One of my friends at the Whitewebbs Museum of Transport has some Lego layouts, including a massive one in his loft. He and his grandchildren built them.
Awesome, I'm always impressed at what the LEGO community manages to come up with, especially when it comes to custom loco designs like you see here. Thanks for watching 😃
That's fantastic, That Model Railway Guy. With recognizable locos and stock you can actually build a credible model railway without the obsessive rivet-counting some are prone to. Well done, everyone.
It's really impressive that the MOC locos are so recognisable as their real life counterparts rather than just being "generic train". Thanks for watching 😃
The amount of time and thought that's gone into this layout is just incredible. We definitely need more LEGO layouts like this at exhibitions. Absolutely amazing work by everyone involved. 👍
I've definitely started to see more LEGO layouts at major exhibitions so it does seem to be catching on. There was a layout at Ally Pally this year and there's supposed to be one at the NEC event next month too. Thanks for watching 😃
I have a few 7/8 stud wide trains that i've built with instructions bought from blockjunction, but i'd love to buy some for that Class 66. What a beast of a model.
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy no worries, where was this if you don’t ming me asking? Also just thought I should let you know that you inspired me to get into content creation and I’m really grateful.
Legos have come a long ways from when they first started. The trains look great and so much variety in engines and cars. Thanks for sharing. GOD BLESS from America 🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕🚂💕
I think these are all custom built models so they take a lot of time to build but in theory anyone could build them given the right amount of bricks. Thanks for watching 😃
Yeah considering all these locos are essentially scratch-built using custom drive trains it's pretty impressive. The hobby is expensive in general but it's up to each of us to decide how we want to spend our money. Thanks for watching 😃
When I was very young I had Lego trains - bright blue rails and battery powered locos etc. Nothing as sophisticad or real looking as today. I was always very peeved because in Europe Lego also sold clip-on electric power supply tracks so that batteries were not needed - but this was not sold here in the UK. These were located in the middle between the running rails.
I think it's gone through a lot of changes over the decades. From my understanding everything used to be track powered like traditional model railways until they moved to battery power to make it more kid friendly. Thanks for watching 😃
These days I believe they're all battery powered. They used to be 12v or 9v track powered when I was a kid but they moved over to battery power around 2006 I think. Given that this layout uses plastic rails I would imagine this is also all battery powered too - though I think controlled using a smart device via bluetooth these days. Thanks for watching 😃
great model railway just restarting out in lego trains loved the class 50 and 66 after christmas going to be building a lego clone odel of the union pacific big boy, at the moment got a lego emu in red and a lego clone of a BNSF sd 40-2
Awesome! It certainly seems to be catching on. There was a big railway exhibition here in the UK last weekend and the two LEGO layouts were both getting lots of attention. Thanks for watching 😃
I'm always confused why people are shocked when something is made of lego. It's literally a massive library of uniqe shapes that are all compatible with each other, of course anything and everything will be made using it. Is it just me being insane and having a habit of breaking down basic shapes?
I would say it’s less shock and more admiration. Don’t forget the vast majority of people’s experience with LEGO is following a set of instructions to build something predetermined - usually a fairly small set. To see something like this which has been custom designed and not only built but made to operate is another thing entirely and shows a level of commitment. It’s the same as scratch building locos on the more traditional side of the hobby. Most people buy RTR models but everyone is impressed at a scratch built loco which can be made out of some fairly common materials. Thanks for watching 👍
Why not start out by copying ideas and taking inspiration from others? There's no rule against it and it could be a good first step before you get more used to adapting an evolving things to suit your own ideas. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Yeah, I know. I think what I’m really creative about is when I make stories with mini figures and sets. You should SEE the amount of Lego I have.
I was fortunate in seeing this layout and thought it terrific. Would have to have Lego trains as a kid... well to be honest I would love to have something like this layout now 😊
It's great isn't it! We've had a LEGO layout of some sort at the Spa show every year so far and it always goes down will with both kids and adults. Thanks for watching 🤩
I've dabbled with LEGO in the past (I used to make stop motion films for a while) but ultimately I don't have the space unless I was to get rid of all my other layouts. Thanks for watching 😃

Great to see LEGO model railways being featured!
My pleasure! Always great fun to have you guys at the Spa exhibition. Best of luck for this weekend and thanks for watching 😃
That is a brilliant layout and an excellent name to boot
I wholeheartedly agree on both counts! Thanks for watching 😃
Lego is just the gift that keeps on giving
It certainly is. If you ever get tired of one layout, break it down and build something new! Thanks for watching 🤩
This layout is insane. The work that has gone into building this must be immense.
It's incredible isn't it! Just the sheer number of bricks alone hurts my head. Thanks for watching 😃

super fun

Directional lighting 👍

Nice that must have taken ages to build. Love it 👍
It's probably not as long as you might think but the design process probably took quite a bit of work. Thanks for watching 😃

Yeah the Class 66 did look impressive. Sadly I didn't get to see/film it running. Thanks for watching 😃
This is impressive!
It really is - just shows model railways can come in all shapes and sizes! Thanks for watching 😃

Love Lego trains! Hope to have one one day!
They're fun aren't they! Really great to see proper modelling being done in L Gauge. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I saw on FB the other day someone was asking if anyone does proper ops with Lego like us regular Model Railway People.
I want all these models
I don't think you're the only one who feels that way 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Fantastic!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😃
The fact that i can recognise this layout as Tunbridge Wells West on Spa Valley Railway is incredible.
Yeah it really captures the feel of the place! Thanks for watching 😃

Brilliant ! I'm a big LEGO fan, maybe I should have gone down that route instead of normal OO...
That's definitely one way to do something a bit different! Thanks for watching 😃
these trains have remarkable running qualities , even to being used as garden railways ! damned expensive though .

So, if you do a layout out of Legos, you will always have something to build on....😊
Or the opportunity to take it apart and make something different. Thanks for watching 😃

Just wondering how Lego trains are powered, Battery or Mains Electric via a transformer?
These days I believe they're all battery powered. They used to be 12v or 9v track powered when I was a kid but they moved over to battery power around 2006 I think. Given that this layout uses plastic rails I would imagine this is also all battery powered too - though I think controlled using a smart device via bluetooth these days. Thanks for watching 😃
I was wondering for those ratio signals you made a while ago, if you could tell what material did you use for the lenses?
I used some lighting gels that I had going spare. You can sometimes get sample packs as obviously you don't need a huge amount. Thanks for watching 👍

This is amazing 😍 Love Lego and how you can make anything. You are opening up for more criticism from OO purists same as with TT :-)
Bring it on! Model railways are all about fun so who cares what the purists think. Thanks for watching 😃
Gosh, I could never create all this. I'm sad to say that creativity has a blocked door when coming out of my brain.
