I think a lot of the current nhl masks are getting too abstract and too busy. I’d love to see guys go retro, e.g. habs price wear a mask with retro painting of ken Dryden paint job. Or bruins rask go with Cheever’s stitches. Heck while they’re at it take their lag pads, blocker and catcher back to brown leather, like flyers goalie did for outdoor game. Would love that.
I am working on doing my first helmet right now. (Actually on my second attempt of my first helmet) While doing my base coat, the layer of paint got very uneven in a lot of spots. What is the best way to get these layers of paint even again?
I made my own for this mask. Sometimes I will mask the factory logo but usually I sand them off and use a sealer on the entire mask before starting the artwork.
@@JayPlant Great thank you. I figured you created your own mask. Do you use a cricut to create the mask? i'd love to see a video of how you prepare the mask with vinyl sometime.
@@davestockmann I use a Roland GS24 cutter and create the stencils in Corel Draw. Nothing wrong with a Cricut though. Lots of people use them. I may make a video sometime. Good idea.
@@JayPlant Cool thanks. I'm just doing my own mask so something that large is just too pricey. Though it would be cool to have something like that. I'm going to do something like Jake Allens mask and I need to create a vinyl template for the boxes he has on the mask. Never done something like this before. What brand of vinyl did you use to make your stencils? I know on one you had some sort of stencil for the different card suits. I think that is something that I will need to use for my stencil. Thanks for all the help too by the way!
Practice. :) I started airbrushing when i was younger. Have been doing it for a living since 2005. There are many online resources that can get you started. I spent a lot of time learning from other artists as well as trial and error.
Jay Plant I checked out your web page and you have a great talent. I am an automotive painter and I have been watching a lot of videos on here for airbrushing and trying to take in as much info as I can. Im great with paper and pencil but its been a little tough getting use to the airbrush. Im a huge hockey fan so painting goalie masks is a side career I would really like to get into and thanks to your videos it is helping so thanks for taking your time out to make these.
I'm really impressed with how you vectored the goalies and was able to make a vinyl mask for each one. Very cool.
AWESOME work. I can watch these all day long!
Wow! That was absolutely incredible

Nice
Curious how you masked the "bauer" on the front of the mask. Did you mask the original manufacturer name or did you create your own?

@@davestockmann I use Avery White Paintmask. Something with a medium tack will work fine. Oracle also makes a paintmask.
how long did this take without time lapse?
