    Great video! I always take pictures as I disassemble what ever I'm working on. It's saved my ass a few times, especially prototype stuff at work that's a one off build and no manual yet. And a side note for everyone, be super careful with this fuel system. All plastic plumbing and the fuel injectors are $200 each. Also make sure the black screws are all the way in, they feel tight but I realized they needed a few more turns to seat all the way down.

    Great step by step video. After just doing the install now, I’d like to add a couple tips.
    When you pull the airbox, there are 2 small rubber bushings on the bottom right and bottom left side. Be careful with them when you pull the airbox as they are not being held in by anything.
    Another tip, the clamp that connects at the bottom hose of the airbox, the video doesnt show / give a good description on how to remove it. If you look closely there is a small metal tab being held in a hole, put a small flathead screwdriver in between and pry and it should come right loose. I didnt have any luck with needle nose pliers.
    I am applying gold heat wrap to the airbox and it will all be put back together now.
    Thanks for the step by step video bren.

    You can do the IAT relocation but there is no reason to go through removing the flappers as you can have the flappers stay open through software. Once they are open you wont even know they are there because they sit behind the center of the frame. So if anything is blocking air, its the frame at this point. To each there own.

    • @bobjohnson2920
      @bobjohnson2920 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      However the IAT harness and flapper kit comes with the kit. So I think the 2 extra hours worth of work is probably worth it. And there is still some air resistance with the flaps open. How much? Probably not noticeable on a dyno but this way you won't have any doubts.

    Great step-by-step video. Question tho, why go through all that additional headache to remove the flappers when they can be left open within the flash software itself? Would save a lot of time and effort no?

    • @Image-X
      @Image-X ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, flappers open with software makes a lot sense. I think removing them completely though allows for more air to get through. The flappers may be open but they are still occupying space in the intake chamber.

    Based on some logic, my insight about the IAT relocation would be this: we all agree that the air in the airbox is hotter than one in outside the bike. Especially at lower speeds or on traffic. As we relocate the sensor outside the airbox, it will read a lower temperature, but we don’t relocate the engine itself, so engine would still receive the higher temp. air. (Same temperature, as the iat would read in its original location) What we get after this mod is the ECU thinks the air is cooler than it actually is and gives more fuel. The bike starts to run rich, that means a poor air/fuel ratio and lower hp. I cannot understand how do they receive additional power from this mod. Tell me your insights.

    I put the IAT in after drilling a 5/16 hole. It fits fine and the locking tabs on the sensor keep it from coming out but it’s loose because it doesn’t go in all the way. Should I put some sealant around the sensor on the outside of the snorkel to seal it better and keep it from moving around.?

    • @oldmanflair
      @oldmanflair 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I measured the base of my sensor. Which was a 15/32 drill bit. Tight fit and the sensor sits against its base flange.

    I just picked up a 2021 S1000RR M sport, I plan on installing a full titanium acropol Vic exhaust system after break in. I'm going to either do the stage 1 or stage 2 Flash and I don't feel like doing the relocating and the flapper. How much does all of this really matter? You will be fine without relocating the sensor. Once the bike starts moving, it will receive fresh air temp readings.

    A lot of digging for a simple mod. Jeez. My z1000 is a whole lot more simple to get the throttle body exposed. The two boot screws and 4 hoses take off the air temp sensor the one mount bolt on the far upper left. That should let it pop off with a little force. All this is done after unbolting the seat ant tank and the ignition cowl in front of the tank. About another six screws to start with. Nice video mr. bren 😁

      @@644loic guessing for EPA and noise. Less airflow under 6000 rpm allows them to run it leaner resulting in less hydro carbons. The valve in the exhaust works hand in hand with the airbox flapper. It does create more torque but with a full exhaust, flappers removed, air temp sensor relocated etc and the tune will improve torque and HP throughout all RPMs. Especially over 6000rpms

    Does IAT relocation result in lower IATs and therefore richen mixture?

    • @retiredtk

      Full time closed loop bike will adjust itself for mixture with OEM widebands. The IAT relocation allows the bike to add more ignition timing as it has a true, cooler ambient temp than stock.
