This was an excellent tutorial and how I usually tackle similar scenes on location. I also find that if I close one eye when looking at the scene, that it takes away my depth perception and makes it easier to use this method.

I'm in northern Germany: we're at -5 to 7° Celsius currently, with the occasional winter storm making it feel more chill. I've tried sketching yesterday for the 1st time since discovering urban sketching and it was way too cold. 🥶 I had to take photos instead

Wearing warm winter clothing it was mostly okay, but my hands were freezing after 2.5 hours 🥶 I'm very ready for double digits and sunnier weather! I could use a few of your tips that helped me with perspective 👍🏻 My group was pretty astonished when I revealed that I was a beginner at urban sketching and drawing architecture.
Thanks Cherice. Actually, it was a really cheap $6 one I bought in a department store just before I videoed as I hadn’t had one left at home. It was 120 gsm though, I remember and a smoother surface than I usually draw on. 😀
So Stephen do you ever use an easel I have been told time and time again to avoid drawing flat but it doesn't seem to affect your drawings. Great to see you drawing outside. I joined a plein air group. T o force myself to get out and sketch .

A photo is already 2D, so that’s an advantage, but it can have lens distortion affecting vertical lines near the edges and also loses depth perception. Drawing from reality has no copyright hassles. It’s really whatever you want to draw from. Check out my videos on creating a depth effect. 😀
Well, Stephen, I tried this one by myself . I mean drawing it against the photo without watching your drawing guide. The reason I did this way is to find out the difference between teacher and a student when they draw this picture. After I finish and compared mine drawing with yours , I could not help laughing . Before I draw this one , I followed your guide to draw another photo , the result is much better . So I need to practice a lot and also to learn from you step by step before I can draw independently. Thanks!

The group is a great idea. I would never paint flat, but I do draw flat. Really, with the videoing, I have no choice, but I think I would anyway. 😀
