What Happened to The Dukes of Hazzard (1979-1985)?

  • Growing up in the 80s it was a special time for kids who loved cars. Series like Magnum PI, Knight Rider, and The A-Team all had an iconic vehicle that was a centerpiece of the series and epitomized the spirit of the show. But perhaps none was as iconic and memorable as the car at the heart of this episode, The General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard.
The orange painted muscle car was the chariot of Bo and Luke, the two modern day Robin Hoods AKA The Duke Boys and their gorgeous cousin, Daisy Duke. In this episode of Gone But Not Forgotten we’re going climb through the window and get behind the wheel of The General as we revisit The Dukes of Hazzard

I always wanted a prequel series about uncle Jessie and Boss Hogg when they were both younger men in Hazzard.
At the very least it would have been a great flashback episode to do.

❤The stunts made the show….🎉I’m an 86 kid and the broken back jump on the freeway was epic❤
They killed so many beautiful cars…..I love all 1900-73 cars….all were beauties until money and gas crunch, many since, but that show derbyng them irons made me smile and laugh over and over and think, “that stuntman’s dead on that stuffed landing” 😂

When this show was on, I was just a very young kid. I always rooted for Rosco, he was my favourite character. I think he was just something I really warmed to, with his strange laugh, comical scenes with Boss Hogg and his sidekick bloodhound 'Flash' who he would chat too quite a bit.

Man I loved this show, as well all you mentioned. But the General Lee was it. While everyone had the Heather Thomas poster on their wall growing up, I had a General Lee poster. Rewatched it a few years ago from start to finish with DVDs from the library. Friday nights were always this with my parents growing up. This was an awesome video, learned some things. And the Smallville episode had so many Dukes easter eggs

Fun fact: Roscoe's iconic giggle is the same one he used to make his kids and his grandkids laugh, so he used it in the series. He said that he felt that giggle gave Roscoe more innocence than how he was originally written as. Originally, Roscoe was straight up corrupt but he wanted Roscoe more innocent, and it fit considering the show was marketed heavily to kids. I was born in late 93 so this show is a bit before my time, BUT in my childhood, CMT ran CONSTANT reruns of TDOH

That is why I boycotted in watching The Dukes Of Hazzard when Coy and Vance stepped in the series during John Schnieder and Tom Wopat dispute over the merchandise and other issues. I still feel though that they should have brought back in one of the reunion movies Coy and Vance at least because they were a part of the show. I was 14 just shy of 15 when the series premiered and I was instantly hooked so bad that I found a 69 Charger in a local junk yard when I turned 17 and my father and I restored it and a friend who was a sign maker did the graphics for the 01's,flag,lettering and it became one of the earliest replica's around my area. It's just a shame that the current "WOKE" movement has deemed the show "racist" due to the Battle Flag of the confederacy is on the roof and now the show is "banned" from normal TV and only available through certain streaming channels.Anything even remotely related to the confederacy is now taboo so us fans who have replica cars are automatically assumed racist.

The horn heard at around 11:35 is actually my horn taken from my website. And also the sound I sold to Warner brothers for the 2005 movie. Since then, it's showed up everywhere I would least expect it. Cell phone rings, Family Guy, even the Dukes General Lee Cars.
Much like Bo and Luke, I didn't get paid for the extra stuff it was used for. It just kills me... but what can you do? Anyway, very nice job on the video.

Let me start off by saying, I love your videos. I'm a huge fan of your content.... 😀
    That being said....
The actor playing Boss Hogg's last name is Booke, like what you would find in a library, not Brook.
And all the times you mentioned Ben Jones and Cooter, you showed footage of Rick Hurst and his character Cletus.

James Best lived in Irmo South Carolina not too far from where I grew up.

A show I watched so many reruns of on cmt even growing up in the early 2000’s and missing out on the original run I loved every minute of the series though the season without Bo and Luke wasn’t the best all the other characters helped keep it together

The newer movie with Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott is actually pretty good. And there is a sequel to that one that sucks

The age old question what car would win, the General Lee or KITT.

Depends. If the boys were driving General Lee it would win, but Michael Knight couldn't do anything behind the wheel of the general, as Kitt does all the driving.

@JoBlo Originals Michael freaking Knight! David Hasselhoff broke my heart when I saw singing at the Michigan State Fair when I was a kid.

When I was little, I thought the character's name was "Roscoe Pico Train." Also, upon seeing Daisy Duke at the age of 8 years old, I realized I was definitely heterosexual.

One of the main reasons no production company will spend the money to bring the show back was it’s heavy use of the confederate flag. I got no problem with it, but the woke community would be all up in arms about. I’m surprised that was never mentioned in this video.

You talked about Cooter but all the accompanying footage was of Cletus? Whoopsies!
