i bought the CNC files from your website. Just required a few tweaks and they ran perfectly. Cheap at twice the price! I used threaded inserts, and countersunk the heads of 1/4 x 20 socket head bolts, so everything is flush. Great design. Thanks very much.

Thank you for these plans, they are great !! I bought the digital version of the plans and i built two for 4" dust collection and modified the plans ( digital is awesome ) for a 2.5" for my xcarve cnc dust collection. Used (overkill ) 1/2" Baltic birch plywood for these.

I use epoxy instead of silicon. Stronger, ready in 5 mins. Last gates I built with epoxy started to fail and come apart. Mine are not as pretty as yours though. Nice design.
You could probably add some gasket material to minimize the gaps around the edges (or to give us slightly more mortal types some more leeway on precision). I’ve seen people cut them on a Cricut for that CNC this precision too!
Hi Jonathan. I got the 4/6” gate plans and they’re awesome. What I’m wondering is if you’ve tried or had anyone else try to adapt these into a 6” to 4” gate/ adapter? Seems like it would work but wanted to see if there are any reasons not to try it? Thanks.
So to attach these on the wall, I added some small 1” x 1/2” corner braces (L-brackets). I had to drill them out a tiny bit where the bolt would fit but it works great. One screw in a stud, the middle bolt on the rounded part in the other.
I purchased the digital plans and can't for the life of me figure out how to print these and cut them accurately. In the video you mention that you can turn on the grid in Adobe Acrobat, which I can do, but it doesn't print with the grid, so there's no alignment/reference once they are printed. Is there something I'm missing? I'm surprised to not see anyone else in the comments section here bring up this issue.
If you have clamp together dust collection, can these still work? I got 5” pipes and fitting online and am toying with just buying the aluminum blast gates from the company. I’d have to tweak the plans I bought from you to fit 5” pipes. Anyone have similar situation or thoughts?

What do you mean 'glass cleaner'? I've also ordered some of those fondant tools. They're basically ball bearings on the end of a stick. They make nice even curves in corners when you're caulking things up.
Lacking a CNC or the patience to cut out a bunch of odd-shaped parts precisely, I would probably cut one set of parts from MDF and use them as patterns for my router and flush cut bit.
great video I was wondering where you got the hose for the upper portion of your dust collection for the router? I'm from Gt. Falls, Mt. & I don't have access to a devoted woodworking store, ie. woodworking, woodsmith journal or Rockler. I can reach them thru the internet although I've never seen either one, didn't mention that I would also like to know where I can find one of those by those I mean the spring clamp that you used to connect one of your hose to the dust port from one of your machines. I'd would like to know where I can find them.? Please let me know!
Anybody having problems getting the bottom (tool side) pvc pipe staying inserted? I’m using the wall mount provided in the plans. I’m on my third blast gate and the 3rd one seems to work itself free on the tool side. It has a 45 degree elbow and a 6 to 4 inch reducer on the tool side. It keeps pulling loose despite two different caulks I’ve tried. I’m considering construction adhesive…
I built the 4” blast gate and it is working great. I need to make the 6” version but it is pretty massive. I’m worried about the weight (can’t attach to the wall). Is there any reason I could not use 1/2” plywood instead of 3/4”?
I was wondering the same thing. I don't see why 1/2" plywood wouldn't work. The thickness doesn't make it more or less effective. If anything, I'd probably only use 1/2" ply.
@@JoaquinGTP I ended up buying the latest set of KM blast gate plans which do specify using 1/2” plywood. The only issue I found is that when the pipe is inserted into the hole there is not much surface area, and silicone caulk alone was not enough to hold the pipe in place. I ended up using epoxy on the inner edge and then also the caulk around the outside, if that makes sense…
@@katzmosestools Having purchased the plans, I tried slicing the biggest middle part and printing the halves vertically. It used a LOT of filament and ended up a failed print. My idea was going to use the printed versions as a template. Instead, looks like I'll be using the printed plans :)
Hey JKM...I know I asked in the other dust collection video, but specifically talking about 1:31 to 1:38 where you are assembling the blast gates and reference "as long as you've cut your pipe square." How critical is squareness with the assembly of the gates? Normally I use a chop/miter saw, but 6 inch is a bit too large for that. Other methods, including a home made miter box have not been fruitful either (and no rental places have a 20 inch cut off saw for rent). :)
Jonathan, I am trying understand the spec numbers for dust collectors. Which would be a better collector, one that said 1023 cfm @ 11.0 " s.p. or one that said 1600 cfm @ 2.0" s.p.? Thanks.

Nice job. Great to see you working with your dad. Be interesting to see what the air quality meter reads with these. my only concern is your not wearing a dust mask. Your lungs are important and dust collection is never 100% effective.
Jonathan Katz-Moses just throwing it out there as alternative is all. Some may want a different look, How’d you figure 2k? I have six stationary machines on my current system and the whole system, including the blast gates and controller for the dust collector cost me $750. I have a short (and very amateur) video on my TH-cam channel showing them in place.
The way the metal ones work is the sheet metal sucks up against the gate frame when the dust collector is running and then gap is non existent. Works great if you buy quality ones.
This was my thought as well. He measured the gap on the wrong side of the gate; the side facing the tool. I've smoke tested my metal gates and there is a tiny amount of leakage on some of them, but it's super minor.

Instead of using lock washers on soft wood why not us a flat washer and a nylock nut? They will not loosen and the flat washers will not sink into the wood as fast.

Good idea. I hadn't thought of using my vinyl cutter to cut gaskets and spacers. That's as close to CNC as I get.

You want to make the long side away from the pivot bolt square so you can fix a flat section making it easy to fix to the wall/ceiling.

My thought was mylar washers on both sides, with nylock nuts...
how much air leaks through where the pipe rests against the hole? have you teste that?

You could combine the two techniques by using your CNC to cut MDF templates and selling them. I would probably buy a set.

Fusion files go directly to 3d printer but it sounds like a massive print that costs more than just buying a metal one

Couldn’t you have provided a better way to splice together the sheets from the plan if printed?

Used what I had on hand
I would put a flat washer under the lock washer to keep the lock washer from digging into the wood.
I wish you had these in 5inch i have 5 inch metal pipe in my shop.
