✋🏻 I read the books AGES ago- from what I remember the answer to why there’s no adults, them mentioning multiple procedures, and who’s actually doing work is that there’s multiple cities based on ages. So the city we keep seeing is for like college aged ‘Pretties’ who just party and they get another procedure later that gives them just enough brain power back to do whatever job they’re assigned and they move to another city
As someone who’s a fan of the author, I imagine Netflix asked for the movie rights for Uglies as part of a packaged deal for the rights to adapt his passions project, Leviathan, into an animated series, thinking they’d get another hunger games. The guys said that Uglies is not his best work and that is was really more of a jumping off point to work on more serious sci-fi/fantasy novels - and he had little to no involvement in the uglies adaptation by choice.
i read this book like forever ago in elementary school and i was so excited when i found out it was a movie, but then i saw the cast and immediately knew it wasn’t gonna be good, so im not even gonna watch it
It’s also been a solid 15 years (at least) since I read any of the books, but from what I remember, the Uglies aren’t supposed to be *actually* ugly, they’re normal. And because normal people have flaws and imperfections, they’re seen as ugly by this society. The Pretties are almost supposed to be unsettling to look at. Their eyes are too big, they’re perfectly symmetrical - they no longer look human. I don’t think any of this came across well enough in the movie 😂
Yeah, the difference between the Uglies and Pretties wasn't significant enough. I think Joey King would have been perfectly fine IF the Pretties were like you describe with big eyes and looking too symmetrical
The movie was just way too fast-paced. We weren't given enough time or reason to feel connected to any of the characters. Maybe a TV show in the future could work. Such a bummer because the next book was my favorite.

oh, see that's really interesting! I'll definitely have to check out for the book, I think I'll like it more.

I had to do a double take I thought you were Amanda the Jedi.
lol my friend said the same thing before. I think she's super pretty so I'll take that as a compliment!

Yes, the pacing was definitely off. I just listened to a sample of the audiobook and I already like it 1000% better.
I canceled Netflix a few months ago and I don’t miss it at all.
You should narrate an audio book
Stranger things is 10 times better than umbrella academy ever was it’s honestly Netflix’s only good show atp
It was good
Jesus loves y'all
I'm so sorry 🥲It's hard to follow what you are talking about and who you are talking about with so little imagerie.
Sorry about that, I didn't have enough time to edit more :(
