    Late to the conversation but buy a cheap roll of non slip shelf liner (it’s like rubber material will small bulbs) and cut a small circle that fits under the Mac Studio. Will no longer slide and you’ve spent ~USD 1.00 and no gluing or screwing anything to your desk. I did this for my M3 iMac and works like a charm.

    I bought an M2 Max with 64GB RAM and a 2TB drive for editing in Davinci Resolve - that was 14 months ago and I couldn't be happier with it. It replaced an M1 Mac Mini with 16GB RAM and also a 2TB drive, and where the M1 would grind to a halt, the M2 Max powers through. I need to be doing some extremely challenging edits to slow down the M2 Max, so it'll be staying a while! I understand the bigger drives are significantly faster than the base 512 GB, and there's now a non-slip stand with dust filter on Amazon. Good review.

    You’re the 1st guy I see who was expecting good quality from a tiny speaker inside a closed aluminium box… that speaker is intended for system sounds 🤙🏼

    I just finished hooking mine up. I order it with a 1TB drive. I love it; quiet, plenty of ports (got rid of my TB4 dock that was attached to my M1Pro MBP) and I saved $$ by tading in my MBP. They gave me $1300, so my out of pocket cost will be $800. I will gladly pay $800 for a M2 MacStudio! Keep up the good videos.

      I've also heard that on this particular model, the 1TB gives you back faster read/write speeds, but the 512GB version, the speed gets cut in half basically; EDIT: he mentions it in the video, hadn't got to that part yet hahaha

    Question for you or for anyone who picked up this model. My Macbook was dying, so I ended up upgrading to this model last week, and it is just excellent and quiet. My main issue has been a 'warm' smell from the back that my wife described as "alkaline." I'm unsure how to describe it, so opt for her description. The first day, I could smell it from my chair (the unit is on the back corner of my desk), but now, after a couple of days of use, I can only smell it if I move right next to the unit. I looked on discussion boards and whatnot, but I haven't found anything about this. Everything runs normally. And some have said this is a 'new computer' smell. I'm wondering if you noticed something similar on your unit?

Before I was rendering everything on my pretty high end gaming PC and with all the effects I use in my content 5 minutes of video took around an 40 minutes to render. Hey Kyle, new subscriber here. Awesome video! I've been using the M2 Ultra Studio since it came out and absolutely love it. I just made the switch from a massive Threadripper pc to this tiny beast. Question for you, I am considering going from 3 ultrawide screens to one 4k OLED panel. The Asus ROG Swift panel in particular. I've seen some videos about Mac having issues with these types of panels but seems like the M2 version solves those issues. What are your thoughts?

    • @KyleErickson
      @KyleErickson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would assume looking at that monitor that the issue would've been with the HDMI spec not being able to support the monitor bandwidth. Previous Macs before the M2 Pro/Max/Ultra only supported 4k/60Hz, so I'd assume this would be a problem area. That'd be my assumption anyway, I don't know any specifics as to issues people may have been having.

    To stop your Mac Studio from sliding when you use the SSD card just glue or screw a couple of wooden tabs to the leg or shelf of the stand you made so the studio rests against something and can’t move backwards. Love your videos!

    Loved the review!! I do have to say though, judging audio through the built in speaker is like judging the audio through the speakers of a Hong Kong transistor radio. I can't imagine anyone buying a premium device relying on the built in speaker. Myself I'll be using the HDMI for audio output.

    Does the better performance from 1 TB ssd work only when you are using something like FCPX off the internal SSD or even if using a project that is on an external SSD? I bought the 1 TB SSD version Studio Max 2 and waiting for it to arrive but was wondering , My projects are pretty big and with all my apps and plugins on a 1TB SSD drive, I won't have much free space to edit off the internal SSD. So is that performance better with all tasks anyways no matter where my editing projects are located? Thanks for clearing that up..

      I would recommend you to buy something like the external Thunderbolt 4 SSD enclosure that he uses for your work in progress. All your media and assets would run smooth (I think the manufacturer is named Acasis). Normally 2/4Tb NVME 2 Gen 4 would be more then enough for me to work around. After finishing a project, I backup everything important to physical HDDS Storaged on a MacPro 2012 that I use a server, but you can do it on any other Volume. Hope it works for you.

    About the crappy speaker: if you do photo or video editing, of course you need a lot GPU and such, but let’s be honest, you don’t need a good speaker by any means to get your work done. Now, if you do sound stuff or music like me, you probably won’t look (or hear) that little speaker at all that because your main output system is going to be a a pair of good monitor speakers connected to a proper audio interface. What I need from this machine is power, not good sound. But, two things regarding the sound card: one is the headphone jack is high impedance, so basically can plug any high end pair of cans and get full sound, something most of laptops can’t do, and second, that shitty tiny speaker can be used as a reference for how your good mix will translate to crappy speakers out there. Thoughts?
