      indeed,, they can be "hot as f*" then later "wtf" lmao 😂😂 if you see the meme about them being hot and sexy and then goofy making weird faces...
      they can have dramas that can make you cry and they have comedy that can make you laugh out loud... they can dance hiphop at then ballet in black swan... they can be sweet in some of their songs and then they can be hard and even have the courage to diss their own fandom... the duality BTS has draws a lot of people because they are genuinely showing who they truely are..

    Bts always speak on these uncomfortable topics, recently JIN spoke about music chart corruption in Korea during his speech after receiving an award. It’s a very sensitive topic in Korea and the person who talked about it previously got sued so it was a very big thing for Jin to talk about it in such a public platform. Many people were impressed by that and started speaking up against it as well. This is how they use the power and influence they have for a positive change.

      Loretta Castaneda I think its not just comments on an app by kpop fans, it’s the media. Koreans themselves who always have some sh*t to say if someone stands out. Then journalists and the media always juice this hate and constantly hurt the artist more. Have you seen how they always are waiting for an artist to f*ck up?
      Example: JTBC even breaking into BigHit private office in order to find something about them to expose, which showed how useless JTBC were bc they couldn’t even take a pic of the whole trophy room. Then rightfully being called out but refusing to apologize.
      I think that’s why Naver has decided to not allow malicious comments anymore. Anywho this was my take based on past tragedies and how not only it was perpetuated by kpop fans & netizens, but by the media and journalists as well.

    “how do you guys feel about that duality?”
    Well, if BTS were to only serve us with rosy, love-y, cup-half-full sort of lyrics, they’d be fake. like RM has previously said, there is no light without darkness. in order to self-empower you need all the facts- the right motive to mobilize and make an impact. This is one reason why I am a fan- BTS don’t orchestrate an image of perfection like some other kpop artists. therein lies their appeal to me. they point out the dirty, the injustice and the double standard. BTS’ roots are founded on principles to stand for something real and true. I wouldn’t like them so much if they didn’t have hard-hitting lyrics like this.

    Ah, the duality question. Here is my answer:
    I don't see it as a duality. I think it's all the same.
    Whether the lyrics are soft and poetic, or savage and clever, BTS are all about verbal intelligence as a tool for art and communication of messages.
    Whatever BTS music I listen to, I am linguistically satisfied, and the different styles of music/variation in messages just makes sure that I'm never bored. They are the full buffet themselves.

  • @tinylumberjack1353
    @tinylumberjack1353 4 ปีที่แล้ว +258

    I feel like the duality is human. I'm no different, and I'd argue this goes for most people as well. If you're with me? I'm with you and I will do anything to uplift you and make you happy and feel loved. If you're against me, especially if you're coming at me with some bullshit? You can go right ahead and fuck off. I don't have time for people who only want to bring me down. Also... RM is an amazing leader, but he is not the only one that is involved with the creative aspects of BTS (such as writing, producing, themes, etc.) The other members aren't just going along with RM's vision without opinion, input, or impact.

    • @tototaros
      @tototaros 4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      thank you for speaking up about the other member arent just going along with namjoon. i'm seeing patterns with a lot of these reactors especially after they watched those "get to know bts" video that portrays certain member a certain way that whenever a song is deep, political etc then it must come from namjoon and namjoon only. like come on, the others have their own minds too, they have their own opinions too. yoongi literally wrote 518-062 before bts even existed, hobi wrote this "If you want to see me then gather at 7, Everyone dial it, 062 - 518" in his Ma City verse, seokjin! dude is the softest even when he's speaking about the harshest truth like the music chart corruption during AN AWARD SPEECH! because whatever's happening in this world, in the industry or in their government affects all 7 of them as well and not just namjoon.

    • @tinylumberjack1353
      @tinylumberjack1353 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      @@tototaros Exactly. And they've all submitted proposed melodies for their songs, Jin even reminding everyone that Jimin created the melody for Blood Sweat & Tears. I think that the fact that RM is involved in the writing process of most of their songs, even if he's just him helping another member with a solo track, leads some to believe that the other members don't contribute or that they didn't potentially come up with the original idea or premise... Like with Promise and 4 o'clock.... and don't even get me started on those introduction videos that make 3 or 4 members look like intelligent, talented, and dedicated musicians and the rest into some shallow stereotype of 1 or 2 personality traits that often don't even apply anymore. Sadly, I think that many people equate english fluency with intelligence, as well as the fact that he speaks the most in english interviews.

    Their duality and versatility is precisely what I love about Bts
    They can write and perform beautiful songs that can hit you in the heart and bring tears to your eyes, but they are very capable in writing lyrics making beats that make you want to rob your own house lol
    Their delivery is simply just 👌🏼
    As someone who is Korean, I have to admit that sometimes their lyrics make you do a bit of a double take, it will pass over your head and hit you later. Or simple make you go “did he really just-“ That’s when I truly realized the power of Bts, they have about 200 songs (not including repackages and jp. versions) and I’ve listened to pretty much all of them. So it’s literally impossible to judge them after hearing even a hundred of their songs. Bts doesn’t fit into a category, they are simply artists who’ve created an amazing collection of music that anyone can enjoy. I feel like BTS’s ability to be so versatile without losing their signature style and feel to their songs is what makes them so amazing.
    Anyways that is for this video, love the content as usual 💜

    The reason I feel in love with BTS back in HYYH era is they were making a lot of hopeful songs for people who struggle with loneliness and mental health. But while their songs had hopeful ending messages a lot of them talked about how painful and dark loniless can make you. And about their own struggles with monotony and feeling like the bad times would never change. Their songs about hard things or reproaching society, even sometimes reproaching the fans they so adore!, are what makes their messages of hope and now self love ring true. I can take their songs about self love seriously because they written about what it feels like to hate yourself.
    On Wings album they have this fan song “2!3!” One of the first OFFICIAL fan songs they designated as a straight up letter to the fans. An alternate title for it is “Wishing for Better Days” The first few lines of it are some of my favorite BTS lyrics. I’m going to paraphrase, but they go something like “Evrything’s going to be okay’ I can’t tell you that. ‘Your future is bright and will be perfect’ I can’t tell you that”
    It’s all about how they can’t promise empty cliches and platitudes and pretend they are going to be true for us. But they go on to song about at least they will be there even if there are tough times ahead and they just wish for us all to have more good days than we are having right now.
    For someone like me who has battled with depression for the last 14 years of my life and knows it will be something I struggle with for all of my life that is honestly the best blessing someone could give. I think the same goes for anyone dealing with any chronic pain or illness or even addiction! Or hell, just life. No ones life is going to be all flowers and puppies just because they listen to BTS. But they give us someone authentic, who tries to understand, who preaches hope, but preaches with the understanding there is no cure. They promise nothing except to be a positive influence as they can be as mere humans.
    I think if everyone understood that there is no way the positivity they emit can ever literally change the world, but still decide to go 110% to give off positively like BTS, ironically that’s where we’ll see real change. Because that intelligence to realize how bad things are, and then that refusal to accept it!? That’s called heart. And it’s heart that inspires people. And it’s only by inspired COMMUNITIES, NUMBERS of people that the world can change.
    I think BTS has started to figure this out. And just think! If all BTS fans analyze their lyrics and come to a similar point. BTS can raise a generation of young people who know the secret to changing the world.
    Sorry, not sorry this turned into a seminar. But you asked! And writing this out helped to clarify some ideas I’ve had bouncing around my head for a long time. Hopefully you can see why BTS has such passionate fans. To us, BTS is beyond a mere band or celebrity. They are life changers and world changers...and maybe most importantly, WORLD VIEW changers. They have entirely changed the way I view and experience the world.

    Everyone has that duality. Even the kindest person in the world feels anger; if they don't, they are just supressing it. How you react and release that anger is what makes a difference. Plus, sometimes you just have to ask yourself if something is really that important for you to invest so much anergy into and if yes, why.
    I love their rougher songs because they make me release anger and tension but I make sure I listen to some calm songs like Setendipity or Epiphany afterwards.
    I love that they don't feel the need to be super polite and turn a blind eye to injustices that they experience or see other people experience.

  • @luramey

    the thing with bts is, when they’re being “rough” as you said, is it’s never without a thought. it’s not just mindless criticism. they usually use such strong lyrics to address equally tough topics, and it’s makes talking about such things all the more important, because it will make you pay attention and think about it. which is probably what these songs are intended for. like social commentaries or topics people dont wanna talk about. it’s tough but with a purpose.

    For me personally (tho I think most all ARMYs would agree) it is EXACTLY that duality that makes them so interesting and worthy of admiration and following. I LOVE that they can be soft-spoken but come for your neck HARD. It is more impactful and noteworthy this way and rapline excels when it comes to this. I am such a devoted fan to BTS' rapline and have no bias because all three of them are so outstanding in what they do. They're SOLID and IMHO untouchable.

It sort of goes back to this album's ongoing theme which is dealing with the different parts of yourself and coming to the conclusion that all these different parts make up one whole person, you.

They are soft and loving to people they interact with, yet they are more than happy to put people in their place. whether its a journalist, a hater, a poltician, someone who feels entitled. Their duality is everything thing imo, and I think has made them better artists & attracted a lot of fans over time. As for running ppl the wrong way: a lot of ARMY might not remember, but in the early days of putting out all their secondary content like Bangatan Bombs, Run, free solo work, etc (something not a lot of kpop groups did, then), BTS got a lot of hate for being "vulgar". They were just sharing times & thoughts of being a group of normal guys, but of course that didn't fit the picture-perfect image stans had come to expect from idols. In the end though, I think it was one more small piece of the puzzle that helped them get to the top.👌🏾

    so funny thing about the duality of BTS.. it's not just in their lyrics. You look at the members. The rapline is made up of a dork (RM), lil meow meow (Suga) and sunshine (Hobi) who sing the crazy rough hardcore stuff while the vocal line that sings the beautiful melodies is made up of 2 karate belts (Jimin and Maknae), of whom, Jimin's scary mochi face is known to kill. a stare down king (V) and the anger rapper (Seokjinnie). they are the craziest contrast in the business. and that's what makes them so amazing. they hit every colour on the spectrum and make a full meal for us fans.

    The only reason I wouldn't call it duality is because, as artists, they have a whole *spectrum* of talent they draw from. duality, versatility, ingenuity, ability, talent, education, greatness, capacity, kindness, humility, respect, empathy, tolerance, wisdom, tenacity, honesty, courage, tolerance, efficiency, peace, love, uniqueness, perfection. These words and more should have BTS as a definition in the dictionary, because that is what they mean. they don't need to pretend to be someone else or keep their thoughts to themselves because they are loyal to themselves and their philanthropy of life and that is what I love most about them, they teach you, not only to love yourself, or to know yourself, but they also teach you that your actions have repercussions on others, that each action has its consequence and you must respect others, just as you want them to respect you. you should not pay haters back in kind all the damage and hate you receive, you have the power to transmute all the negative energy into positive in order to change the world to a better place with love and kindness
    this is that I think about BTS´ duality

  • @smolbean9247

    I think that their extreme duality comes from them being seven and not just one person. They all bring different aspects into their music, especially their lyrics.
    Their solo songs from "WINGS" were all different even if most of them sounded rather sad or even depressing (which doesn't make them bad songs!) they all were in their own style.
    And actually (in my point of view) everyone has this ability of duality. Some more then others but it's existent.
    I also think that when tou write a song, your overall situation, experiences, thoughts and mood contribute to the lyrics and the sound of it. If you're angry about something you're probably not gonna write a love song that's isn't passive agressive or something like that.

  • @tildatiger
    @tildatiger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Hey, DT? Here's some hope!
    Several of my ARMY friends have told me that they used to be angry at every little thing, be unempathetic with other people and write mean comments about others.
    But that has changed since they became ARMY, because being ARMY makes them happier, makes them connected to nice people, makes them take in the messages of BTS in their everyday life!
    So yeah, hateful anger might not be going anywhere, but individual haters can still be converted!
