  • A 2014 BMW 750Li Review, Rolls Royce for $20,000? Well, the Ghost is based off the BMW 7 series and this particular BMW 750li has the X-Drive and M-Sport package. Ballistic speed from the 4.4l Twin Turbo V8, this BMW 750li is definitely one of the most fun to drive big body luxury cars out there. I will also be comparing this to the Lexus LS460 and the Mercedes S class of this generation.

    These BMWs need to be maintained on time every time as they're sensitive to what's put into them. With that being said it's very well documented on what needs to be done and because there are so many how to videos online you can service a lot of things on these cars by yourself. Sweet driving machines for the used price for sure.

    I bought a 2014 F01 five years ago with 20,000 miles / 32,000 km from a company Chairman who had it serviced by BMW only. It has been the best car I’ve ever owned and I’m keeping it. This whole question about reliability has never been a factor for me. I replaced a drivers side door handle and an oil return line during the 5 years I’ve had it. It’s a dream to drive and that hot-vee V8 is astonishing. Have it serviced every 6,000 miles / 10,000 km and you’ll not have any problems…unless you pound it in Sports mode. Drive anything hard and you’ll pay for the privilege. Mine is a daily with the occasional country run. Just a superb car. For the record, living in Australia, the guy I bought it from paid AUD296,000 (USD193,000) new and sold it to me for AUD76,500 (USD50,000) four years later. Made in Germany at their Dingolfing plant, so it’s solid. No rattles, ever. These oil consumption questions are ridiculous. Mine only requires an extra 2 litres of oil every 3 months at most, and I’m in a country with a very warm climate. Buy a good example of any 7 and you’ll be very happy for years to come.

    Man o man as I type my 2012 bmw 750li xdrive is at BMW. With a ceased up engine. Exactly 6 months after they did work on it for a class action lawsuit for engine troubles. Only 6 months after the repairs they are telling me it’s not covered by BMW and to fix it will be 12,000 dollars. 😒 i bought this car 2 years ago with almost 70k miles on it for 25,000. I still owe 16,000 and it no longer is working. I took exceptionally good care of her the entire time and have receipts of all my work i payed for. Be careful people. I feel i got ripped of and it hurts. Just be safe folks. God bless

    • @redwillsdiychargedupvideo1486
      @redwillsdiychargedupvideo1486 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they're good at trying to throw you off the trail so that they don't have to do any of those class action lawsuit repairs this is some straight up b******* brother... Most likely it was due to the oil consumption of that hot V-engine Which causes valve seals to fail

      2012 is the n63 engine
      The first one.
      Same thing happened to me with a x6,
      They say the 2014 n63 tu engines are better, by allowing less turbo heat to sink back into the engine and cook seals & a host of other things. I still hear complaints
      But not the detrimental ones that hit us.
      In my case they claimed they changed seals on warranty
      and two years latter same issue .
      Instead the dealer be reasonable with the situation and do the job for 2k
      They want 10k to do the job again.
      The original n63 will always have the same problem why even spend so much to expect the same issue again in 2/3 years

    Basically if you pay $100k+ to get a new 750 off the lot, you're pretty much an idiot because their value plummets horribly for some reason. However if pay $30k to get a low mileage 750 thats several years old, you're getting a beautiful, reliable six figure car that FEELS like a six figure car for the price of a new Ford Fusion or Chevy Malibu.

    @star500e 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey there. This is a very nice video, especially true if it is your first or among the first you've posted. There are several things that really stand out and I suspect are just some newbie mistakes:
    - Your assessment that this F02 is still "the ultimate driving machine" is, to me, refreshing. This platform is widely panned for its lackluster handling, numb steering (in your car, it has hydraulic steering whereas the RWD versions are electric) and overly-isolated cabin. Essentially, others have said this is far more like the S-class of yore and then bring up the E38 as the 7 to have.
    - You are correct in that the 2010-2019 RR Ghost (I believe it's RR04) is based on the F02 platform, and indeed, it also shares a LOT of parts, esp underneath the sheetmetal. They are even diagnostically, nearly identical and features can be electronically coded between the two. But the Rolls is definitely NOT the same thing as a 7. Therefore, calling your 2014 F02 V8 xDrive a $20000 V12 Rolls Ghost is reckless. I get it, you may draw inspiration for the comment from Lexus' historically thin guise of uniqueness from Toyota, but that is really not true here. Or with any modern Rolls, frankly.
    - You note a "rattle from up here" later identifying the region to where you point as the mirror. If there is a "rattle" someone mucked about with it and didn't put it back together properly. Historically, German cars are notorious for interior panels rubbing together and "creaking" as a result. This car shouldn't do that, but do look for a loose headliner, especially around the windshield.
    - Your comments on the S-class make no sense. You state the 7 is "far more solid" [than the S-class] which you cannot (and do not) substantiate with anything factual, or even with any kind of specific indicators that lead you to believe that.
    - You mention turbo lag on the S-class and depict a Diamond White W221 sportline. That platform has a turbo engine in the S550 (aka S500) for one model year, 2013, and it is a 4.6L TT DOHC V8 good for 429 hp and 516 lb/ft.... at 1800 RPM. Your assessment of "turbo lag" isn't supported by manufacturer-supplied numbers. The only thing I can think of which you may "feel" is that the ZF 8HP is more eager to downshift vs the 722.9 and that may manifest itself as throttle hesitation which you may have interpreted as "turbo lag." The other point of note is that the model you filmed yourself in has the N63TU which is widely criticized for throttle lag.
    - The comment "most German cars don't last" is quite ignorant to believe and worse to admit/say. Mercedes-Benz has a generations-long reputation for durability which Toyota mimicked when developing its Lexus-branded cars. Evidence of this is blatantly visible in LOTS of places, including the area around that dealer.
    - You should also clarify that the F-platform 7 has air SPRINGS and then, ONLY in the REAR, and THAT is standard across the range on LCI models (at least in the U.S.). Prior to that, it was an option for any model, and standard on LWB. Front suspension uses steel springs with electronic dampers with two settings. The ZF 8HP was standard in the 760 and ActiveHybrid 7 from inception and added to others with the LCI in 2013. Likewise the 4.4 TT V8 was standard in all 750 models since inception, although, the LCI did have revised output figures.
    - The M5's engine, although based on the same fundamentals, is remarkably different from any of the _50i models.
    - The door hinges are not terribly unique, however, if you are keen to see interesting doors, engineered specifically to offer more space to get in and out while reducing its outward swing, check out the first gen Lexus SC (aka Toyota Soarer) and the Mercedes CL (C215 platform).
    - You state "this Rides better than a 3-series" - probably better to clarify that statement with "rides softer than a 3-series" which makes a lot more sense.
    - I think you mean "ogling and Googling" (you said "Oogling and goggling") but that's just nitpicking on my part :)

      Toyota did not mimick Mercedes reliability. Toyota has always made reliable vehicles since they originally began. The same with Lexus in 1989 with their LS400 which have been seen to do 1 million miles without any serious issues. So that part you're completely incorrect.

      It has a V-8, so more fuel cost & more costly to fix if something goes wrong.

      Water pump has to be changed at the same time as the timing belt or you'll have to pay to have the same job done twice once it starts leaking.

    • @MeynMotorGroup
      @MeynMotorGroup  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So that’s always hard for me to put in words but I’ll break it down as good as I can.
      As far as steering other reviewers and myself will refer to good steering as feeling “natural” most new cars use electric steering and some cars, new BMWs and Tesla’s and certainly others program their steering to feel insanely heavy to I guess feel like Hydraulic steering but it just doesn’t work. That’s just one example but this is why I draw so many comparisons in my reviews to give people as much perspective as possible even from cars that don’t compete.
      Cars that handle well typically have a great chassis or double wishbone suspension but cars like F30 BMW 3 series and Porsche’s handle great with strut suspension but that’s just good engineering and that’s why a simple spec sheet can’t describe a cars handling. Balanced vehicles that don’t have a ton of body roll and decent grip typically do it but again really hard to explain for the most part, people just need to take my word for it I guess but that’s why I always ask owners to comment to approve of my thoughts or to negate them completely and give their honest thoughts after many months or years of ownership.

And if you have the money to afford such an expensive car, you can't expect to cheap out on maintenance. It's like you wouldn't buy a million dollar home and then just sit around without investing money for its annual upkeep. The Bmw for me has outperformed my last Benz. If I had this conversation in 2009 to 2011 it would be a different story. I said I'd never go back to BMW lol. I've had 3 7 series and 3 s550s since then.

      @@CharlesJones-en6df those button switches are NOT cheap on the W221😂, what are you on? Its a reason & i say this meaning it. Its a reason rappers rapped about S Classes & the LS, not the 7 Series. 7 Series after 2002, had nothing to offer, it lacks its personality. Yeah they’re great driving cars, but when we speak luxury, comfort, design & personality. Thats definitely the W221, people have praised these for their high quality for a reason. I know people who have left 7 Series for S Classes because the 7 Series were VERY unreliable & lacked compared to the S Class. Men lie, women lie, but sales figures wont. Which is why the 7 Series has never had a year outselling the S Class
