    My god! I was so overwhelmed by resolve when I first opened it. closed it down so many times because I am so used to premiere. But this 12 minutes just made me think, "Resolve isnt some kind of monster i can't tame!"
    Thank you so much Denver! Please more videos!

      Denver does a good job here, but this vid also makes me appreciate Premiere and being proficient at it. I've not found a convincing case to use resolve over Pr yet but keep my mind open.

      My workflow is 99% in Premiere Pro but I found that tracking tool pretty amazing. Have I not found that trick in PP?

    • @makers_lab
      @makers_lab 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tracking tool is generally excellent in Resolve. AE's rotoscoping tool is great, but just like the tracking in PP, it's terribly slow . As I wrote in the comment before yours, I really appreciate PP and still do, but since then I now *have* found convincing reasons to switch to Resolve. If you want to throw in a couple of gradients that are tracked through a 20 second shot you can get the whole grade complete in under a minute, whereas in PP it could take much longer and be way more tricky to do. Resolve 12.5 is seriously buggy though, finding 2 or 3 fatal crashes in the first weekend of using it, with more since and a variety of other bugs and audio issues. Rendering out in Resolve is fast and makes full use of my 1070 GPU, but the render options are woeful compared to AME, and even with a control surface, working in Resolve could be faster with more thought behind the UI and use of meta keys. However, even with all the negatives to Resolve, for serious colour work, it's way ahead of PP and definitely worth a look. There are some excellent tutorials from the likes of Casey Faris and Aram K, but the best for finding out a lot of the features are from Daria at Goats Eye View. If you're familiar with post production software such as PP, you can get up to speed with Resolve in 24 hours with the GEV videos.

      I really love MC and I even teach it. BUT - it is impossible to ignore the rapid pace of development of Resolve and what you get for free. They literally set the bar for everyone else. If you are planning to release anything that is weaker than the free Resolve, you are toast. I am playing around with v. 14 now and it works really well on my laptop! They are catching up and passing everyone else step by step.

    Your grading is definitely a matter of taste, but the tutorial is great, many thanks! The way you can change the lady's hair color was just jaw dropping to me ... do you know how much mathematical procedures are behind this? unbelievable!

    YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU'VE JUST DONE FOR ME?!?!? I was so intimidated by color grading altogether as a student filmmaker. Watching your tutorial, just gave me so much hope. I have actually fallen in love with color grading as soon as I pressed play on your tutorial. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your wisdom and doing so in the simplest of form for people like me who need to be taught like I'm a 4-year old. I am truly a fan of yours now from here on out, Denver. YOU ARE THE MAN!! THIS TUTORIAL IS EPIC!!! 5-stars!

    I've always kind of avoided REALLY getting to know how to use Resolve despite having had the program for quite a while. I've also owned your LUTs as an excuse to not really HAVE to know how to do it on my own.. but finally I decided to watch this and take notes along the way. It was SO incredibly helpful and I just can't thank you enough. You're really helping me to be a better filmmaker from start to finish.

    I've been using Premiere Pro for ten years, so I'm not new to editing, but this is my first stab at DaVinci. You've blown by so many basics that I can't track where you're going, what icons you're selecting, how you're pulling up stuff. I can see this will be a valuable tutorial, but for now I'll have to find a basic DaVinci vid to learn navigation. I'll be back some day. :-)

    Oh thank god for you. This is far and away the best video editing tutorial I have ever seen. You explained everything in plain english, dimmed and pushed aside unimportant stuff, and didn't just explain the workflow, but the reasons for the workflow. And you never used a bunch of smartypants jargon to make yourself sound smart, you just explain the work because it's work and it's important. You are a good teacher.
