  • In this video I will be show my very good friend Greg how to use his own Shaper Origin. CNC machines like The Shaper can be very intimidating so Greg has asked me to learn how to use it so that I can teach him how to use it. I hope you have as much fun watching this video as I did making it! NO, THIS IS NOT SPONSORED!!!!

    You guys are too hilarious! I've been super intimidated by that machine and it's domino tape, it's the only reason why I haven't pulled the plug on it. It's the perfect CNC device for living in a campervan 😅

    First off, fantastic video! I have the same story as Greg - I saw the kickstarter almost a decade ago and was instantly sold and I'd never done woodworking a day in my life. Waited 2 years for it to show up and it sat in its hard case for over 5 years. Two years ago I purchased a home and have been using the garage to get myself intimately familiar with woodworking, CNC, and CAD/CAM, etc. My Shaper Origin finally got it's debut last month when I needed to join some walnut legs to an end table. Incredibly versatile and easy to use tool, just wish it hadn't taken me this long to use it 😅

    Outstanding demonstration. I’m so glad I clicked on the video. Both you guys were great. Very real hands on and easy to listen to. You both did great in taking the mystery out of it.

    I have the shaper origin and it has applications that cannot be managed by a CNC. Joinery is one of them and the easy of software use is a big plus. This machine gets better over time

      I didn’t even think about that! I really want to get my own and explore those options!

    When it lost the dominos it’s because you put the workpiece sideways and Greg was turning the shaper to see the screen and pointing the camera away from where you placed the stickers. You should’ve probably set it up perpendicular to how you had it..
    So, your sticker placement was fine, the issue was camera angle.

    inkscape is super useful. I've been using it for lasercutting for years. This machine looks really cool.

    What an awesome cutting tool!!! 🤯 It's so reassuring to know that I'm not the only person that buys cool-looking new things and then leaving them untouched for y-e-a-r-s because I can't figure out "where to begin..." I must applaud Greg (Busy Bee Living) for being wise enough to reach out to the Build master! 🏆🎉

    @MichaelBuilds I have a question for you that is not related to this video.. I am getting ready to pour my countertops and I have one that was wider then the 48" that the melamine sheet so I have a joint, my thoughts are that if I butt them together and screw them together on the bottom side and fill in the tiny "joint" on the top with silicone then after it cures, scrap it with a razor blade then hope it is about as flush as the melamine so it wont show much of a joint on the finished side? I hope this all makes sense....

    "your dominos have got to be same height as work piece"- Does that only affect depth of cut? If so, and lets say you wanted 1'8" depth of cut and your dominos were 1" higher than work piece- could u set depth of cut to 1.125" and over ride the "depth of cut exceeds limit" warning?

    Good luck getting a neck to fit. Typically you built the neck first and then you can determine how deep the neck pocket will be.

    I've been on Sketchup for many years. When you draw a circle, it's not actually a circle but a series of flat lines or "segments" (you can alter the number of segments) that appear to be a circle. How does this transfer to CNC machines and to the Origin? Does these machines read and cut as a circle cleanly?

    So clarify what the purpose of the Domino tape is. Does it act as a boarder stop or a instruction of some type?

      @duff8402 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a map. The device has a camera that maps the dominos and uses software to define where that map is in relation to the cutting tool. The cutting tool itself has an X, Y and X axis that are independently controlled. You don't have to have steady movement, it does the steady movement for you.

    Something not worth $3k. For $3k you could get a small CNC and never have to worry about much of the issues with this thing.

      Stationary CNC machines have size limits. The only limit to this thing is the amount of domino tape you have. Yeah, you're probably never going to cut anything larger than a full sheet of plywood, but at the same time this thing is a fraction of the size and thousands of dollars cheaper than a machine that would cut an entire sheet of plywood. Still wouldn't call it a hobbyists tool, but an entrepreneur with a shop the size of Michael's would find many great uses.
