Maelstrom is a Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (HoMM3) map included in the Horn of the Abyss mod (HotA), with a reputation for having an unpredictable and sometimes very punishing start, thanks to all starting heroes having Diplomacy and many opportunities to rapidly strengthen.

it's pretty impressive how you manage to keep track of everything that's going on in such a quick and fluent fashion, and also being able to talk/explain completely coherently while doing so. this series is truly enjoyable to watch.
This is what playing strategy does to your brain. I definitly should do it more myself.
There's a mechanic about shipyards that could be helpful. If you have a shipyard flagged, then you can purchase a boat without visiting it with a hero, which saves your hero movement. Also, this is the reason it's useful to flag shipyards, because you have to use more movement to flag it then embark on the ship.
This is also quite handy when you've got a hero without Water Magic skill who needs to summon a boat.
Norovo!!! Yesterday, Sep. 25th there was a live concert of Heroes Orchestra celebrating its 5 year and Paul Antony had join-them!!! I strongly recommend to watch-it! Such a masterpiece, even though it was not their best performance, eh.
Why don't you take the sawmill? It has been sitting there with a blue/purple flag on it for weeks, ever since you first took the Rampart town.
I am sure that Loynis has some very interesting stories now, he took part in the rise of good and the rise of evil aswell and now he takes part in heroes 3 gameplay wich does not even feels like a heroes 3 gameplay.
Oh good, you found out about the quests. I didn't want to spoil them but they're a game changer in my playthrough so far. (Although I've reloaded every time I've lost Galthran because you're way better at picking fights than me.)
Seriously man, you are a far superior player compared to me, but at 22:22 you started trading your precious resources for WOOD and I lost it. At that point you had 3 towns with wood + ore resource silos to build and another unclaimed wood depot next to your rampart town. Why don’t you build them? Also why not go for dwarf treasure for extra gold?
I absoultely love this series! You really never know what to expect here and it's fun to watch such an experienced player as you having a go. I also learn a lot so please keep going or even talk a bit more about your thought processes, that's so insightful! :)

You can send 1 stacks of a main hero to a pandora's box, so if it's guarded you can flee and just re hire from the nearest town, if it's safe well you get all the potential rewards for the right hero

A quick tip for Hota. YOu can check movement left with by holding alt buttont if you have the hd mod :)
I tried this map after watching your videos and i am at the second restart XD I had Blue come on my island on week 2 with some absolute murderstacks,one had 200+ nomads,35 efreet sultans and 44 death knights...an Adelaide with 23 in attack and 15 in spell power. Ok then..
On week 2?! That's insane and borderline unwinnable. I guess diplomacy must be involved... Your only hope would be to run away, attack a weak/neutral town and hope Adelaide gets distracted somewhere for a long time.

Fun fact: when you are playing Solmyr you can bring a weaker army so the enemy troops split up. Game calculates in how many stacks to split up troops by seeing how strong your army is.
Feels scary to deliberately bring a weak army though!

where do you set the game for showing the shadow movement of the others creatures not playing in that turn?
When in battle, press the little PC button at the bottom left of the screen. That opens a menu where you can toggle options for movement shadows, etcetera.
You can also hold a key (can't remember if it's ALT, CTRL, or SHIFT) while hovering your cursor over a unit to see how far it can move.
when you took on the manticores guarding the Pandoras Box, why didnt you use clone? isnt that the hero's speciality ?
Yes but I try to avoid using expensive spells if I think it isn't needed. In that battle I gambled on the manticores not getting morale and lost

That's Red's best unit, not his! That's cause we're used to always be the Red player, but in this game Noro chose to be Orange :p

Can CLONES cast spells? Can you cast the CLONE spell multiple times so that there are 4 or more on the field? I have never had the opportunity to cast the spell.
I'm fascinated by the way you never leave units in your Towns. I always leave huge armies. Maybe I am playing incorrectly? 😢
When you have not enough LUMBER in your economy, why not build RESOURCES SILOS that produce LUMBER?

Clones can cast spells if the original creature hasn't casted yet, e.g. a cloned Archangel can cast Resurrection if the original Archangel hasn't already used it earlier in the battle. I can't actually remember if you can clone more of a creature already cloned... I think so? 😅 you can definitely clone at least one of each of your original stacks.
I have considered building a resource silo for more wood but usually I prefer to spend the 5000 gold elsewhere.
Yeah resource silos are very expensive (5000g), so even when you need the resource it gives, spending 5k on that is not always the best option :p
