Solo definitely seems the way to go for this one!
Good, interesting thoughts. The game does have factions that are more military oriented, scenarios with high aggressiveness between players, and you can have many more attacks by using the bonus actions from agenda cards. It is by design and stated outright an euro game; hence the deterministic combat makes sense in that objective.
There is a retail version which is half the size, has no minis, no double layered hexes and no trays but has exactly the same gameplay.

Thanks for the discussion. When it was in play testing I had gotten a tutorial game in so I know what is coming whenever I break into it. For solo I've loved Mage Knight and Frostpunk and in competitive several Lacerda games. A favorite is Anachrony. I'm unsure how this will sit though. My wife likes complex competitive games, but to a limit like Lisboa was too much and so I don't know if it will work for her. It may be a new great solo to pull out a few times a year. Or I may sell it because I have other favorites I prefer....
I feel like Scythe should be the top compared title despite the complexity gap.
This is truly a special game but it is notably heavier. However, there is beauty in it, and it is incredibly deep and unique.
With how many games come out a year and how many I tend to play, these kinds of games just get compared to others more often than not. I don’t wanna take away anything from this game because it is incredible but I can’t justify having it because I’d rather play tons of other games but at the same time, I do like owning it. Lol
Since I’m also not a solo gamer in my free time, that aspect is lost on me unless I’m reviewing it for the channel

so an incredibly dense game like this you enjoy more than andromeda's edge which is leaps and bounds lighter and easier to get to the table...

Would you ever play a co-op game by yourself? Is it worth the effort?
Oh for sure. It depends on the co-op game but I would play it solo. In fact, there’s some that I do play solo; Marvel Champions and Too Many Bones for example

The issue I have with games like this is that they promise a hybrid game, when actually they are just a heavy euro, if combat is just 100% deterministic, then its just a bidding game, which is fine, but its not what I call combat. Also, how many of the lifestyle games do we need? One for a deep dive, if your group is into that, otherwise its not getting played.
Hybrid games always have me suspicious. This was one of those rare instances where I could see the brilliant design but just never want to play it again. Lol

Because I swear and will make jokes that most people might not like. It certainly has tempered over the years but I’ve kept it in there so if people throw a fit, I can say that there’s a warning at the beginning. Lol
