This operetta is available on sale on DVD. I bought it a few years ago.

Would love to know which company this was. Looks like it was a cracking performance of "Patience!"

It is Opera Australia! And I agree, it is an absolutely tremendous production of Patience - indeed, one of my favourite renditions of Gilbert & Sullivan in general! Here are the links to the full Acts 1 and 2 respectively (they are audio-only though) on TH-cam, if you are interested:

@@Oldangr Thanks so much for providing this info! Based on it, I was able to locate a DVD of "Patience" performed by this company. Greatly hope that DVD was the source of this particular clip! Thanks also for the links to audio of the full performance, which I will enjoy while waiting for the DVD to arrive!

@@steveember8972 If the version you ordered is from 1995 and stars Anthony Warlow and Dennis Olsen, it's the right one. Enjoy! :-)
PS If you want to see other clips from the same show, do a search for "Patience Dennis Olsen" and "Patience Anthony Warlow." Other clips are on TH-cam too, including Olsen singing "If you're anxious for to shine" and Anthony Warlow and Olsen singing "When I go out the door".

@@SarahB1863 Thanks so much, Sarah. I checked the Amazon listing from which I ordered the DVD and, while there is no reference to 1995, it does feature the performers you mention, so hoping this is indeed the right one! So nice to hear from another G&S devotee, and thanks for the guides to searching for other clips for while I'm waiting for the DVD to arrive. Cheers, and thanks again!

@@steveember8972 You're welcome! I've been a G&S fan since age 10, when my elementary school put on an extremely truncated performance of "HMS Pinafore" as part of a school revue. I was probably the only fourth grader in Ohio to voluntarily skip recess to listen to the school's vinyl record of "The Mikado" (this was in 1974)! All the other kids might have thought I was a total weirdo, but on the other hand I had one fantastic vocabulary. :-) Enjoy the DVD!

2:36: I don't think the "Skill of Sir Garnet thrashing a cannibal" line will be used much longer. It's highly questionable whether the Asante of Ghana practised cannibalism. It was part of the 19th Century view of Africans as savages. That, plus the association with colonialism.

However, the line does reflect the thinking/attitude of the time and there's no need to rewrite history to reflect modern sensibilities. The exception would be if something was highly offensive, and the example of that is the three instances when Gilbert used the n word.
