In 2022, I received a note from a band director that said I wrote “Too Much Percussion.” While it was not quite phrased this way, as those who follow my shenanigans on social media will already know, that was the “gist” of it. Close enough for government work, as they say.
Instead of being angry, I took it as a badge of honor for a very simple reason:
“I are a percussionist.” 😛
We are the ones who are always asked to sit out.
We are the ones who are always told, “Just listen.”
So to my drumming siblings across the world, this one’s for YOU!
TOO MUCH PERCUSSION! is a work for young bands that includes Percussion parts for all players, including the winds and percussion. It is a groovy 60’s style rock number that will delight your audiences and engage your players in the back of the room.
Performance Notes:
-The percussion instruments for the wind players can be anything. ANYTHING! As long as they can hit it without earning legal repercussions, it will work. If you find yourself short a few instruments, body percussion will work.
-The style of the piece is Rock. Please do not play it “politely.” That would make me weep.
-The percussion 1 part may be played by one person on drumset if needed.
-No percussionists should sit out. If you happen to have more than ten percussionists, double up. If you find a few wandering on the street, invite them in. The more, the merrier!
-Please make use of the educational materials that can be found on the product page for this work on our website. - เพลง
randy standy does it again
Too much percussion, though
My school's highschool band played this and I fell in love, I'm not exactly a band kid but I loved this song
You know it’s good when the percussion part takes up half of the directors sheet
The percussion are going to love this

Screw anyone who says you write too much percussion! Your music has made band super fun for me as a percussionist since I first played one of your pieces 3 years ago. I don't know what my future will be in percussion; I'm graduating high school in a month and attending a college without a band program, but I will always admire your music and your commitment to composing fun, heartfelt, and authentic pieces for everyone. And, of course, your commitment to writing the best percussion parts!
Thanks for all that you do!
My cousin just played this at her concert. They were so good! A masterpiece that you have created good sir!
by any chance, was it the region 28 ms all valley concert?

hi nick
wait wrong person sorry
My band and I have been calling you Randy Standy since playing your arrangement of Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing last concert. Our band director wants to meet you for coffee.
Maybe we can make that happen sometime!
I need this piece. Badly. I had 11 in my advanced band and will have at least 10 next year. Almost half of that ensemble was percussion, and nearly a third next year. My real problem- I don’t have enough of the instruments. We will have to improvise. On the list this piece goes…
Bro we met him today at all region. Great person and very nice. We played all of his song and it just shows how much he cooked.
Are u talking about the all region concert in Harlingen?

i'm praying that we play this sometime this year. our band already has more than enough percussionists (about 2/5 of the band is percussion) and it seems perfect for us even if it is, albeit, on the easier side for most of us
it's hard to find pieces with enough percussion parts, and those that do often include a lot of instruments we don't have at our small school
Frfr I play tenor sax 🎷
@@TheBiggie180I play alto 🎷
well now were doing it
Bro our band has a randy standy cult going on. Anyways my band director is like obsessed with this man and his music and geeked out when she met him.
My old middle school am now in high school is playing this. This year. And dude how much i wish our conductor would of gave us this. I wannna play this one so bad. I wish there was an advanced for grade 3 or something for advanced high school wgere we could get this vibe of a pieace imma be there at there concert when they play it

For ETSBOA in East Tennessee we played this and I had the cowbell and vibraslap part and it was the most fun piece I’ve ever played in my life!
One of my favorite pieces by you, Randall Standy!
Had a concert last week and we played this. Fun as hell! We all got hand drums and shakers
Thank you Randy Standy, very cool.

You said there were flutes playing percussion on the stage during the not-alone rehearsal, but I didn't think everyone would be playing a percussion part. 😂

I can probably see why this piece is called too much percussion because the percussionists want to show off their skills to the fact that they are too loud. Is that just me or what? 😆
The person who made this made it because percussionists are never properly credited
was gonna play this then my dumbass got iss
