great job, man! Best I've heard besides the Reverend himself. I mean it! Thanks for doing this. I woke up this morning with this song in my head. Hearing you perform it is a great way to end the day!
You call this a Mt. Everest of a tune, but it is more like Mt. Olympus! Marvelous playing, and I love the fingerings. You ought to zoom in on your left pinky at the end, and have it take a bow. Watching that pinky work, it almost looked like you had two ring fingers on your left hand....Along with LauraMyCountryBlues's "Oh Glory How Happy I Am," this is the best (or at least my favorite) Rev Gary cover I've found yet on TH-cam. Great singing too....
Thanks! I'm glad you like it and I agree that Laura's a great player and singer. Funny observation about my pinky... I always feel like it's kinda inert, recalcitrant and useless!
it's a challenging tune to sing, I think. to play, too, but... oh the whole thing is just its own mt. everest! i'm pretty much a t+i guy for everything except sometimes on the banjo, maybe the tiple too. the angle makes it look like i'm flatpicking, i suppose. no tabs that I know of... learned this through years and years of listening and just kinda thinking about it. never really played it the whole way through before recording this! thanks for listening!
Fantastic playing and performance Frankie, been working on this one for a while, use some different voicings to you and I must admit yours sounds closer than mine but thats all part of the fun of learning. Brilliant !!
I've always loved this RGD song... there do not seem to be many covers of it. thank you for your posting! I'm curious, are you using a flatpick? thumb + index? Do you know of any TABS for this? Thanks for sharing
You can make a decent fist of it with D, D7, G, G7, Bm, E7, A7 - but Rev. Davis uses pretty specific chord grips. If you're just looking to strum along, try using those chords and see if you can work it out.
mine too! this song ALWAYS made me happy to get to the end of Harlem Street Singer.
The guy on the shelf doesn't blink once thru the whole performance. Excellent
THAT guy is impossible to impress, needless to say.

thanks.

@gadaya - thanks. he does have the most peculiar way of playing in the key of D.
tried to leave a reply to you, but YT kept complaining at me.
