Zabbix Appliance - Good For Production Use?

- Is the Zabbix appliance ready for use in production environments? This question comes around very often and with the same frequency, answers are sometimes surprising :) So let me give you my take on what do I think about this question.

I mean this is one of the best parts about Zabbix
You can deploy the appliance and see how you like it
Oh, you're having scaling issues? No problem, just break out the front end, server and DB and you're sorted
The only thing that matters is the data - so make sure your DB has daily backups!
My interpretation of "serious production use" is that you're now using multiple proxies and your DB is getting large
That's pretty much it - it's having your main DB on a better service, ideally an HA setup if you're getting big and critical enough or using a managed DB offering by $Cloud provider

Can you create "how monitor MODBUS devices using Zabbix "?
Because with the appliance you don't need to think about what OS to choose, how to prepare MySQL, web server...etc. Appliance is just an easy way for people who don't install Zabbix every week. I have my hypervisor and it's just easier to download ISO and install it, because with packages I would do the same process of OS installation + packages installation. I did both ways and I prefer the appliance way. I am not saying it's the best way...
It's the same with docker images :) just pick one
Appliances are not only for people who don't install Zabbix every week but also for people who don't handle Linux every week - or at all - either. I downloaded the appliance as a qcow2 image and could log in to Zabbix GUI after less than 10 minutes. And I'm pretty sure one could inflate an Alma Linux partition to an enlarged vdisk if needed.
Thank for the video !... As for me (zcs), I was very happy finding appliance for installing on my own PC (fedora 39, boxes vm), just launch, and voila, the most recent version!
Much quicker than playing with fedora packages (version on it is 6.0, not the latest)
I was attending Zabbix meeting in San Francisco about 2 weeks ago and asked this question. Official answer was it's not recommended for enterprise and big Zabbix deployments, mostly because of the disk size when you use VHD or OVA templates. Also because limited flexibility, it's all in one box... But with ISO we don't have the drive size issue and I got confirmation it's absolutely ok to use in small deployments and there are no security or features disadvantages in an appliance version of Zabbix. So it's not the best practice but at the same time it's ok for small deployments.
And if you want to expand, you can always remove database from appliance server and install a new one on server of your preference.

hmm...i seriously never explored this option and i should've. I always just installed by adding the repo and building my DB.
damn. this is actually easier. haha
