I have a doubt for the 1st question I had a diffrent approach to the question by first finding for the angle of the sector and then doing the area formula and yes i do get the same answer
but will my marks get cut for using a diffrent method
and the same applies for the second question in which i did equal without finding area and canceled out the (pie) and then rearranged and still got the same answer but in a diffrent format

It's not quite a cylinder - think of it as a big cone with the top part of the cone taken off :-)

At 4:58, can we use the formula Area of sector= (r/2) times length of sector? My teacher told me this, it is a very easy formula, but is it allowed to be used in IGCSE?
Yes, that is another formula that could be used. However, it is derived when working in radians, and at IGCSE level, knowledge of this formula is not required.

Hi, In CIE IGCSE Cambridge, are we given the formulas for mensuration questions? I know we're not given the simple ones such as the area of a circle etc, but are we given ones such as the volume of a cone? Thanks.
Formulae like the volume of a cone are given next to the question 😊👍
im in 0607, but this still helpsa lot, since i nevber thought about such questions and these answers, tho 0607 is easier than 0580

You don't have to switch the numbers; you'll get the same answer both ways 🙂👍

At IGCSE level, non-exact answers are required to be rounded to 3 significant figures and therefore it is rounded to 2370, since 2371 would have 4 significant figures.

the easiest and simplest for any students to do is find the angle which will be 30 degrees and then work it out ..... I love to do maths stepwise

@@GingerMathematician i think there is one thing that is rarely addressed - how to cancel off errors and how to handle the lack of space for working after that. I would also like to ask if she will lose marks if the questions are solved using methods that are not in the syllabus? For example, she was solving a function question yesterday and used log, but the walkthrough answers on TH-cam did not use log. I checked her textbook and there is no log either. Thank you :)

My understanding is that logs are not on 0580 but they are on 0607 - as long as a valid method is shown to solve, your daughter will get all the marks available 🙂👍

this might be a stupid question but please tell me if this is correct, for 0850, the papers that are core contain core stuff only and papers that are extend only contain extended only or do extended contain core and extended?
or is paper 1 extended only and paper 4 extended and core?

FOR THE FIRST QUESTION THAT YOU DID, MY METHOD OF WORKING THE ANSWER OUT WAS DIFFERENT THAN YOURS AND THE MARKING SCHEME - WILL I LOSE MARKS? AFTER ALL, I DID GET 16/3 AS THE ANSWER.

At 4:57 in question 1, I wouldn't have ever thought of dividing both equations. It's kinda a skill with practice that makes u think like GM i guess. But my question is, whats the relation to division, why do we divide ( i know to cancel like terms, but is that the only reason?).
Dividing straight away cancels a lot of pi terms out in one go - you can also do it in a step-by-step manner but then there are more room for mistakes to happen 👍
