This win (even group in the Purdue win last week) surely cannot convince any Notre Dame fan with luke warm intelligence, that Riley and Marcus belong in South Bend. The QB is brutal and cannot throw check downs, and the coach has a 10 minute compilation of unbelieveably dumb comments and "in over his head" clips on the sideline. The entire first half this team looked lost and uncoached - a theme thru the 3 years of HCMF. Notre Dame has no business (even moreso in the NIL era) being tested by a MAC team. Louisville and USC will win quite easily.

There were some good things from Riley today with the mid range pass. The main problem is he is very inconsistent, which I attribute to a lack of confidence. The other problem is that he is a senior, and as a senior who was brought in to be the guy, he should not be a work in progress.
Riley is an above average runner who is physically capable of making the throws, but who doesn’t appear to have the mental component to even take ND to the playoffs. We went through this last year with Hartman. If the team is going to bring in a transfer portal quarterback, for one season, the simple fact is that quarterback needs to get it done. if he is not going to get it done, we are better off going with Steve, who will at least then have more experience going into next season.
And what he did against Notre Dame last year was complete 44% of his passes.

The point with Leonard is that as a fan, you have to take a longer view and be willing to have the team take its lumps when they start a freshman or sophomore QB. You do not expect take to lumps for a “work in a progress” or a “developing” QB who is a senior transfer being paid seven figures.
What are they developing Leonard for? The tv booth? A future OC role? Surely not for the NFL.
So the offense is working. But can they remain one dimensional? Can Louisville or GT take away the run (USC cannot based on what I have seen)? If so, ND might be staring 9-3 in the face. Maybe they can eke out 10-2?

I sincerely don't think there are recruits out their worrying that a true freshman like Carr hasn't yet beaten out a proven commodity like Leonard. I mean ... c'mon. These kids are savvy. They understand that ND has brought in exceptional recruits at QB the last two seasons. And if Deuce sticks, that'll be three in a row. And kids are keenly aware of Denbrock's success with QBs, especially with Daniels just last year. I think you give recruits too little credit.
Leonard is what he is. He's a fantastic athlete playing QB. He missed a lot of time last season, and missed spring at ND. The rust is showing If he gets back to how well he played as a Soph at Duke, when he was healthy for a whole season, there is no issue. The kid was a beast, with his legs and with his arm. I just really don't think any WR considering ND is going to say ... "hey, that Leonard guy is not a good passer, and even though he won't be at ND when I get there that is scaring me off." Most of the deep balls were late and under thrown = PI calls. Better teams turnaround and pick or knock down. RL is a 22 year old Captain making $2million with 100% backing from MF and he has a ‘confidence’ problem. Still, the problems are deeper - can’t get off a field goal anymore. Special teams atrocious!

Disagree with your premise Singer. The expectations for Leonard were a top 10 NFL draft pick post sophomore year. Look at his sophomore QB, and tell me he can't throw the ball. He throws better down field than short to intermediate. However, the expectations for him were sky high. But know your playing the "what did you think you were getting" argument. He has the potential to run and pass. He's lost his confidence, and he needs coach Denbrock to build him back up, and the O line needs to protect him. Tim doesn't have the foresight to see RL throwing for 300 vs Louisville. Denbrock needs to spend the whole week watching tape, and rebuilding the qb's confidence regardless of CMF game plan.

QB C- makes good decisions with his feet horrible at reading coverage. 1 pass TD in 4 games this ND not Navy.
RB B- great flashes hear and there. Would possibly be one of the best RB rooms in the country if our OL wasn't so inexperienced.
TE C+ Evans still not the player he was prior to injury. Other Tes barley have contributed.
WR. D but not sure if it's their fault. Angeli made some really good throws in very little action we have seen from him.
OL F really just because of the inexperience and also losing 3 starters this season.
DT C- not much threat in stopping the run.
DE C nothing barley have gotten any pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Very slow off the snap.
ILB B- tough physical players Bowen and kizer both are physical however maybe lack in speed in pass coverage.
OSLB B have made some plays and sneed looks like he has potential to be a house hold name.
CB A Morrison will be a first round pick. Not many special plays but barley has gotten beat by wrs.
S A great at anchoring our D barely give up big plays.
K A Jeter solid kicker hasn't missed much or not any. outside of the line letting 3 get blocked.
    P B+ still improving.
Freeman C- not quite in the hot seat but soon will be there if our offense can't be more balanced. I believe we need to start a different QB and it sucks our oline is so poor this season.
