You were the guys I first thought of donating to with Amazon Smile, cause you guys are my favorite Animal Rescue Group. You guys rock! Keep up the great work, and I pray every animal you rescue lives long and happy lives.
KontagiousKitten to be truthful, they do get into peoples walls and attics, they do spread diseases like rats and mice and other rodents. People spend a lot of money eradicating them from their properties. They aren’t that nice. But I agree they did a nice thing by saving this one. Cuz it’s a live critter.
You're 100% right about that!! 3 days ago a friend of mine came across a dead opossum in the road, and thankfully she thought to check for babies. There was live babies in her pouch. I rescue and foster animals, so she called me to see if I knew of anyone that could help. I didn't, because I Foster mostly neonatal kittens that need to be bottle fed. So I starting calling around. I called our local wildlife organization. She was going to charge $75 fee to come get the babies just to euthanize them, because she said they are not "native" to Oregon. That's where we live. I was like... YA RIGHT!! I would have tried to care for them myself, before I let that happen. Finally, I found a opossum rehabilitation fb group that gave me a link at all wildlife rehabilitation places in the entire USA. With all their phone numbers. The one in our area came immediately, and got them. They will care for them, and then release them when they are old enough to survive on their own ❤️. We were so relieved. The lady that was going to just euthanize them, seemed so emotionless. If you work with animals and you're like that, it's definitely time to find another job. When you care for animals you have to have a heart for it. She was talking about euthanizing them, no differently than talking about anything else. Maybe she's immune to it, and has been doing it a long time. But EVERY life... no matter how small, should be taken seriously in my opinion. Sorry, that was such a long comment lol.
@@carriebecker1097 I love what you do and your story. To me, the life of a healthy animal matters. It certainly matters a lot to them. Lots of species aren't native but like humans - and because of humans - they got around. In spite of humans they survive. We are so precious about our stuff and wildlife chewing it up. These critters are just trying to survive. Let's live and let live, and give a helping hand when we can.

Oh babies. Thank you so much. I don't usually cry but for wild animals it must be so scary, even when you're trying to help. I had to take in several injured animals to the local wildlife rehab lately and it's so hard when you can't give them the kind of comfort you can give to an animal that loves humans.
Possums are such beautiful, important and misunderstood creatures. Although they hiss, growl and show a lot of teeth, they almost never bite. Great rescues!
I was able to rescue a baby opossum when I was in high school and I dropper fed him til he could eat other food.He was placed at a nature center..I really enjoyed the experience
And get someone to build an inexpensive ramp, covered with carpet or AstroTurf, that is left in there all the time, to allow animals to climb in and out on their own. Them they won't have to call rescuers again.
That would have been logical to put a board as a ramp and the opossum would have just climbed out eventually instead of swimming in the mosquito pool trying to figure a way out for 5 days.
