Have you looked at the stocking numbers of this lake since you fished it 5 years ago . Wondering if they have decreased the stocking since then which is producing larger fish. As we know many lakes are stocked with too many fish resulting in smaller size.

Size 16 black tungsten bead black thread/ red butt silver wire would produce and then a good ol ASB once things progress

Why not dangle to keep it in the zone? Had some nice fish at this lake last summer too, but the 30 foot leader in the wind was a nightmare 😂 if I came across that again I might try deep lining?

Size 14, 16, grey boy or blue dun black bead, black rib. Second sample ASB same size black bead red rib.

With your 30’ leader are you 8lb fluoro from fly line and then a couple of feet of fancy tippet? Or do you use a thicker butt section to help it turn over?

You mentioned that the chironomids were size 16 2x so doesn’t that make them a standard size 12?

A size 16 2x is tabout the same as a standard size 14 😉

Based on the sample, I would tie on size 14 black chironomid with silver wire and black shiny head. Looks like fun!
