color them in totally solid. To do that, you would have to PRINT the letters on a home printer and not have the pens color them in.

Does this only work for text? Seems I can't just drop in a cut line and then fill it in. Only text.

My images are not slicing, is there anything i can do to ensure my images are being sliced.
make sure that you only have two things selected when you try to slice . . . I like to look at my layers panel to verify this

Did you keep the font as a "cut", then used the fill pattern, then changed the font into a 'pen"?
Yes! It needed to be a cut font to be able to slice the fill pattern out of it. Once sliced I changed the fill pattern to be drawn with the pen
