      @CaseysCustoms what about using 2 windshields from slightly newer chevys (like a 53) where they went 1 piece, cut both long and you keep your centre join but with 2 wider pieces that surely are close to the right shape ✌️

    Look for a windshield about the right width from any car/truck and integrate that window frame/windshield into your body. I have seen this done for widened MGBs using a US 60s pickup truck windshield. If it is one piece you could make a fake divider for it if that's a big part of the look you're going for.

      I had the same idea, I think this would be a super unique thing that nobody's done on TH-cam. On top of that you could measure the width that you need and then ask your viewers to post the width of their windshields and of what they're off. It would be like crowdsourcing your build. 66 c10 about 67"

    Hey Casey, I love your 50 Chevy project. The only thought I have for your windshield delema is using two '54 windshields and cut them 4" long on oposite sides. Since they are one peice you would still have a seam in the middle. Just a thought. Keep up the awsome content. Dale.

    • @jonpeters8344
      @jonpeters8344 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This was my thought, a early 50’s Olds is one piece, and sits in the existing corners. Overlap in the middle, to counter the roll or crown of the glass, you could tuck the sides back a little farther than original, helping with the v-butt.

    use two front windows to make one. take one window and at the center point cut it 3inches to the left of center and then on the other cut it 3inches to the right. that will allow the window to line up and the sides and then it will allow the center of the window to be covered by the trim

    Cassey, for the windshields, look into R.V. Camper windshield. Class A R.V. windshields have curves in them. I think maybe a Ford Class B windshield could work if you widened the front and rear windshields. You just have to cut them down to hight and with. An 1989 Internation cab over tractor truck windshield might work too. Another idea is finding two front and rear windshields each and cut them to fit the side and use the straight pieces for the center pieces with two dividers between the curve and straight pieces. You can cut both front windshields to center. Fill the gap with clear silicon and a center devider. The rear window would have two deviders.

    I am definitely of the opinion of widening the windshield. You may be able to find a windshield from a car of that same era that is close to the size you need and you can try widening the frame, but shrinking the part where the window actually sits. Plus you may be able to keep that trim down the middle like it currently does. But keep up the great work man!

    Ditch the factory windshield frame, since it doesn't fit at all.
    Use complete custom lexon windshield. My buddy did on his 55 Chevy pickup. He thought it would yellow/fog and need replaced every 6 months but it still looked good after several years. Lexon isn't solid, so you can easily give it a slight curve. He held in place with sheet metal screws (oh he did this because a factory replacement windshield was like a thousand bucks. Actually I think it was plexiglass and only cost like under 50 bucks)

    Regarding the windshield, if you got a split screen surround from a late 40’s early 50’s car that used flat glass you could widen it easily and just get two pieces of flat glass cut to fit the new dimensions. . Custom guys often do this when chopping these 49-54 GM’s , saves the hassle and expense of cutting the curved glass windshield when doing a top chop .

  • @whatsgoingon1011
    @whatsgoingon1011 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Casey,,for the rear window, you should look into using the rear glass from the 55-57 chevys as i believe they are wider. Another thought is using the rear windows(three pieces) from a 57 Oldsmobile Super 88.

    Casey, I have an Idea on how to fill the center gap in the hood and the truck. 1952 Pontiac Chieftain used either a stainless steel or chrome waterfall style accent that went down the center of the hood and truck. Which would help tie the Pontiac G8 to the outside body line.

    BOOM HS! 🤣 fps doug never gets old. I would of just plated over the front framerails to box it in and overlap onto the bar. Flat glass the windshield, use a old truck split window frame or something and weld it overtop of the curved stuff. As for the back window I'd just move it back and shorten the deck plate to align the ribbon body line

    The trunk hinges DO need to move out, because when you split the trunk lid in the middle, the hinges will spread. So when you cut the bottom outside pieces of the back window frame, include the hinges. That will make the filler piece straighter as well.

    Since the windshield is split down the middle anyway so what if it has 2 center posts with a flat rectangle between. I think the determining factor there is whether the center split is flat from top to bottom so the center glass is flat too.
    The C-pillars being wide doesn't really matter too much.

  • @talleneagle1974
    @talleneagle1974 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Have you ever tried to leave the A pillars in with the original front window on the donor body and graf the old bodies to the newer front glass it would be less work i would think. Just use the part of the A pillar on the 50s car that the door seals to and graft it to the A pillar to the newer car just cut the door seal out of it and just cover the top to the shape you need.

    Good build for a plexiglass racing strip/engine window/moonroof/burglar selection trunk slit. Very impractical but would look awesome. Lol. The vertical gap each side of the grill might fit an air vent from the g8 bumper.While you should get away with not widening the back window, the front won't look right if you widen the a pillars the amount it is going to need.

  • @bart9859
    @bart9859 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Casey I've got a few questions: 1. The rear window package tray. Are you going to cut it down so you can put the G8's back seats in? 2. Wouldn't it be easier to do the chop before you put the roof back together? You have a very good start to the 1950 Chevy project.

    • @CaseysCustoms
      @CaseysCustoms  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      1. Yes plan on using the g8 rear seats so I’m gonna have to cut that down a lot lol.
      2. Not really, with a chop you want to have as few pieces as possible (just more room for error) so if i chopped it now without anything being together i would easily have 25-30 pieces to fit instead of 6-7. Not only that but bringing the roof down in one piece helps finalize the vision i want with the chop, if i was just holding up one section of the roof at a time it would be hard to get a good “look” at it. If that makes sense lol

You should search for an LSA to put on this thing. And I alway like the 50 Chevy cars and trucks. No idea it was so narrow. Give it a sleek long, Right. Great concept, Dennis Thinking can you widen the hood on the sides instead of the center. And add a A Pillar glass corner so you have 2 thin A Pillars split by a flat glass that gives you visibility with a wide pillar. Good Luck. D

    Casey, another vehicle that comes to mind is a 53 chrysler new yorker back window. it is a 3 piece with just a small trim line between the 3 pieces. It may work for the back, or maybe even for the front with some trimming??
