Just bought my first 2009 gs500 and you've been making me feel like a professional mechanic ever since I started watching your videos lol .. ive been doing all the work myself lately and not having to pay anyone lmfao 😅💯👊💪
First, warm up the engine to operating temperature. We remove the wire of the high-voltage coil from one of the cylinders and insert the spark plug so that the coil does not fail... tighten the fuel mixture quality screw. As soon as the engine revolutions begin to decrease, we start to unscrew until we reach the highest revolutions, you can listen or look at the tachometer, we perform this operation on another cylinder... then we synchronize...
Thanks for sharing these maintenance videos, brother! I hope you can find the time to keep them coming, as finding videos on GS500 maintenance isn't easy and I'm more a visual learner. haha.
For sure! I'm glad you find these videos helpful. More videos will be coming for this bike, I've been really busy getting my CBR600 ready for the track but once that is done you can expect more!
I bought this filter, but I'm afraid of losing performance using them, since theoretically hot air would enter the engine due to their distance, what do you think?
I don't think it would make too much of a difference in that way. The carbs should be getting more airflow which would allow you to put in more fuel. IE more power. Just make sure you rejet your carbs!
You're right I did need to increase the jet sizes. Use this for a reference. jet size 20/65/142.5 (Pilot/Mid main/Main). So for that hose it always has positive pressure on it. So I just left it out to vent to atmosphere. I am thinking about drilling a hole in the top of the air filter and running it through that.
is it possible to do this without removing the fuel tank if your fuel lines are long enough? (releasing the tank and pulling it towards the front bars?
Depends on how much fuel is in the tank. If you tip it too far it will leak out the fill hole. My tank was empty so I just set it on the table to the side without disconnecting the fuel line. Tho I describe this differently in the video. Don't forget to rejet your carbs.
@@WidgeTheWiz Thanks for the answer I appreciate this... i had so much trouble with leaking fuel lines that I dint want to disconnect them,,, so if i do it with a low tank it should be possible. Thank you.
Should the air filter not have some oil? I thought you had to spray them with a little air filter oil... Sorry i am new to this and only just got my bike 14 days ago
I cant remember if this one came pre oiled or not but yes you are correct it does need oil. Just remember that with this mod you will need to rejet your carbs
I wanted something aftermarket with increased air flow with higher HP asperations in mind. Right now the bike runs lean but once I tune the carbs I think it will be alright. Also It sounds cool with this air filter!
Yeah it was really nice having that. The guy I bought the bike from already had it installed. It may be a discontinued item. Unfortunately I don't know what the brand is.
Take it from me. I vented mine to the atmosphere, without a catch can, and the atomized, acidic oil that sprays out of the hose under brisk acceleration, will corrode all sorts of things. Buy or make yourself a catch can, and you won't experience this, like I did.

I've noticed that I need to pull the choke out more on cold start but I have not tuned my carbs yet. Once the bike is warm I haven't had any issues with idling. Without tuning the carbs the bike tends to lag at about 7000rpm like it's not getting enough fuel. Plan on getting the carbs tuned soon and I think that will fix that issue.

That's great to hear man! Glad that I could actually help you with these videos. Enjoy your bike and ride safe my dude.
send him a tip :)
Could u put a video, how to tune carbs after replacing filter?

Excellent video. Making it easy for the new guys getting into the hobby.

Creo que con el cambio de a filtro de aire directo, se debe realizar la calibración de aire combustible en los carburadores...
wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Rejetting this will help
What size jets do you install in your carbs to make it run properly?
I was wondering the same thing.
wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Upgrades.Rejetting check out this list
Really nice video, thanks man!
wow que nota, me gusta ese sonido. voy a cambiarle el filtro a mi GS500 modelo 2016. me gusto!! gracias por hacer el video. SFanaticos de las GS!!
Cool thanks! Make sure you change your carb jets as well to get it to run properly.
Hola qué tal...lo cambiaste? Te va bien?
Where dose the hose from the top of the rocker cover go now that the air box has been deleted?
yep! you did not show what you did???????
nice vids. keep em coming. Where did you get that black metal bracket for mounting a rear trunk. link?
The Bracket on the back came with the bike when I bought it. The previous owner added it. I will look for it online and post it here if I find it.

I want to make a video on this detailing more of what happened but I've been really busy with my track bike. I will come back to this

Siento no escribir en inglés. I dont speak english...only a little😅. Good job.

Hey can you help me I need to kn otw how to reconnect my hoses where does hose from top of carb go
Let the extra hose hang out. Dont forget to rejet your carbs.

@@WidgeTheWiz Yes, thank you ;)
Any particular reason for installing this new filter, vs just changing the oem one?
I wanted something aftermarket with increased air flow with higher HP asperations in mind. Right now the bike runs lean but once I tune the carbs I think it will be alright. Also It sounds cool with this air filter!
Where did you get your rear rack I’ve been thinking about getting one for my 2005 gs500f
Yeah it was really nice having that. The guy I bought the bike from already had it installed. It may be a discontinued item. Unfortunately I don't know what the brand is.
What did you do for the pcv system?
I let it vent to atmosphere. You could drill and add an attachment for the hose back into the filter. But it wasn't needed
Take it from me. I vented mine to the atmosphere, without a catch can, and the atomized, acidic oil that sprays out of the hose under brisk acceleration, will corrode all sorts of things. Buy or make yourself a catch can, and you won't experience this, like I did.
how'd you reroute the pcv hose??? interested for my bike and wanna do everything right
Just let it run over the top or under the air filter and let it vent to atmosphere
Remember that you will need to rejet your carbs too
Who’s the guy in the black shirt? 😍
do you need to rejet the carbs for this?
Yes you do need to rejet for this to work properly.

Does it run well in low revs?
I'm thinking on doing this to mine, but some guys are saying that it ia not a good idea for a number of reasons

yeah man im in same boat, totally want to do it. but so many ppl saying its not a good idea because of the pressure or whatever
@@mattduncan5500 hey Matt, I'm in the same situation as you were.. did you change it? 😄
приятель а куда ты подсоединил шланк который идет от короба воздушного фильтра
Don't connect it anywhere. The hose has positive pressure so just let it vent to atmosphere.
Куда дел сапун? Какой номер этого фильтра?
This is a RU-2970
For the breather I am not sure. I let all hoses vent to atmosphere.
@@WidgeTheWiz спасибо за ответ.
Thanks for watching me make my bike sound and run like crap😂
Hi friend, can u give filter ref?
K&N RU - 2970. Hope this helps
Cero inglés pero muy explicativo el vídeo excelente
Gracias amigo!
what is the filter model?
K&N RU - 2970
Guess what? You ruined your air fuel ratio. Sounds terrible.
Guess you missed the part where I call out the carbs will need to be tuned/rejet. After the rejet the bike ran great!
i wouldnt have bothered just go oem way simpler
