Being that the group was always setup with a lead and a 2nd lead, that relegated Latavia and Latoya to be backup( much like Kelly was prior to Ashley leaving). The rift came when Matthew took over management and used their positions in background to make them feel less important in the group as the group was taking off.
People can criticise them all day long but keep in mind that audition is what got them signed and the rest is history. Beyonce, Kelly, LeToya & TaTavia is how it started.

I think if Kelly’s talent would have been nurtured she could have been the lead. Beyoncé led all of the songs. She was given the chance to perfect her voice. The main ingredient for great singers is confidence. Kelly has the confidence now but think of where she could have been as a solo artist.

That's Letoya Luckett (the taller one who sang soprano) and Latavia Roberson (the shorter one who sang the low notes). You should check out Letoya's music as a solo artist, she's great!

Sad to say this, but i feel like once they landed the deal, Matthew made SURE to jump on Kelly's confidence and insecurities to bring her down a couple of notches and stay there so Bey could have a DEFINITE advantage (along with not showcasing Toya and Tavia pretty much AT ALL). Because this is one of the few live performances where Kelly's singing isn't off a little. That pisses me off cuz I LOVE me some Kelly and Toya!!! ❤

Kelly clearly had the better voice at the beginning of DC's career..however she was trained to compliment Beyonce's voice to create the sound of the group hence her always referring to herself as the second lead..However regardless of the outcome..Kelly Rowland is still very successful and an accomplished solo entertainer..They have all came a long way and are due much respect..not many artist can claim longevity in this music industry..ESPECIALLY after coming out of a group..lead singer or not

That's Letoya Luckett (the taller one who sang soprano) and Latavia Roberson (the shorter one who sang the low notes). You should check out Letoya's music as a solo artist, she's great!
