I personally love this compared to project runway. Because most of the contestants have a name, there is less drama and less competiveness, everyone is lovely and super talented.
YES! I stopped watching Project Runway because of the attitude of the contestants. This was very refreshing after watching 3 episodes so far :)
I did want angel and ashton in the final instead of minju and daniel but it was still super enjoyable ashton and marco were my favorites

Yeah, project runway was fun but the best thing about it was Tim Gunn. I mean, they had Micheal Kors as a judge so I just could not take it seriously and most of the clothing was like a high school fashion show.
I like that the contestants on this show were an actual cross section of the type of ppl out in the market that call themselves designers. It becomes quickly apparent who actually deserve the title without any of the cattiness. I think they could also get better judges on this show but I’m into Alexa Chung.. I feel she has a good understanding of fashion despite not being a designer herself...(she’s a merchandiser ppl) whereas Tan France (I love him on Queer Eye) has a less sophisticated eye so I wish they would just stay as presenters and maybe not have vote. (I do wish they would stop calling themselves designers. )
The celeb stylists they had on as judges were a total eye-roll but they balanced it with a good bunch of honest to goodness real designers which gives the show some clout. I think next season will be better. Also, the winner of this season is correct.

QueerBiNatureNYC yes especially the part when marco had the injury on his nose after the bar fell on his face, it was fast paced and had recovered back after coming from the hospital, the show is very professional. Very nice as a whole, in my opinion.

I loved loved LOVED this! So refreshing to see something without drama. It left me with a warm heart. Everyone was lovely and there is no character I didnt like. The talent is very high with this one. The designers are so good and nice to each other. No hate,just love for everyone! Alexa and Tan are so cute and sweet and on point with everything they say. Netflix, I want more shows like this !
I prefer it over Project Runway, because here there was no drama, bitching or overly mean comments just to make people feel bad. Criticism was delivered justly by the judges, and I loved that the contestants even helped each other, even further down the show where the competition got bigger, but they were always willing to help each other. It's about fashion, and not drama. I felt like Project Runway turns too much into reality tv, at times.

Last season of PR the contestants were a lot less critical and snarky about each other's work, and I really like it. It depends on the people, and also the editing.

Yes! I loved that even right to the finale they were still consulting with, encouraging and advising each other. So wholesome! And makes for such good viewing.
Minju and Angel slayed the competition. Something that really stuck with me was when Angel said she didn't want China to be known in fashion as just the country that mass produces. It really shows the potential, talent & whole different mindset in which Asia has to become a leading producer of fashion, high couture AND streetwear. We already see how Korean/Japanese fashion have influenced so much, they’re literally 5 steps ahead of public/majority fashion imo too. We shouldn't always be expecting on LVMH and other established European hauses, classic American brands or just those few eccentric western brands to be the only ones to influence universal trends.

Even though Daniel is a men's wear designer, he would probably also be a talented dress designer.
Honestly my style is more like minju kim,working on colors and patterns.But Daniel's finale look was just brilliant and trust me the dresses became my ultimate goal....specially the black one which he smashed with hammer
Julian from the first 2 people who were eliminated did not deserve to go home Haley was the one who made that crappy suit she was the one calling the shots he basically lost his chance in the show because of her! They should of eliminated just her!!
That's what I was thinking. She had the audacity to act pissy and say in the previous episode that the bold suit was going to "bring them down to the bottom" and how it was the truth, but actually was the reason it brought them up, then the next thing you know, she takes over and they get eliminated the next episode. It was ridiculous and totally robbed Julian of his spot.

That self-centred bitch was terrible in terms of attitude. Julian is more a team player and didn’t point any finger unlike Hayley. You can tell she has this kind of bitter bitchy face which is very difficult to get along with.
tbh in my opinion julian was robbed. you could tell that he had bold and innovative ideas but hayley basically held him back because she didn’t wanna compromise with his style. i’m so mad they eliminated teams and not individuals. was still a great show though.
Robin so right. I honestly believed she was slight jealous & selfish of julians work n of course ideas. He knew she would fail them thats why he just sat back & let her do her thing.. she didn’t even wanna accept his incorporations.. just because she feel like he wasn’t accepting hers . She was being totally selfish

first of all, julian needs to listen to her too.. i think they could be so good if they dont have so much ego.. yes Julian's look was stunning be he outcasted the girl.. which resulting the next eps.. yeah.. so bad for them.. but the real saddest part is when nasheli was the first one to leave T_T
I see your point but honestly, they were both so selfish. To his credit, he tried his best in episode 3 to make her happy buth would they just have communicated more and turned down their ego a notch I think they could really have come up with some amazing pieces. It was a two-way street.

Even thou Angelo wasn’t the best with the technical aspect he was just wonderful with his ideas and such a super super wonderful personality. He knew his strengths and wasn’t afraid to state his weakness. In my eyes he is a winner because he came in and he left with knowledge. I love you Angelo

Just watched episode 1 on Netflix and can we talk about Isaac and Nasheli?! Nasheli deserves a wild card opportunity or something! She was robbed!
so-adorabool honestly!! her partner isaac barely did anything & the decision he pushed for brought about their downfall. she was hesitant from the start, and i wish she had just followed her intuition. the way he played off such a big opportunity at the end was so annoying to me and i feel like even the judges caught it too when tab called him out for that indifference. while he might just be supporting himself (his background was vague), she’s got 3 jobs and 3 kids to feed while still holding onto her passion. i hope nasheli finds her big break soon!
@@cuppancake6122 I wish they had swapped the teams. If it had been Isaac and Hayley and Julian and Nasheli I think it would have been much better. I wouldn't have missed Isaac and Hayley going first. Id love to have seen what Julian and Nasheli could have accomplished together.
@@cuppancake6122 Nasheli is Chair of the Fashion Department at Moore College in Philadelphia, a bit of information the show for some reason neglected to mention. I guess it conflicted with the narrative they wanted to push for her.

Nasheli was my favorite from the start of the show and it made me sad that she got paired with someone like Isaac. She did all the work other than picking the fabrics. She's such a lovely spirit. Isaac's attitude at the end just made me upset for her, because you could just tell how much this meant to her versus him, she did really well in holding in her emotions.
Omg..for the first time a show with no drama!!!!!! I loved how the contestants genuienly help each other. Noones being rude or mean. No shouting.Theres no jealousy. They all respect each other's creative outputs. Man!!!! Make a season 2. Other shows learn to make shows like these!
They're ALL fabulous, but the 3 the judges picked were my favorites too. What amazing talent!
I am currently watching this on Netflix and had to come here to comment. Isaac "we made this as a team". I have never wanted to throw my phone till he said that. Unfortunately he took his partner down with him.

Yeah, it was sad to see Nasheli go after she busted her ass on that horrible dress while Isaac just stood around posing. Dude is not a designer...he’s a merchandiser. He shouldn’t have been on the show and ppl need to start making the distinction.

I just came here to say that those 2 black women should have been sent home long time ago I understand their work but them as a collabo doesnt work they dont know how to collaborate their work at all again not saying they arent good I'm saying them working together working on the same outfits doesnt work
Pyrrhic Actions what makes you say they aren’t good at collaborating. There were teams that got farther than them with some partners not even knowing how to sew or sketch. I think they were at least better than them as far as collaborating.

Again they are good but together their work clashes both have very loud ideas when they put them together their outfits become to much even the judges told them I think they would have got further if they worked apart 🤔 but unfortunately they choose to work together....like did u watch the show ? Pyrrhic Actions I agree. I thought they had an amazing friendship, but they only really were able to excel in one challenge (the patterns one) and it seemed it was only because it was the one time they were both on the same page.

I started watching it for my man Tan France!! Kicking ass. Stayed for the designs. The budget user here is INCREDIBLE . Plus people here are actually skilled and not thrown around without much knowledge.
Really enjoyed this. It's tough to follow on from the popularity of Project Runway but this is different and its amazing to see the creativity of these designers. Great hosts too.

This show is the embodiment of how talent can come in so many different ways. I was completely stressed out when Tan France gave that dramatic appeal at the end (the final announcement). I thoroughly enjoyed Minju Kim's designs. Her attitude completely reflected in all her styles. The show stopper was just amazing as rest of her collection. Minju Kim if you ever come across this comment please know that you are a inspiration to me. I love your idea and how you display it. Its very difficult to execute what one thinks but you have done it so beautifully. I enjoyed this show and it was such amazing to see how everyone is supportive of each other. This show was amazing. Tan France and Alexa Chung I enjoyed how you have hosted this show. I was crying when Minju won infact the whole show was filled with love, colour, emotion and bravery!!!

Daniel should have won Minju had a lot of nice pieces but a lot of women could not wear them and that wedding dress was AWFUL really ugly!
I was curious what “exclusive cut” meant and saw that episode one on netflix is 45 minutes long. Half an hour seems a lot to cut
I loved all of the looks. I think the pink gown was stunning and unique. I also loved the white top over the pant with the black skirt.
Loved the way the models were jumping and celebrating Minju's win!

I wish there was another season of this. I'd love to see it without teams for every challenge so I can really see their work shine, or where different people team up in each challenge to see more variety at least. Also, and this is a smaller thing, I'd simplify the set for the runways. The projections often distracted from rather than featured the garments. Lots of promise in this premise, though!

Hard to tell if it’s better than project runway as they both have strong points. NIF has better production value than project runway. NIF has Less drama than PR so that could be a good or bad depending on the viewer. NIF has more experienced contestants than PR so the NIF end product are much better in my opinion.
And I think they picked the right winner. I was skeptical but that winning collection was life!

Yes! He choose a bad fabric to work with and let her do all the work, didn't listen to her at all, and she had to pull through, but despite everything, she still managed to finish the look on time. It was really unfair that she had to go, even though it was an important opportunity going down the drain for her and "just another day" for him. They should have given them the option to switch teams or move to another team after their partner gets disqualified, or work on their own. That would have been more interesting and would have added more stakes for the show.

Season one was excellent. Binged the whole thing. I need season two soon!!! And please never change the judges. Tan and Alexa are so great together.

They started and ended the runway show with the two best looks. Yes, I'm biased coz Angel and Minju are my faves. But if you've seen the whole thing, you'd get it.

@@Mandy_the_warrior me too. Mostly because she had a horrible partner that she had never really worked with while other had been working together for 20 yrs. I wish we could've seen what she had to offer :/
@@nathaliaestevez1 The Witch Author 🌙 ofc it's a show and it's heavily edited, I'm not stupid. However, he even said himself he was leaving her with the brunt of the work. All I said was that I wish we had gotten to see more from her. Tbh I didn't care much for him, but I'm sure he isn't the one dimensional person they portrayed him to be on the show. In addition, no it obviously was not necessary for her to talk about her problems, but that doesn't make them invalid.

At the first I was rooting for Angelo and Charles cause I love how they did the pink and black combination...
And then I fell in love with the Dragon Princess duo. I like how diff they were but somehow they could work together.
Angel had the vision on the future while Minju was more of the traditional clothing.
Minju from the start, her style is always noticeable....modest, bright, soft and laces. But throughout the show she has grown and changed her style.
Honestly I thought it was a great show until I realize how unfair the teaming and the judging are.
The teaming is very disorganized. (Some teams are BFFs, some teams are complete strangers/hate each other.) I would have been fine with it until I realize both of them have to be eliminated at the end-which is unfair.
The judges/guest judge is inconsistent. The second episode with the theme of global prints/patterns was great! A lot of teams brought their own country’s culture and it was interesting... until Angel&Minju and Ashton&Marco was judged.
Angels team made prints that were based on their home town, and Ashton made prints based on LA. These two teams(especially Angels) were really pushing their luck because none of their designs were heavily “global”.
The guest judge thought the first impression of Angels design was horrible, while Ashtons design was okay. But when he meets Angels team in person and hear their story, he does a 180. He changes his mind-which is a terrible idea. If you don’t like the design, don’t like it! No one is gonna explain every art piece and their significance. The artist have to give a message through the art. Not in person. The guest judge likes the story-and not the art.
And so during the final judge, when Angel’s team won, I was very disappointed. The judges specifically said global print patterns. Their print patterns was a HOMETOWN design. It’s not Chinese or Korean culture. It made the other contestants designs (Africa culture, Europe, etc) seem insignificant compared to the hometown design.
Then they announce the 2 teams in trouble. And one of them was Ashtons team. I was really confused with this because LA is more well known compared to Angels hometown, so they shouldn’t be criticized with the “global theme” shenanigans. But ooooh boiii. They said “LA is not a global print pattern”
Wtf is happening with the judges brains? Are they high?

Not to mention that the streetwear episode was complete BS.
They used their hometown as inspiration for their pattern, whereas Marco and Ashton basically made a ready to wear LA style outfit. I think they're looking for corture which is meant to encompass conceptual ideas that aim to inspire. I didnt love the clothes but I loved the concept, I didn't really get the same from the plaid though, just looked like pretty clothing.
I agree this comment the show is very entertaining has good presenters but the judging panel is very inconsistent and their opinions are very biased
Love this show. I prefer a competitive show where contestants are actually professional, in both their technique and attitude

The background music during the runway show is a tad bit overdramatic. It doesn't really go well with the overall mood of the show

Something is lacking, but I can't explain what it is, the main stage is impressive, but what I don't understand is Why they choose to put everything in the same room? and who! thought, it was a good Idea to have the same room as the working area, them move everything for the runway show, and then move everything again for the elimination, and why the Judges have to sand in a podium? is very awkward, prety much is an OCD nightmare

The contenders are great. Chung is genuinely warm and funny. Everything else is quick and forgetable.

Not sure why they thought it necessary to go all plus size females for the underwear challenge. Also, Kiki and Ferai was never going to be respected by the judges. I am enjoying the series despite some questionable moments.
