    THIS is probably going to be THE best overlanding video youre ever going to find on You Tube (but too short!).
    Each clip moulds with the last....merging into a series of related scenes....the colour saturation is top notch....
    Infact whoever made it could probably get well paid for travel advertising videos.

We are going to work in between travelling to save up for this. And we need, besides the cost of the car, a bit of an idea of how much it will cost and how long it will take to travel around. We do have experience with some of the countries mentioned in tje video, but not all. Thanks a lot!

      It took us about 6 months Ivo Peric. We met some motorbikers who did it in about 6 weeks, and some others in a Landrover who were planning on taking a year or so. I guess the longer the better, so long as you can afford to be away from work! Maybe speak to +Ulrich Münstermann (one of the other commenters) - I think he's currently doing a similar trip to what you're planning. :)

    Cheers from Egypt! I'm planning on doing the same trip within the next couple of years with my defender as well! I wanted to ask how it is going through the borders with your car, whether you went on safari with your own car and a few questions about the cost of the trip overall.

    • @bromleyg
      @bromleyg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The border vary - some you're quick through, some take time. Depending what nationality you are and where your vehicle is registered may also add time or make it quicker (locals seemed to go through without any issues). We did go on safaris in our own car, which was way cheaper than with a tour operator. You can generally only really stick to roads, but there's still loads to see. Also by going to smaller parks there were so few other people there which was cool.

    Amazing video dude! Looks like it was an amazing trip - what year is the Landy you used? Did you have many problems with it along the way with the tough terrain?

    • @bromleyg
      @bromleyg  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question Mark Ganly! I'm afraid I don't know what year it was. The only issues we had were with the struts, which turned out to be not long enough to handle the raising that the Landy had had. However having made our way through four struts, a friendly local welded some extensions to an old pair of Landcruiser struts and we didn't have a problem again. The other issue was when the battery and fuse compartments under the driver and passenger seats flooded with water (turns out they aren't sealed) and we lost all power. Another friendly local did some rewiring and hot-wired the car into action again, and by the time he came to take another look the following day, whatever the problem was (water somewhere) had gone and we were on our way.

    • @bestoca
      @bestoca 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      idrthrbskiing, Mark Ganly The S reg Landy will be around 1998-1999.
      Great vid by the way! Makes me want to get on with renovating my 4x4 so I can do a trip. With the issues you had with the Landy, did they add to the experience or were they stressful times? Having not done a trip outside of Europe one of the main concerns I have is with having a breakdown in the middle of nowhere and not having the right spare part or equipment to get the vehicle back on the road. Was this a concern or was it a case of where there's a will...? My 'dream' list of tools and spares to take along might necessitate a trailer! Right I'm off to have a look at what other treats you've uploaded!

      Sorry I never saw this reply +bestoca. Good point with the year based on the number plate. If it's not too late, to answer your questions - they definitely added to the experience, even if they were a little stressful. Of course, there's only so many spare parts you can take, but a Sat Phone, and mobile phone with local sim cards will be a life saver if there's a major issue. Also being sensible about where you go - breaking down in a dangerous area wouldn't be cool, but most of the time it's ok. The friendly local I mentioned in my reply to Mark, who did the rewiring, happened to be the driver of a pick up full of locals who an hour or so earlier we had pulled out of some deep mud that they were stuck in. Help comes from random places!

    Firstly i have to support my pre-commentators: Amazing video, just reminds me of my trip to Sénégal :) Im doing some Roadtrip in the next time, too, from Capetown to Kakamega, Nairobi probably..
    Do you think i can do this in 3-4 weeks? I would love to stay longer but my friends dont have that much time left..
    Greetings from Germany

      Hi +WorldOfCha0s, I definitely think you could do it in 3-4 weeks, although of course the longer the better if you had the time. We met a Brazilian family in Aswan who were driving around the world and made it from Wadi Halfa to Cape Town in 4 weeks!

    I came across this because I've been wanting to do the same thing. Now I'm 100% going to do it! Awesome video. Did you have any problems on the trip? Things that turned out to be harder than you thought, something stupid like washing your clothes maybe? :D

    • @bromleyg
      @bromleyg  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We didn't really have many problems, but I guess because of the amount of research before hand. Overlanding websites have all the info you could ever need. We didn't really have many clothes, and washing them was pretty easy. A cool tip is to have a plastic drum that you can close effectively. Add in your clothes, washing powder and water (maybe some stones too) and strap it to the roof rack for when you drive. That way you have your own washing machine.

    6 Minutes would have been better (or maybe 12?) Visited some places myselfe. Great Video! When did you go? Where did you cross over into Sudan? How did you get the cars into Egypt? Freight vessel? No more ferries right?
    Regards!

      One day I'll make a longer video greetinx11! Alex left London September '13, and I met up with him in Egypt in October. He shipped the car into Egypt with Ro-Ro from Iskenderun to Damietta, and we crossed into Sudan on the boat from Aswan to Wadi Halfa.

    • @bromleyg
      @bromleyg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have three weeks and you can go anywhere in Africa, the top three places I'd recommend are northern Ethiopia - Simian Mountains and the Afar Depression with a trip to Erte Ale. Or Botswana, the Makgadikgadi, Okavango, and Kalahari. Or Namibia, along the Skeleton Coast. Wherever you go, it will be an awesome experience!

    • @maximanger7928
      @maximanger7928 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks ;) did u rent your jeep there ? is it expensive to go there alone ? what would you suggest to go by bus or by rental jeep ? what is that vulcano in your video ?

    • @bromleyg
      @bromleyg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The volcano is Erte Ale in Ethiopia. That's an awesome trip. We negotiated our way onto a trip that was going there - it wouldn't be the best place to go to alone as you pick up armed policemen and soldiers due to it being quite a dangerous area. I don't know if you can rent there, but definitely you can in South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia. It's expensive to get set up and to get there, but it's not really expensive once you're there. We met an Australian in Ethiopia who was hitch-hiking and catching busses and asking people for lifts (he's in the video with us). We also met 12 Japanese people who were taking public transport from Egypt to South Africa, a Hungarian hitchhiker, and all sorts of other people. There are also overland expeditions you can join, that go in big 4x4 bus/lorry things that look quite fun and I don't think are too expensive.

    • @maximanger7928
      @maximanger7928 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That volcano looks fricking stunning!!! So it was your own jeep ? or you bought it there ?
      when you said you have to take armed soldiers into your car, they stop you and say lets join you guys for your safety ? do you know some of those overland expeditions ? which you join ?

    • @bromleyg
      @bromleyg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a friend's car from the UK. I don't remember there being anything stopping you from driving into the Afar Depression by yourself, but we went as part of an organised trip and we went to the military barracks to pick up the armed guys. A few years ago a bunch of tourists were kidnapped in the area and some were killed, so probably best to go as part of the organised groups. We went with Ethio Travel and Tours. The two big overland expedition companies I know are Oasis Overland and Dragoman, although I've never used either.

    • @bromleyg
      @bromleyg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think probably quite a bit, as we had a nice Landrover. Visas and the carnet that allows you to 'import' and 'export' your car through Africa are the biggest costs. Fuel's not too expensive, and we mostly camped.
