    That's a huge step, Dan. As someone who has also left a church organization after years of employment, I have some small understanding of the significance of this. It sounds like this can lead to bigger and better things for you. Take good care of yourself during this transition.

    Bigger and better things, Dan! We are here to support data over dogma anyday.

    Okay, let's see it.
    😃Wishing the best in your endeavor and also hope you write (or videotape) or lead a team to write/video an actual Data>Dogma Bible Dictionary once your translation efforts are done!

    Your work on TH-cam is remarkably and notably high quality, so this is great news, however I'm extremely curious to know whether you feel like your employment by such an organisation represents any kind of ideological conflict with the work you are doing here on TH-cam and generally.
    My experience with that particular organisation has not suggested that they value data over dogma, so it would be interesting to know if there was a perceived ideological conflict of interest on either side.

    Can you do a video about the intersection of faith and scholarship using personal examples?

  • @danstoian7721

    Dan, first! As a christian, thank you and God bless you! I know your work is not always in line with my faith, God bless you for seeking the truth and educating us all, you're most generous.
    Second ,love to hear, as a Protestant, what you think, as a scholar, of the Protestant claim that Paul preaches salvation by faith alone.

    Wow, we appreciate your taking on public scholarship full-time. That's a huge step of faith, and my family has definitely become followers of your unique voice in Christianity.
    One question I would love for you to address at some point is what the Bible may say or imply about being trans.
    Thanks so much!

    • @Danny451
      @Danny451 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if you are against trans people, you can bet this "Jesus" character will be against it too. It's almost as if he can read your mind. But that's how he earns his keep I suppose. Now if you are for trans people, you can bet your "Jesus" will be for them also. He's as versatile as Mr. Potato Head.

    • @busylivingnotdying
      @busylivingnotdying ปีที่แล้ว

      I find the bible's words on "a man dressing like a woman" to be outright funny. As Paul was saying that (was it in 1. Corinthian?), he was probably dressed in a toga (a skirt). And when "Moses" said the same, he was dressed in a "robe" (what today would look like a dress if my sunday school information is any guide). So, the whole thing is silly of course, because the male/female dress-codes have always been tied to local customs and changed over time so they would be impossible to "obey" anyway

    I recently discovered your channel but have heard your name mentioned repeatedly & universally admiringly from various quarters across the academic & faith (or non) spectrums. You recent response vids to Dr. Falk were most appreciated. As a NeverMo in Moridor fascinated by Mormonism, your career move makes sense so that you can have full control & freedom to create. I'll add you to my Patreon list, best wishes & keep up the terrific work. Religious studies is far too important to leave to ideologically driven fundamentalists.

      I wish this "Jesus" character would start a TH-cam channel. He would have tens of MILLIONS of subscribers. He really needs to get with the times and stop relying on ancient faulty text. He could answer so many questions, and maybe do a "miracle" or two for us, and could definitely sell a lot of "merch." He could end this debate of his existence one and for all instead of having someone else doing it.

      @@mikemerrillcomposer Okay, sorry, I'm new to his channel. Usually, if someone leaves their church and starts doing "secular" stuff like this, then it means that they have deconverted ... or, are in the process of deconverting. Because, I know, as I deconverted many years back, and I slowly was pointing out flaws in the Bible or in the New Testament, as I was discovering the errors and that the inerrancy was not true. So, I apologize if I misread his particular faith and/or viewpoint on his religious beliefs.

    How often does Dan pray?

    • @chapter404th
      @chapter404th 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Jon that’s your experience big dawg. It’s not the prayer that matters, but the one behind the prayer. My prayers have been answered many times

    • @chapter404th
      @chapter404th 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jon God is the God of the universe, the source of good. He is life. All wisdom and understanding come from Him. He gave those doctors that wisdom. He uses people and things to accomplish His plans, including doctors. God isn’t a genie butler, we initiate and He empowers. I have legit been delivered and seen others healed by God. Just because you have unbelief and lack a correct understanding of who He is doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
      Also God doesn’t always heal, either. God can give life but He also takes life away. “Great in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” says the psalm, because there’s no better place to be than to be in His Kingdom.

    • @chapter404th
      @chapter404th 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jon “you don’t know and can’t prove any of those claims” I don’t have to prove anything to you.
      “You’ve become a professional excuse maker to maintain your allusions” man very tolerant of you. You claimed “this is my experience”, and I did the same thing, yet you’re offended and can’t accept my experience. Shame on you.
      “Prayer performs no better than chance or placebo” that’s your experience and opinion, not mine.
      “John 14:12 claims believed will do what Jesus supposedly did and greater, but no modern day believer can verifiably do anything supernatural”
      For one, Jesus said that to His disciples. Secondly, His disciples did do what He did and greater works, it’s recorded in the book of Acts and early church writings. God did mighty works in the beginning of the church age to expand and grow the church. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen today. I’m a living witness of that.
      Thirdly, you claim “it can’t be verifiably do anything supernatural.” Even if I did, what makes you think you wouldn’t try to explain it through your materialistic worldview?
      Also Jesus is not a fictional character. Critical and conservative scholars agree to that. History and information recorded back was not instantaneous as it is today. Alexander the Great first manuscript was made 150 years after his death.
      “You may sincerely believe you’ve seen others healed, but if subjected to any scrutiny, such claims fall short as having better natural explanations” you’re kind is already made up. Nothing will convince you because of your blinding bias. Even if a miracle did happen, you would just try to explain it through naturalistic presuppositions and dismiss it.

    • @chapter404th
      @chapter404th 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jon “I’d love for prayer to work, but there’s zero data that it does” for one prayer is not a scientific phenomenon. Secondly not everything can be proven scientifically. Most of you atheists hold to the philosophical belief of scientism, which has so many errors in it.
      Secondly, I don’t claim prayer works. Prayer is simply a way to communicate to God in times of praise and in times of need.
      “The claims about Jesus are fictional” no they aren’t. You want them to be, but they’re not. It’s more reasonable to believe than to believe we randomly evolved from soup 😂
      “You don’t believe any supernatural claims about any other ancient figure” because all of the philosophical, prophetic, historical and even archaeological evidence reveals that Jesus is who He says He is. It’s people like you who don’t want it to be true and would rather stay willfully ignorant, dismissing anything that shows you’re wrong.
      “Real evidence and data would convince me” no it wouldn’t. You just said it in your last comment.
      I became a Christian once I actually started to desire truth even if it costed me my comfortable biases, because I used to be an atheist all my life until that point four years back.

    • @chapter404th
      @chapter404th 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jon “even the vast majority of Christian’s who are scientists accept the validity of evolution” no, they actually don’t. They accept scientific evolution, not the evolution of one kind into another. There’s verifiable evidence for adaptation, there is none for a monkey evolving into a human.
      “We have to believe what anonymous authors wrote about him decades later” again, history wasn’t recorded the same back then as it is now. According to your standard of judgement, we can’t trust any single historical document from antiquity because it was produced later than the actual date.
      Also to say the gospel authors were anonymous is a reach. I’d rather trust the early church fathers on that one then someone trying to come up with a hypothesis claiming they’re anonymous.
      “Data would convince me. You don’t have the authority to speak for me” I’m making a educated observation based on your responses. Nothing will convince you, that is a fact. You already claimed I’m delusional, that there is no evidence for miracles, and made up your mind. All you’re doing now are feeble attempts at virtue signaling. You’re closed minded to opposing opinion, as demonstrated by your replies.
      All the data proves Jesus and His teachings to be true. But you don’t want it to be true.
